In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.
I'm good at...
encouraging others to write because I love to read.
I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I am the judge for today in "The Writer's Cramp. Thanks for entering!

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your story is an engaging one with a perfect title. I felt like I knew Emma and maybe even saw some of myself in her if I am honest, which I am not. LoL. What, me? Hypochondriac?

Never!

This was entertaining and I felt like I knew the characters by the time I got to the end.

I saw one minor typo in this sentence: "Seems Emma had forgotten he cotton balls, " "he" should be "her" *Checkr*

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

You did a great job with the prompt and with opening and closing with Emma, herself. Through others we come to know her, but even though she has this idiosyncratic behavior, she's lovable.

Well done!

What brought tHiNg meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I am the judge for today in "The Writer's Cramp. Thanks for entering!

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought the title was intriguing. My first instinct is disappear in a crowd or just maybe live one's life without being a blowhard.

It's interesting and I am not sure that I get it, but I think I do.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

I thought it was all brilliant advice, especially:

"Wear the first ring you bought for yourself.
Amble, and twist, and make a wish.
Follow a stream till it ends in the woods."

Honestly, it is brief, but unforgettable and that is a pretty fine thing to be in my books.

Bravo!

I am not an expert on poetry or prose or much else. I am certainly not an editor or proof reader, heaven forbid! I am merely a reader who loves to read and the judge for today in "The Writer's Cramp. I look at a review as my personal and unique reaction to what I have read and a sharing of what I bring to the table on any given day. Sometimes I don't bring much, but I enjoy my reading adventures either way.

My goal is to encourage you to continue your writing adventures. You are the ultimate judge as to whether I have been successful in that endeavor.

Either way, I enjoyed my visit with you immensely.

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I gave the prompt a couple of weeks ago in The Writer's Cramp. Although I was not the judge, I wanted to come back and read what you wonderful writers have done with my prompt.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think you have captured the devastation of this thing that humans call progress.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was the part that stays with me:

"Helped along by terrible machines,
Driven on by ghastly fiends,
Now we see them all around us
Living nightmares that confound us."

When you see it going on and live with it every day, it really hits home what is happening.

Well done!

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I gave the prompt for this a few weeks ago in The Writer's Cramp. I was interested to see what you writers would do with my prompt. I was not the judge for it.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think you have captured the sadness and feeling of loss that I imagine all woodland animals feel when the equipment comes and the trees fall.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I think that it is hard to imagine until you see it happening. Once it all starts, it is too late to do anything. I often wonder who the people operating the equipment can ignore what is right in front of them.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I liked that the fox helped them even though she was reluctant and didn't want to be bothered. She still brokered a good outcome for the mice. You built up the suspense very well and I felt empathy for the rodents. I don't usually like rodents, so you did a fine job there.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think you have captured all the sights, sounds and feelings very well. Sometimes humans don't even really get the feelings of other humans about this, much less the deer and the bears.

I thought the bear being philosophical and pragmatic about it all was heart breaking.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

You did a fine job of relaying the day to day experience as things begin to fall and disappear and the feelings of the animals in response to human folly.

*Cow* I came to read because I saw that you had added to your Journal! I was drawn to this entry. You are braver than I am to face those holiday shoppers late on Thanksgiving Day and then early on Black Friday.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Was it a mob scene? It sounds like you really made the rounds and got a lot of good stuff. The Kohl's here has been a madhouse in years past. This year all I did was go to a Food Lion to get a Frozen Turkey for Christmas. They have a kind that I like a lot and it was on sale, but I had to fight to get the sale price.

That was the only place I went to on Black Friday.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

It sounds like you got a lot of nice stuff and your husband is good to go with. I told my husband about it and he said it's a good idea, I can spend $10 on myself and $25 on him. LoL

Hope you are happy with the Jane Austen book.

