In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.
I'm good at...
encouraging others to write because I love to read.
I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* There is nothing slower than car repair. Well maybe government red tape is slower and you have both of those, which are pretty valid excuses to run into on the way to work.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part where you had to take the long way around:

"I pressed the pedal real quick
And leaned on the gear stick
But, to evade those green men
I took the long way, via route ten!"

They knew some things, but not enough to know the evasive routes. This is very creative and clever. I won't tell the others, the green guys.

Nice work!

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*You sent me a very nice review as a judge for the site contest. So, here I am with a humble offering of my own.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Waiting is the hardest part, sometimes, but it's also delicious when love is involved. You remember every detail and all the feelings of anticipation right up to the moment of spying one's own true love.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

Holding hands or a gentle kiss can convey so much caring, warmth and kindness when two souls become as one. I think sometimes the anticipation is what makes it all so memorable.

Well done!

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I saw that you had added and came to read. Thanks again for doing the campfire thing.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I don't think that hearts can ever be the same when they are broken. But maybe it is better and stronger to carry on.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I think it is about focusing on others. When we do that, we can carry on better. But it's when I feel sad for myself that I get in trouble.

I think forgive also, but never turn your back on someone who has acted up in the past. So, it's a learning thing there. When it is your own kids it is easier to forgive and even forget. Otherwise, it's tough.

Nice entry!

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I saw that you had added here, so here I am to read and review.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Which Danielle Steel book didn't you like? I saw you mention that one of her new books you didn't care for. I meant to ask and then I forgot, but it's been at the back of my mind. I think one of her earlier books (I think it was called Echoes) was sort of different. It is probably fun for her to try different things.

I tried the Horror genre with a couple of stories recently. I used to write Romantic Comedies, but I haven't done that in a while. I don't know why really.

Well, lots of reading can lead to a lot of writing.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I think it is good to watch and try new things. I have watched stuff now on Netflix that I never thought I'd be interested in. We are even watching Lost. I'm not sure I like it much, but I did like that show called Person of Interest a lot. So, that has me thinking about supernatural, which I never have written either.

Well, maybe science fiction, too. We never know.

Another famous author, Kristin Hannah, wrote a historical fiction book called, The Nightingale. It is one of the best books I ever read, but I think she is categorized as a Romance writer and they didn't give that book a chance. It was better than some that won the Pulitzer Prize in earlier years.

Oh well. Great entry, as always, Megan!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is very heartwarming. It made me think of my own eleven year old Basset Hound, Boo. She greets me when I come home every time and as a way far grown up person, it totally makes everything better!

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?
This was my favorte part:

"This canine
blessing was for
me a warm embrace;
it was a highlight of my
youth."

You repeat the word "through" in this same stanza but I wasn't sure if it was intentional. I thought I would mention it in case it is not.

Very endearing poem! Well done!

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You sent me a very nice review, so here I am to read and review your article about your experiences reviewing.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I hear you. You express yourself very well, in my opinion.

All I can say about negativity is that I have seen it. People have told me all sorts of things about how I should review.

It was a mistake for me to join some of these reviewing groups. It took a long time for me to do it (someone put me in her group actually) but about 2 years ago, I really plunged in. The manipulation and personality cliques really convinced me that I don't have what it takes. I don't want to be one of the popular crowd. No thanks.

But you know what?

I get reviews like yours and I feel good about things, like there are human beings out there.

I enjoyed reading about your experiences and feelings because I could relate to them.

I don't enjoy reading grammar lectures from those who fancy themselves experts. Sometimes they are right and sometimes it is someone making things up. I have seen that plenty. Because, over many years, I have seen some reviews that made me stop and stare (from people who held themselves in high regard) I know that most of the stuff that gets said here can be taken with a grain of salt -a whole of it if you want to know the truth.

I mean, really, do we think that these people would say these things about our writing if they were looking us in the eye. I don't believe that in most cases.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

You have come to know yourself better over the past decade. You know what you like to do. Tell your story and let those chips fall. It's an evolutionary process on this site to find what you like to do and have fun with it. The smartest people (in my opinion and what do I know really) on this site are the ones who love what they do here. They aren't the ones who have to delegate things that they hate to do or even the ones who seem like the popular kids, who have a lot of devotees doing things for them.

