In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

I will not review...

something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What does HOOves think about and contemplate while perusing your item?

Wow, this is a bad situation. Recently I had a time of light-headedness where I was pretty disoriented and scared. That helped me to identify with the panic anyone in this situation would feel. My episode happened in April, too.

I like how you sort of switch point of view in this from third person to Andre and perhaps becoming Andre. It fit well with the predicament he finds himself in.

What does HOOves applaud and moo about while reading your item?

This part really hit home:

"I could describe the horror in pedantic detail, I could, I'm less concerned with entertaining you I'm speaking to the lost soul."

I think you have done a fine job with creatively dealing with the prompt and conveying the sense of panic such a change in perception would bring.

What I Thought About As I Perused Your Item and Readjusted My Nose Ring

We never get relief unless we can turn it over to God. I think that prayer is the saving grace of us all. When I can pray and let God help me with things, it almost always gets better, even if it is little by little.

I like the way you open and close with the very moving line.

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

This was my favorite passage:

"Our time is so short; it must be addressed -
In God’s great hands our souls do rest."

There is a soothing comfort to leaving it to the big guy.

Beautiful poetry!

I married a cowboy from Texas, myself. I understand the attraction very well.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part was moving:

"I couldn't wait to grow up
to have my own horses.
Married myself a cowboy"

I am watching the old movies from 1939 and in the process of doing that, watched Stage Coach and then Destry Rides Again. Lots of action and adventure in the old west.

I am reading your fine poem as you posted before I did in the I Write in 2018 activity!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

We all take that final journey that you write so eloquently of. Last evening, I had a glimpse into the abyss as a tornado touched down about 2 miles from where I was. Better get my act together here is the message I got.

Well, your rhyme flows very well and I found it very effective that you sick mostly to eight (once in a while, 9) syllables.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite passage:

"The ferryman continues on,
his eyes ablaze within his face
for he awaits a coming dawn
whose light will never see this place."

Very haunting and gives one pause to examine what has gone on before. Today and going forward it makes me want to do better.

Brilliant poem with what seems like effortless rhyme, but I know that a lot of work went into this to make it look effortless.

I love the tone of this. The formal thrashing, as it were. It reminds me of Jane Austen, but with a modern weather twist.

That part about Jack Frost on his drunken rampage and the awkward meeting after saying the mutual goodbyes was hilarious.

I think this is a fine cease and desist letter to Winter. It is high time that and well overdue.

I am reading for the I Write in 2018 Activity and you posted in the forum right before I did!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

This is a lovely, romantic poem about being held by the force of caring and emotion.

I also thought that it could be applied to what some of us see as the life waiting beyond this one, so it took on another aspect as a confirmation of faith.

We all know we will get there one day if we make the right choices and just hold on to that belief system that we were taught as little ones.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

The poem is short and direct, but the language is poetic and the imagery is vivid and well presented.

This was my favorite part:

"We leave the confines
of this lovely place to float
in rapture amongst the stars."

I think that is very memorable and it proves that you don't need a lot of words to say a lot to your readers.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I could understand Shimmy's frustration. Roscoe reminded me a lot of my Basset hound, Boo. She likes to sniff every inch of ground and explore. She is not too aware of the weather while she does it or anything really besides where her nose takes her.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I was glad they were united at the end in their mission to get out of the weather. Fear, once absorbed, has a way of focusing the senses. I have a feeling my Boo would still be sniffing so good for Roscoe in heeding the wake-up call of the wild weather.

I loved that "Attitude of Gratitude" We should all work on having that more, especially those of us lucky enough to live in this amazing and varied country!

This was my favorite part:

"My attitude is gratitude,
I whisper a prayer of thanksgiving
as I snatch
a quiet moment
before the beginning
of a hectic day."

That small chocolate cupcake sounds pretty yummy, also. We live in a digital world now, no doubt, but it's still good to stop for moments of sincere thanksgiving, and not on the day designated for that.

You sent me a very nice review, so here I am moseying over to read and review in your fine Daily Poem Contest Book.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I think (as you so wisely say, yourself) that there are no rules with Free Verse.

To me, this poem is trying to distinguish between every day noise and what is real. Sometimes we have to get away, and sometimes we can just do it in our heads. There is way too much noise and communication going on in the modern world.

So, to sail away is something that is inviting and even healthy at times. The storm can be a literal one or one of our own making, I reckon. To me, it's a metaphor for all the nonsense that we hear on a daily basis.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"[Silence]
like the eye of the storm.
A perfect moment where I exist"

It is hard to know what is real and what isn't these days. Hold on to the bits and pieces of the natural world is my best advice.

What I Thought About As I Perused Your Item and Readjusted My Nose Ring

My thinking is that this sort does not get much, but they do get off on the power that sending their thoughts creates in their own minds.

The best revenge will be when you are successful and can write about their antics in your memoirs.

Everyone has their critics. Even Poe was hated by jealous contemporaries. Think of that and how highly regarded he is today. Those nay sayers who thought his writing was rubbish, well they are the forgotten ones, aren't they?

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

This was my favorite part:

"Perhaps their day isn’t going well,
but they take it out on you.
The work that took you so much time
is shredded through and through."

I always wonder if their meds make them do it, or their mommy was mean or whatever. Who really knows.
I wrote the best thing I was capable of and someone (who should have behaved better because she knew how to) trashed it to ribbons. Why? Maybe because of closely held prejudices that had nothing to do with the actual story or me.