Sounds like a nice Christmas season has begun. *Heart**Heartg*

*Cow* I think I saw it in the Newsfeed! I love movies, although the ones I love are pretty old.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Well, RAOK and Shadows and Light are awesome. Lately, I am more judicious and actually look at the recipients. I am familiar with the good work of both, here. *Heartg**Heart*

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I guess it would have to be RAOK again after all this time. I knew the founder of RAOK when she founded it as a spin off of Pay It Forward. Gosh, that is so long ago that I may have to grab my cane and make my way to my rocking chair in the corner here. It is a long time ago.

One of the greatest supporters of the RAOK and PIF passed away five years ago this week. He would have LOVED seeing that RAOK lives on. He used to drink a lot of Moxie, did my friend, Maynard.

These are so beautiful! They actually bring a tear to my eyes. My parents have a lot of stuff of this era that I have and it brings back some nice and good memories of this time of year. This is a lovely, vintage collection that you have put together.

What brought me here today?

I am reviewing your poem as a judge for "Journey Through Genres: Official Contest. Thanks for entering!

What occurs to me as I read your poem?

*Thumbsup* My, what a determined title you have!

Your limerick flows along very well. I hear you and I feel what you are saying. You have reached out to me. Many have judged me over time and found me lacking. I still see those prize points dangling at times. Dimmer as the years go by. *Laugh*

This part especially moved me:

"That isn't clever by half?
Makes you want to barf?
What do I do?
Cows go MOO
When calling to their calf."

It is very important to know your audience. LoL This made me laugh, which is the point of comedic poetry.

I got a kick out of it. Consider me to be chuckling and giggling over here. *Laugh*

I am reviewing your poem as a judge for "Journey Through Genres: Official Contest. Thanks for entering!

What occurs to me as I read your poem?

*Thumbsup* Well, it all seems like a bit of a bad dream, doesn't it? Just think a year ago the news media reported that Hillary had it in the bag.

This was very funny. My favorite parts were the parts about the hair, such as:

"Don stroked the toupée lovingly.
'This is an awesome gift.
But what's the Lord need from me now?
I'm sure He'll want it swift.'"

It is also quite an alarming thing. Well, funny and alarming. I think that the Congress is worse in not being prepared to do anything. It's like the shock of him winning propelled them into a freeze frame.

I love the consistency in your syllable count, alternating between eight and six syllables. It flowed along so well.

Very fine work, indeed! Makes me shiver a bit, though! *Laugh*

What brought me here today?

Wait. It will come to me. It was long ago and far away in a galaxy familiar, yet strange.

I am reviewing your poem as a judge for "Journey Through Genres: Official Contest. Thanks for entering!

What occurs to me as I read your poem?

*Thumbsup* It's a crazy world now isn't it?

I refuse to engage in those phones people are so crazy for, so I definitely hear you there.

The rhyme is flawless and it flows very well. I was laughing all the way which is sort of the point of comedic poetry. At least I think it is.

You had a lot of aha moments for me with the cell phone, but this was my favorite part:

"My T.V. tells me what to see;
it recommends new shows
based on my viewing history.
It doesn't know I doze."

We got rid of the cable 2 1/2 years ago and I haven't missed it one single day. When we travel we have it at the kids' house and hotels. It makes me very anxious.

Here, we both doze to Netflix and it has that thing asking you if you are still alert. That is funny because it makes us irritated, but frequently we do fall asleep to what we are watching. He falls asleep, then wakes up and turns it to his show, then falls asleep, I wake up and put it on my show and we each demand to know why it is where it is.

That's what we call entertainment here in my barn! *Laugh* I thought this was a riot. Well done!

Sorry this was so long in coming. I had my results in so long ago that I think my reviews are stale, but having done this more than a month ago, I will let it stand, I guess. You would probably be the least upset (today) by the delay. *Bigsmile*

What brought me here today?

I am reviewing your poem as a judge for "Journey Through Genres: Official Contest ~ Thanks for entering!

What occurs to me as I read your poem?