Figure out what you love to do here and structure everything so you can do it, enjoy it and forget about the peanut gallery.

That is my best and longest lasting advice to anyone. You will achieve great things if you turn your back on self-proclaimed experts here and elsewhere.

Very eloquent and honest article.

*Cow* I saw that you had updated, so I came to read and review.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* All the things sound good that you list. I agree about the President. I wish that people could get beyond their political bias hatred of whoever is president and hope for the best.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I liked your reading list a lot. A lot of those are on my list of what to read. I am way behind, but I have a lot of books here calling my name. Hopefully, in 2018, I will get with it and read more off line, too.

The kindle definitely gives me a lot of choices, as the nook does with you.

Well, we are lucky that we enjoy reading because if our eyes hold out we can always do that to entertain ourselves. I like to have my Boo here and I read and Mr. HOOves watches his Lost show now.

*Cool**Idea* I thought about all the things that you wrote. This is an excellent list.

Yes, your Bella and my Boo are precious gifts, aren't they?

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I liked the part about reading being something that relaxes. It definitely should be that. I am going to work on taking the pressure out of it in the future. Sometimes it seems like an overwhelming thing when it's something we commit to. I like doing it for pure enjoyment better than anything. I used to get paid for writing analytical type stuff.

It seems weird to judge things like the site contest and feel pressure when no one else does.

Oh well, that's on me I guess. You are right and it's important not to lose track of reading for enjoyment.

Great list, Megan!

I would love to see the cats juggling the pumpkins. That sounds like a great idea for a Halloween party! You did a fine job with your poem.

*Cool**Idea*

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part as it was so whimsical and I could picture it all:

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I gave the prompt for this earlier in the week in "The Writer's CrampOpen in new Window.. I wasn't the judge, but I like to read what the writers do with my prompts. I read this when I gave you the merit badge, but I didn't send a review. I don't remember why that was, but I'm here now so whatever.

The title was foreordained, I guess you could say since I chose it. It adds an element of mystery to the proceedings.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

I like the way you tie the Reynolds thing into Rosebud. It's such a similar message to the audience. Well, Orson Wells and Mr. Poe are nothing, if not mysterious. Cryptic fellows.

*Cool**Idea*

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I like the humor in this, especially. It's not like it really matters, but it's sort of fun to think about it. I guess it might have mattered to Mr. Poe, if he really did say it. Your puns are very funny.

I like what you did with the prompt! Nice work!

*Hand2**Balloons*

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I saw this reviewed on the public reviewing page and came to read because it sounded hilarious. I was not disappointed.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The title (in addition to the stellar review) really hooked me in to read. It made me snort, actually. What's death between loved ones, anyway?

Well, the mother surely wasn't missed, was she? Seems like she drove everyone more nuts than a tricky ghost ever could. Compulsive nitpicking is a bit tedious over time.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I liked the ending about the banshee and the parts about Granddad trying to mow. He sounds like a very helpful spirit.

Well done- this was very funny and the humor was tongue in cheek. We should all have such a helpful spirit around the house. I hope to haunt my loved ones in fine fashion some day!

Brilliant!

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I like the easy banter between the boss and his assistant. I know he's not really her boss in her eyes, but it's very engaging that she is the one who knows best. The dialogue was witty and realistic and read naturally between the two.

*Cow* I am the judge for today in "The Writer's CrampOpen in new Window.. Thanks for entering!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your free verse poem explores a relationship between son and mother that is all together too close for comfort. When mother holds control this tightly, it does not bode well for the future.

Then, if another woman comes into the picture, look out then. Yikes.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This part stuck with me:

"Oh, another message from Mom
as if my ears are the viaducts
for her every whim and whisper,"

Then there are the boys that Moms adore, but who don't pay much attention to mother. They give her lip service. So, that son is the favorite. That's a very interesting phenomenon because I've never known a mother to favor a child that she can control. There is always tension there.

Very fine take on the prompt! Well done!

