In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that sometimes we build things up in our mind. I like the way you make the closet sound very ominous without actually telling the reader what is in there. It does sound menacing and like something that would never be forgotten.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

The librarian sounds like the last person who should be around children. Unfortunately sometimes, this is exactly the sort that gravitates towards these sorts of professions. I have lived enough to know that all school personnel do not love kids.

Fine story and you made good use of the prompt words! Very original!

I am not an expert on poetry or prose or much else. I am certainly not an editor or proof reader, heaven forbid! I am merely a reader who loves to read and the judge for today in "The Writer's Cramp" . My goal is to encourage you to continue your writing adventures. You are the ultimate judge as to whether I have been successful in that endeavor.

*Cow* You sent me a very nice review recently as part of the Game of Thrones August Activity on the site. So, here I am to read and review in your portfolio. I wasn't sure if this was for the contest or not, but the title of it caught my attention. Sorry for the delay in my coming to review - I am slowly making my rounds this summer.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* A couple and a dog are stranded on a beautiful, tropical island. They make the best of things and have a great attitude. The people sort of learn from the dog, I think. A dog makes their own happiness each day as they treat it as an adventure.

These humans are quick studies and they manage to get interested in their environment and learn from their surroundings.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I loved how the movie crew's arrival is like an intrusion. I sensed that they might have been happier if they had not been rescued by the outside world. It seemed like such an idyllic environment for the short time it was theirs.

Lovely story! I am not sure this was written for the game or not, but I enjoyed reading it very much!

*Cow* I am visiting you today as you visited me recently with some very nice reviews that I appreciate and enjoyed reading very much!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* We are coming up on another sad anniversary. So many things would not have happened if not for what happened on that day. Many of us have losses that can be traced back to the reaction to that tragedy.

On this site, Bandit's Mama perished in one of the towers. She was a moderator at the time of her death and an early member when the site was called Stories.Com. If you look in her portfolio (I usually do it on 9/11) you will see that she had some things in there that are almost like premonitions of what was to come. I think she sensed that the end was near and was preparing for it in her way. She was a writer who loved saving cats and no threat to anyone. Just someone who worked hard, enjoyed writing and was going about her daily routine when the unthinkable happened.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part as it resonated strongly with me:

"Keep me strong,
Take me home;
as his life fades,
under the stone."

The lives faded, but the lights of their spirits did not.

Very brilliant and eloquent - a very fitting tribute to some of the tragedy that went on that day. Those of us who remember well, will never forget that day and its aftermath.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I am very sorry for your loss. I know that nothing I can say will help much, but he must have been very unique and special to have earned such a loving tribute from you. It takes a special person to wear the uniform and serve for so long with distinction and courage.

The fact that he is remembered with such devotion and love speaks volumes about his character.

Time goes on and the world moves on I think, but when someone is truly loved the feelings and memories are timeless.

It is humbling to think of the sacrifice and dedication to duty.

Again, I am very sorry for your devastating loss, but it is heartwarming to know that he was loved and appreciated in a way that transcends death and the way we measure time.

Starting the day early makes sense to me. He was a smart guy and I think that is a good policy.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

When you have a dog (like Miss Boo) you don't have much choice. She gets up and stretches and makes her presence known. If one of us doesn't come downstairs and see to things as soon as she wants, then she takes other measures and might even bark. She rarely barks unless she is in play mode. If a stranger comes in the neighborhood she barks and she used to scold the cat across the street when he would venture out of his yard because she was worried that he would go in the street.

I don't think that people with dogs can really sleep in much. Maybe he had some pups.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I like how you start with your protagonist, Kyle, embarking on his new life. The story is told mostly in flashback. The first person point of view is an effective technique for telling your story.

Kyle has had a rough go of it, worrying about his father. It seems that he is about due for some happy times when Josh and company do their best to put an end to his dreams, and even his life.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

As a reader I was rooting for Kyle to get the girl and maybe a little revenge. It seemed like this might be in the offing as the action begins and then picks up at the end.

Science fiction is not my favorite genre, but you had me interested and cheering for Kyle to emerge victorious.

I would recommend shorter chapters as I prefer that. Other people might not agree, but that is my personal preference. I enjoyed reading and thanks for the invitation to do so.

*Cow* I am reading in your nice Blog City Journal and sending reviews.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* That gift basket sounds lovely. I go to Bath and Body Works a lot. Well, they have nice stuff and that Cherry Blossom Fragrance is their best seller, ever. The clerk told me that when I bought it. I like their peach and lemon fragrances, also.

They used to have glycerin soap, but they don't carry that anymore. It's a shame because I really liked their soaps.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

Well, you cannot go wrong with a Barnes and Noble Gift Card. I give them to my niece and her husband for their birthdays and also, usually, to my friend Rich, who used to have a port here. Rich said he thinks a lot of Barnes and Nobles will be closing. I hope he is not right about the one near me. It is close to Bath and Body in the shopping center in my town. Either one would make this place a lot more boring to live in if they go.