*Thumbsup* These are a lot of sayings that we are told or taught over the years of ourlives. You bring them into humorous question. I particularly enjoy the alliteration at times. Your rhyme flows very well and your words are well chosen.

This part was my favorite:

"A penny saved is penny earned,"
said Ben in voice quite Franklin.
But "penny saved" from what I've learned
is penny we can't spend then."

This tickled me as I've never been much of a saver until rather late in life. I couldn't see the point to it. Now, I do. LoL

Nice work for the contest!

What brought me here today?

I am reviewing your poem as a judge for "Journey Through Genres: Official Contest. Thanks for entering!

What occurs to me as I read your poem?

*Thumbsup* I could readily identify with your sentiment here. Age has surely caught up with me and passed me many times as it circles back.

Unfortunately, you have edited your poem after the deadline, but I wanted to send reviews to all the entries I can access.

Life and age play some cruel tricks on us at times, but it is also pretty funny when you stop and think about it.

This was my favorite part:

"perfected balances and weight
that dictate time’s display.
As passing decades escalate,
my youth just slips away."

My youth slipped away, but there is still a lot of humor left. Probably due to Irish ancestry and living with someone funny.

This tickled me a lot and I enjoyed reading it. Your title engaged me from the start as I said "Oh yeah?" out loud immediately upon reading it.

You wrote a fine poem. Well done.

I am reviewing your poem as a judge for "Journey Through Genres: Official Contest. Thanks for entering!

What occurs to me as I read your poem?

*Thumbsup* I thought this was a delight from start to finish. Any one who has been frustrated in planning or executing a plot will be able to identify.

The only thing is that the rules of the contest required that you state the form.

Well, anyway the title is very amusing and I could picture those bunnies preparing for the onslaught. I picture them as small so their ferociousness and determination is very amusing.

This was my favorite part:

"oh, plot bunnies—oh why? oh why!
why won’t your tricksy decoys die?
I never learn. I always try.
why do I follow you?"

We always have to follow them down that rabbit hole (for me anyway) don't we? Lovely poem that I enjoyed reading very much!

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You invited me to come and read and send a review, so here I am. Thank you for the invitation, amy-Has a great future ahead !

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think this is a very informative and clear article about finding a source of peace and strength to reinforce your writing endeavors. We have all found that to different degrees on this site or we wouldn't be here I believe.

I noticed that in the first paragraph you have:

"They are their to bounce ideas off of. "

The word "their" should be "there" in this context. I would change that whole sentence to read:

"They are there to bounce ideas off of each other."

Then, in the last sentence, you left the "e" off the end in "peace." These are minor corrections, easily made.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I enjoyed reading this very much and learning how important Writing.Com is to your writing endeavors. Thanks again for inviting me to read!

A YaHOO Review from tHiNg!!!

*Hand2**Balloons*

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You sent me a nice review recently, so here I am.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I noticed the transformation from sort of being a victim to taking charge. So, if you(the speaker) go, it is your choice. The being comes and threatens, but ultimately you make up your mind whether to go or not.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I liked that shift to taking charge and making a choice at the end. The description sounds like a creepy visitor to have, but if you don't let it creep you out too much, I guess the journey could be an interesting one. It is definitely not how I picture the angels coming for me, though.

I think I would ask for some identification before going with.

Very chilling and spine tingling! Being without sleep is the pits.

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You sent me a nice review recently, so here I am to read and review. Sorry for the delay - I have been a bit under the weather with an ear infection and I get dizzy when I try to read for very long or sit up. It's better now.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is about Game of Thrones with the Dragons, but it is a powerful metaphor for war and the experience of being in combat. I think you capture the sights and sounds very effectively. The title is perfect. It made me think of the battlefield at Gettysburg, actually.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite passage:

"The die is cast.
Flames on the ground;
devastation all around.
Thunder, Thunder in the Hills."