*Cow* I saw you had added and came to read. Also, you sent me two nice reviews.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* What is the show? It sounds like one called Heartland that Mr. HOOves told me about. I think it's Canadian. Well, I'm not sure. The setting sounds nice and, of course, horses are always lovely.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

That thing about charitable stuff really hit home. My issue is that some charities take a big administrative bite out of the funds being raised. When people help people or animals directly that's the best way to go.

My niece in Houston. Well, part of her house (the floor) was destroyed. She was pretty traumatized and is a survivor of Hurricane Harvey. Millions of dollars have been collected for victims. She has seen 0 of that. Some people I knew who were in Katrina never got help except from their families. Well, a lot of money is collected. I go to the grocery store checkout and they said do I want to donate to Hurricane Harvey victims and I say I already am.

But none of the moola they collect like that gets to the people who really need it. Then those celebrity telethon things. The celebrities never follow through on seeing where the money goes.

Fund raising is big business now and there is profiteering going on. I don't know what the answer is other than find someone you know and help them personally. With animals we all start by being kind to those around us. In that case, charity truly begins at home. *Heart*

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Megan, this is a great list. I can tell you put a lot of thought into it. A lot of our stuff is the same. We have a lot in common, but would not have met without the Internet.

I still talk to the Opal Twins away from here. You and they are friends I would not have without this site. That is a good thing to remember.

When I go to Barnes and Noble I don't go in the cafe. They keep giving me coupons for coffee drinks so I'm thinking about it. I don't know about yours, but our cafe part is elevated and dark looking. I am afraid I might fall on the stairs, but I might do it sometime. Sounds like the snack cakes are delicious!

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I liked #11, especially, and the reminder about being able to post our own stuff when we want to. I wrote on a Fan Fiction site before this where we had to wait months for our work to be posted. We would email it to the Site Administrator and she would edit it and it would be a long time. That's why coming here was so fun. People had to convince me to come here (they were young girls that did that) but I have always been glad I did, even when times got hard.

There are always positive things and friends here to have fun with. I treasure our friendship especially. *Heart*

*Cow*I saw your poem featured in this week's Poetry Newsletter and came to read. Congratulations on being featured in the Newsletter! And welcome to the site!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that this proves you don't have to have a lot of words to say something quite profound.

Time is relentless and unforgiving. It's passage is the one thing that we can count on absolutely in life.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"Even now, it moves ever onward,
Not pausing once for friend or foe.
End - of time, that is - is nowhere in sight.
Not for us mortals, at least."

And it tells us all we need to know if we only are patient and attentive.

*Cool**Idea* The idea of going back in time and meeting with Jane Austen's beloved characters is brilliant.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I would always go back there and remember if that happened to me. It is like you get the inspiration here from actually talking to the people who inspired Jane Austen. What if they really did look like the actors who portrayed them. Plus, they are in a setting you know personally and their house has been moved there.

That is wonderful and imaginative to think of that. Very fine work with the prompt for your Blog, Megan! *Heart*

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I gave the prompt for this earlier in the week in The Writer's Cramp. I was not the judge, but I wanted to see what you writers would do with my prompt. So, here I am to read and send a review.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

This wonderful poem is about something that is meant to be. The title is very engaging, as are all the words. We are all part and substance of the universe. Referring to Carl Sagan, it is written in the stars.

*Cool**Idea*

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"So this
calls to us, in a way, this lure of heavens
so vast, this invitation to come back
to our Cosmic home."

There is something very comforting about thinking about life and its inevitable conclusion this way. It is accepting what cannot be changed and even welcoming what the future holds in store.

Very moving free verse style poem!

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I gave the prompt last week for this in The Writer's Cramp. I was not the judge, but was interested to see what you writers would do with my prompt.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The poem flows very well and tells the tale of the confusion we all felt all those years ago.

On this site, Bandit's Mama Author Icon was killed in one of the Twin Towers. She wrote a lot about love and understanding, along with a premonition of what was to come. I think she would (if she could speak to us now) agree with trying to find our way back to the love and kindness that make some kind of sense.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This stuck with me:

"Yet for the most part we both vowed to fight the cause for love,
to advocate reality and curb faith’s feeble shove.
With minds so lost there is the stench of bigotry and hate,
as seen by such religious fervor on that fateful date."