I wrote about antisemitism and it's entirely possible that an antisemite reviewed me. That is where I came out in the end. What can you do with that? Not much directly.

Well, you can write excellent poetry about how much damage this sort can do, can't you?

Why I Meandered Into Your Port to Read Your Item

I clicked on Read and Review on the left hand side of the screen and it took me to your chilling tale.

What I Thought About As I Perused Your Item and Readjusted My Nose Ring

I thought about how Kate is unsure of herself and Alex has no confidence in her. The medication is causing hallucinations so maybe she needs a new doctor who will prescribe different medication. To imagine this devouring is horrible and frightening. The telling of the story from Kate's first person point of view is chilling and definitely gives it a slant that is frightening and believable.

Technically, I saw one small typo - the third word of the second sentence should be "says" instead of "say."

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

I liked Alex's measured concern for her. There is an element of self-preservation in Alex's demeanor and words, so much so that he will never allow himself to be devoured in such a way - emotionally, mentally and in the fantasy, physically.

So, there is strength there and also in her insistence that she be allowed to check out what is wrong. If the bolded words were the prompt, you did an admirable job with crafting the story around it.

I totally agree that Hillary is not right for the job there. I think she thinks she is entitled to it or something. She never stood up for anything important in all of her life as a politician and First Lady. It is all about the power with her.

I thought she was better than Obama, but I just cannot see her as President. It's like the whole vision of that seems very wrong somehow.

Good thoughts! It will have to be a younger woman from the up and coming generation, not someone born in the 1940s again. I think those days are gone.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I think that animals are all about determination and sticking to whatever needs to be accomplished. As you indicate, humans could really learn a lot from observing and emulating the behavior or animals.

But, most humans are not quick to realize this important lesson in life and behavior.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"In the sunny, tranquil, yet deadly world of day,
And the dark, sleepy, and godless night,"

Maybe it is because humans are much more sheltered than animals and therefore do not need to learn the same things to survive. Maybe that is the reason that humans fail to stick to it and keep going with things.

Well, it's a great lesson to learn.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I was wondering about your part and the details surrounding the performance, after the fact. This is written before it happened, so I was curious to see how everything turned out with it. Sounds like a wonderful event for the holidays and I am sure the ballet was memorable.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like the idea of dancing to that story. The ghosts of Christmas past, present and future dancing is something to see, I reckon.

I'll bet everyone involved had a great time with it all! Maybe you could update this sometime with a postscript.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

We all have our faith that we hold on to. Some base it on what their parents believed and some follow their own path. The story that culminates in Easter is a sad and moving one, to be sure. The suffering that he took on freely. Well, there is very little love or even devotion that approaches that for ordinary folk.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part sticks with me:

"And of the THREE,
This task must fall to ME.
For, this ONE must give all
That all may receive forgiveness,
If they are willing to accept it."

Very inspirational, humbling and appropriate poem to read as we come up to the holiday time for us Christians who do believe.

I find your poem to be moving, profound and well written.

I love the title as it expresses the sadness and loss.

Personifying one's pen as the ultimate muse is brilliant. I have so many pens all over the place, and confess I have never had a special one that I could go to for inspiration.

This is a loving relationship and it is sad when it is seemingly over. I felt sad and sorry for the loss.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part, but I thought the whole poem was written from the heart and with a sense of profound regret:

"farewell, my lucky pen, my cylindrical muse. You have ceased to be."

Condolences on the loss of such a wonderful writing companion! I don't think I will ever look at my pens the same way and will be in search of a special one to hold on to.

What I Thought About As I Perused Your Item and Readjusted My Nose Ring

Travel always helped me to find ideas to write, too. But we aren't doing much of it now. We went on a little trip in December, but not even out of the State, so not far.

But stayed overnight. I enjoyed the cable TV in the hotel.

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

I liked hearing how going to St. Augustine gave you the idea to write that. Very cool!

I saw you had added and came to read and review.

What I Thought About As I Perused Your Item and Readjusted My Nose Ring

Baby animals are all so sweet. Lambs go in the road in Ireland. You have to wait for them to move and cows, too. Sometimes, they take their time. They mark them with a color sometimes. But it is beautiful and green where they roam.

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

I used to love to go to the National Zoo and watch the baby panda interact with its parents. They were all so cute. When it was born the baby panda was no larger than a stick of butter. Well, they grow to be very big, but they are adorable to watch.

The National Zoo takes good care of them so I loved to go there. The giraffes were across from the Pandas, who got most of the attention. Giraffes are sweet, too.

Why I Meandered Into Your Port to Read Your Item

You sent me a nice review, so here I am to read and review your flash fiction story.

What I Thought About As I Perused Your Item and Readjusted My Nose Ring

At first read, I was thinking what a pushy neighbor. I have one like this now. So, the word "no" is something I like to introduce this sort to. But Grace went beyond pushy to another level.

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

The ending was a surprise, but I was thinking she was just a demanding nut at first. Who does that to their neighbor - demands anything. Not to say that I don't have a couple of neighbors who are on the edge, but I guess that is life in the 21st Century. All the medications floating around and who knows what the behavior will be.

I think you did a fine job with your Flash Fiction Story, of building the reader's suspense, leading to a surprise ending.