I think Barnes and Nobel should sell a special book gift bag. They have those big ones (the green and other color ones with things written on them) but if they had a smaller bag, I would buy it for presents when I give people books.

They have better stores up in Maryland, but I do have my favorites here. I don't know if I told you, but the used book store in my city changed owners so now it is more of a ripoff. That seems to be the case with everything when things change.

Thanks for posting about your gift bag. It has given me some ideas for the holiday time gifts.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about living through and surviving difficult times. After each one, we think that we are stronger. Well, we may be, but I am not that sure about that anymore. Ernest Hemingway said something about life breaking us and then we are stronger at the broken places. But they are still broken, I reckon, just mended.

That quote is Taylor Swift's interpretation of another quote by Vivian Greene. Clever Taylor took it, changed it up a bit and made it her own, I guess.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* That quote makes me appreciate rain a little bit more for what it brings. Sometimes, I let rainy days get me down, but hard ones have been sunny also. Well, we roll with the punches life throws at us, I guess.

*Cow* You visited me recently for The Game of Thrones with a very nice review, so here I am reading and reviewing. I like this nice folder you have for your new poems and stories.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Is Bosco a larger alpaca? I wasn't sure if he was the same, only bigger. His description made me think, at first, that he might be a giraffe. I really felt for him being in a new place and feeling like he was frightened, but wanted to establish himself. That is a hard thing when a big group does not accept someone new.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like how Boris the Bull provided the wisdom of the ages for those in the pasture. A group is always better together, but it takes working well with individuals to have a good group. It seems that there are many welcoming hearts there to welcome Bosco.

This is a very nice story for children of all ages. Well done.

You have done a great job of covering all the memorable things that were tied to the commemoration of Jane Austen's life last month!

I agree with you that Darcy and Elizabeth are the most memorable characters. Someone probably got a bunch of people to vote there. I don't think that things would be done on the level they were without Darcy/Colin Firth's portrayal. This is 200 years, but did they do anything for 150 years or 175 years? No, but it was 1995 when Colin Firth played Darcy so just 22 years ago. So, now it is much larger than it was and it is because of that bringing it to the attention of so many generations of fans and readers. You are helping to do that, also, with your Newsletter, spreading the word about what is happening. We wouldn't have a way of knowing really otherwise.

*Cool**Idea* I hope that it goes well for you and you have a good experience with the game. I played in 2015 and the team I was on won. I think it is important to have fun and enjoy your time here. Even though I was on the winning team I didn't have fun for a number of reasons, probably mostly bad time management on my part. I don't think my stamina is good enough to work like I would have to if I were in it.

But it is good to write a lot and to have fun with the whole process.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think you are right. Our writing can take us wherever our imaginations want to go. You have visited lot of places and time periods.

You have opened up the world of Jane Austen for a lot of us here and opened some of our minds to more of Prince's music and songwriting efforts. I don't know if I would know any of what I know now without those wonderful activities of yours.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I think a big thing here now is to get back to the writing and maybe away a bit from the social stuff. I never felt like one of the popular people here, anyway, and the cliques have certainly driven that point home with me. It is nice to know that I have company in enjoying visiting other places and eras.

People can be not so nice here, but a lot of people are very nice kind like you. I appreciate that more than I can moo.

*Cow* I saw that you had added here, but I had read the latest so I went back a bit. This was probably written before you left the activity.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Canada looks real nice to me. I love a lot of Canadian shows like Murdoch Mysteries and some others. Their scenery looks amazing. I have never been there, but I know I would love it. I also watched that Love it or List it show that is mostly from Canada. Their houses look lovely.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

Everyone I ever knew who went to Canada loved it. They all say the people are amazing and so friendly and the scenery is beautiful. I have never heard anyone say a complaint about it that I can remember. Lots of great stars.

I laughed at your take on Justin Bieber. I agree, we can't hold The Bieber against them when we have that awful Kanye in the U.S. We all have our idiots, every country can say that.

*Cow* Your story was featured in this week's Comedy Newsletter, so I came to read and see what might be true or seem true. Congratulations on being selected to be in the Newsletter by Mr. Waltz! *Delight*

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Salem seems sort of like an opportunist, hanging around waiting for a finger. The tHiNG part of me cringed at that happenstance.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

Four walls are four walls. Well, you never know, I guess. But the phobias can be debilitating. I think that a cat can contribute to the atmospheric problems.

People and going out scare anyone with a lick of sense these days. But most people aren't in tune to what's going on, anyway.

The whole finger thing gives me the chills. Very creepy and nervously amusing (to me).

If it's real, it's scary and if it's not real, it's scary in a different way. Well, it's a great vocabulary that's being built here. We have to take Salem's word for a lot of things going on.

*Cool**Idea* Well, Jordan is a survivor. You have to be able to see the bright side in order to survive what life throws in your path, I believe.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like how in the end, Jordan is the one left standing. There is the jealousy angle to sort through, but people remember who won in the end I think, especially when it comes to controlling mob families. Not that I'm an expert or anything there.