When we look to trying to find love and common ground with others, we honor the memories of those who died that day and since.

Profoundly moving poetry. Well done!

*Cow* I saw that you had added here, so here I am to read and send a review.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I do not enjoy flying either.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I have not found a way to enjoy flying. I hope I never have to do it again. Well, if I want to go to Ireland I would have to fly. We have had some of the roughest flights going there. But it was worth it to see the beautiful green country. I think about cows in a meadow and watch the travel video that they show toward the end of the flight. It takes about 6 hours going and a little longer coming back.

I will never like flying. I took a flying lesson once in Maine and my instructor said I turned green. I thought if I did it, it might take the fear away as I used to travel a lot with my job. Nothing ever helped me not to be afraid. My mother would picture the clouds and look at them, but I am always scared to death. Mr. HOOves falls asleep before takeoff and is so relaxed. Totally different approach to the whole thing. He's never one to admit to being fearful in any situation.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I like how your poem invites me, as a reader, along for the ride. It is a unique car that is a joy to just ride in and not be worrying about what you are trying to get to. I guess in that way, it is a joyous reminder of all that life can be.

Your couplets are engaging and the rhyme flows well.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite section:

Oh, Hyundai Pie, I am auto-delighted,
I am very excited, to have you here with me.
Oh, Hyundai Pie, your black body does glisten,
and I give you a listen, when we zoom down the road.

It all reminded me of a car I loved and that was very reliable for me for a lot of years of long distance commuting through the mountains of Virginia. I felt like I was cruising along with you and Hyundai Pie.

Very nicely done!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think that Dad had a lot of respect for mom running it by her and she was very sensible in her response. She didn't say, what are you nuts or anything like that. She just pointed out an example where naming it The Bathtub might cause difficulties. I wonder if he was serious with that or just testing to see what her reaction might be. It was a very gentle push away from the idea of the first name. Very diplomatic also.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I am glad Dad had a lovely name for you. It made me wonder, though, what did he end up naming that car? Did he win? I know that it's not the important point, but I was curious about it.

*Cow*I am the judge for today in "The Writer's CrampOpen in new Window.. Thanks for entering!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about how sometimes we get caught up in something that is bigger than oneself. It is even bigger than a romance or a pairing of two like-minded souls. In the end of your fine poem, they are both lost, as the title indicates.

I thought this was very powerful and the rhyme just at the end of both stanza's is very effective and moving to me. It all was, really.

At the end of something there can be the choice or the inevitability of not seeing someone again. Either way, that is a profound challenge to live with such an outcome.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

It was all wonderful, but this was the part that moved me most:

"She would hum him tunes
of her childhood.
He would sing back the tales of youth.
And despite the destruction they lived through
they knew what they longed for was truth."

Oh that truth, eh? Maybe they long for that which will hurt the most when it is seen, realized or recognized.

Brilliant poetry, start to finish. It could apply to most any doomed relationship in a number of instances.

Wonderful!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about how Sally could choose a couple of paths here. She could choose to be irritated or to put it aside and be friendly and treat it as an amusing anecdote for future reflection.

She chooses the latter, only to have things take a turn for the serious.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

One never knows when someone being difficult conceals a much more serious problem than just cantankerousness.

This was my favorite part:

“Oh it’s fine, It Be Okay, that’s one way
to allay any tongue slips made today.”
Just then, It Be Okay began to sway,
asked for a chair and Sally said, “Okay.”

She chose kindness over disdain and was the better for it. She never saw him again, as the prompt indicates, but she was kind. That counts for something, I think, the effort to be kind when there is an easier and simpler choice.

Well done!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I like how the names of your characters are never revealed. It makes his gesture of sacrificing himself for her safety all the more noble. It goes without taking credit for things - he does it for her sake not for his.

The man, in this piece, gives up everything for the woman he loves, but yet feels as if he failed her. He could only do what he could do, after all and sacrificing one's life is a big thing to do for someone.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I like that the future unfolds for her in the sense that this person did all this for her, expecting nothing in return. Indeed he even apologizes for not doing more. She has her whole life in front of her to do something in his memory.

Very moving and poignant story. Well told!