I thought it was a brilliant and moving poem, especially during Veteran's Day week. Thank you so much for all of your service! *Heartt*

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You had sent me an invitation to come and read.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Oh, Megan, I am so sorry for your loss of Tigger. Your port is named in honor of her. She was so beloved, was your kitty cat. I know that you gave her the best life that any kitty could hope for.

You took great joy in her sense of fun and adventure and you loved her all the days you were together. That is pretty awesome to think about and you were with her right up to the end, willing to do whatever it took to make her life easier as her health failed.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

This part stays with me:

"You would hide under the dining room table to attack me and I
would laugh when you ran through the bathroom and down the
hall. You were a Nascar Driver and you never hit the wall. You
were Kasey Kayne or Ryan Newman. I miss you still, baby girl. "

It sound like you and Ray truly gave her a wonderful life. I am so sorry she is gone now. *Heartp*

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Your story type poem was very intriguing and you did a good and imaginative job with the prompt.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

I particularly enjoyed the notion that these two landed in Scotland and went on to the Shipyards of Belfast. I only know of them from the Paul Newman/Robert Redford portrayals, but I could picutre those two rascals roaming all over Ireland. That would have made a good followup movie, I reckon!

Seemed appropriate that they end up in Ohio, somehow also.

I enjoyed reading your entry - well done! Congratulations on your win, also!!!

*CakeB* HAPPY WDC ACCOUNT ANNIVERSARY FROM "Anniversary Reviews*CakeP*

What brought tHiNg to glide in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You reviewed me with a nice review for your Grim Blunt Contest and so here I am to read and review in your portfolio.

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

This is a wonderful and comprehensive list of guidelines that will be quite helpful to any short story writer. I think it is also something that will be a dynamite help to any reviewer helping someone to organize their thoughts about reviewing the work of others.

I would also suggest that the title is important, in and of itself, because that is what gets the reader to read in the first place or interests them. For a book, the cover art is important. I automatically pick up books now that I think will take place in the 1930's or 1940's and it is the cover art that lures me in at the book store for those.

*Cool**Idea*

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I was particularly interested in Point of view. Last year, I read Wilde Lake (a best selling mystery book by Laura Lippman) She purposely switched between 1st person and omniscient third person and it worked very well. It actually heightened the suspense of the story. I read a lot of her books because they take place in my home State of Maryland. At first I thought she was head hopping, but it helped me to see the story from more than one perspective, and that became important, especially toward the end.

Wonderful list and great work here, (((C)))!!! *Heart*

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I like how you build up to the date, with the usual anxieties about how things will go. Calling at midnight seems like a bold, yet informative move. It sounds like Pat knows what he likes in a girl. I wasn't sure who or what the ghostly apparition signified.

Pugsly seems like quite a character, with a vivid description of his slovenly habits and greasy fingerprints on the matchmaking endeavor.

You might want to run a spell check on this at some point.

In the next to last paragraph's next to last sentence you have "quit" when it should be "quite".

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I like how you write that this will go further than the first date as they seem to be well matched. Good use of the prompt words and you followed the directions very well.

Bravo!

Happy Halloween!

*Cow*I am the judge for today in "The Writer's Cramp. Thanks for entering! *Smile*

What does tHiNG think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I liked the party dialogue as the couple embarks on their first date to the Halloween festivities. You incorporated all the prompts very well!

I saw one minor typo in the sixth stanza - you have "in eerie screech" when it should be "an eerie screech", I believe.

What does tHiNG applaud about while reading your item?

The poem flowed very well and it was a conversational poem that was entertaining for me as a reader.

This was my favorite part:

"Well, here we are, and so I’ll knock—
suspense is dripping in the air!
It’s like bobbing for apples when
that sticky water coats your hair."

It was icky and creepy and fun - all the things I associate with Halloween hoopla.

I think you did a fine job with incorporating the prompt words.

Bravo! Happy Halloween to you and yours!