*Cool**Idea* I thought this was hilarious. The father seems bent on seeing it through and I can understand his irritation.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

What a couple of knuckleheads. They brought back memories of my nephews. Well, it could go either way here I guess and be a comedy or a tragedy in the end. I think it is a tragedy for the TV that perished. LoL.

Young boys are so goofy and I think you have captured them well here! Being embarrassed in front of their peers will be an unforgettable lesson, if they survive it all.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This tree has seen a lot of literature and history come and go. The unfortunate thing is that humans never change, even through the changing times. They always assume that the world is revolving around them.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"But through it all, he knew sorrow for human being who neither live for summer or sleep in winter but destroy or are destroyed in every season."

"human being" should be the plural "human beings" here, but it is a minor typo easily fixed. The tree has a lot more wisdom than the humans. But giving way to their folly is what nature has to do over and over again.

I thought this was very moving and brilliant, with a lot of insight into the timeless thoughtlessness of humans.

Well done, indeed!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your story is one of intrigue when the CIA takes control, first of a man's mouth, then of everything he does. It is interesting that they give him the option to cooperate, knowing full well that he has no real choice in the matter once they took charge of him.

It is what the government does, I think. It tells us we have free will, then our choices are more and more limited until we are steered in the direction they want us to go. I think it is a subtle and very clever look at manipulation.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

My favorite part was that David resisted and was loyal to his wife. Why should he believe these mouth dominating entities, when he has only known them for a few minutes? Well, he has no real choice, but he does speak up in defense of his wife. I liked that he did that and didn't immediately fall into believing the government's program.

Very clever take on the prompt! Nice work!

*Cow* I saw that you had added this and the title drew me in to read the entry.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that you do a fine job of listing all the wonderful things that England has to offer. My youngest daughter and her family went there this summer. They had a really good time. They saw London and toured the Cotswolds area. I was disappointed that they didn't go to Jane Austen's place, but the boys weren't into it.

They did go to Stonehenge, however and did falconry somewhere. They loved working with the big birds.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I think you have taught us a lot about Jane Austen and you are still learning and teaching. After I watched the show, Midsomer Murders, on Netflix, it made me long to live in an English village. That part of the countryside just looks so inviting.

I still would pick Ireland, though, if given the choice. But you make a great case for England! *Heart*

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* They all were human after all and it took a teacher to show them that the connection was there. I like how Marcus tentatively joins in and everything makes it a little easier.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* My favorite character was Sanjay. He totally bridged that gap, didn't he and he saw things way beyond what might be expected in a situation like this. To me, Sanjay has the most to lose here and he finds his happiness in reaching out to others. I bet that doesn't happen often, but when it does, it can lead to some magical connections.

Wonderful storytelling! You take characters that might tend to put a reader off a bit and make them likable and even, at times, lovable. Bravo!

*Cow* I saw that this went to the top of my favorites. I see that you changed the title to reflect that you have a lot of varied writing in here. I change the title of my things when they evolve, too. I think that is smart move to make.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

It would be so different from anything that we know, wouldn't it? I am not sure how it would go. I have a feeling I would be devoured by a shark pretty quickly in this environment. Well, metaphorically speaking, there are sharks around everywhere, but there is maximum vulnerability in a new environment.

I think I would pass on that, too along with you, although the sea creatures will probably be around long after humans are extinct. I think it is the way of the world.

I don't have an older sister, but I do have a brother. He likes to solve all the problems of the world and lay them at my feet, too. Maybe it is a thing about older siblings, who knows.

The thing that got to me most was not leaving the kitchen table, but being an expert on all things. And that gift is always dangled out there like a carrot on a stick. Well, I know more people with this behavior pattern than just my brother.

I bet a lot of people will identify with it because they know people, but they won't see themselves in it. I'm mostly afraid to recognize myself in it. Don't know if that makes any sense, but I think this is a brilliant commentary on what is politically awry with a lot of the country, too.

It sounds like you did a lot of fun things this summer, but are sticking pretty close to home. That is my favorite type of summer. We went to Maryland in June, but if it were up to me we would stay close to home all the time. I would love to go to the beach, but not in summer. I like it when it gets colder. But I doubt if we will go because it is hard to leave Boo.

I hope your Dad is coming along with his recovery now. Sounds like a lot of fun things this summer to keep busy with.

*Cow* I gave the prompt earlier in the week in The Writer's Cramp. Although I was not the judge I was interested to see what you authors would do with my prompt from Poe's classic poem, The Raven.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* You have written of a time shrouded in mystery and ultimately surprise at an outcome beyond imagining. The rhyme flows very well and the mood goes hand in glove with the original poem's setting. I felt like I was transported.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I love it all, especially this part:

"It went quickly as it came,
Not a breath nor words to gain.
As the light drew from my eyes
I was in for a surprise."

We never know when our time will be upon us. It will take us all by surprise, I reckon.
