Tuesday, August 7, 2012 ~ Day 7 of the 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is Tell us your deepest darkest secret. Mix in 3 or so LIES. Ask your readers to pick "true or false" in comments. It's up to you to tell them if they pick right!

Before I can tell my darkest secret, I need to turn on the light. A person can’t see anything in the dark unless she has good night vision or is wearing night vision goggles. Since I have neither I’m going to have to turn on the light.

Light comes on followed by a blood curdling scream. Now I know why I keep my darkest secret in the dark; it’s so that no one can see the mess it makes. First, let me state that housekeeping is not on my A priority list. I’m not even sure it is on my B or C priority lists; true when I do housework I prefer to do it in daylight with all the curtains open, but I suspect that’s so the neighbors can see me doing it and realize that I do clean house occasionally.

The advantage I see in living in a three-bedroom house and only using two bedrooms is that the third bedroom becomes a junk room. In a junk room, I can hide all my dark secrets close the curtains and turn out the light so that no one can see my darkest secrets.

Now that I’ve gotten past the palimonies and can think straight let me get to my darkest secret, which may or may not be that I’m a lousy housekeeper. No that can’t be it because everybody knows I’m a lousy housekeeper.

Remember, that at least three of the following items are lies:

*Smile* Somewhere in my house are the ashes of the dead and it is your job to figure out whether the ashes I’m talking about belong to humans or animals.

*Smile* I sleep in the nude.

*Smile* I used to be a long hall truck driver in Alaska.

*Smile* I’m a gourmet cook.

Monday, August 6, 2012 ~ Day 6 of the 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is "We are all come to Writing.com as writers, what books will you write?"

Letters form into words,
words into phrases,
phrases into sentences,
sentences into paragraphs,
paragraphs into chapters,
chapters into books,
and books into....

I found writing.com by accident; at least I thought it was an accident at the time. I worked in a college computer lab and it was a slow day, so I was searching the internet. I came across stories.com; I saw that I could join free, so I joined. That was the wisest spur of the moment decision I have ever made. Then stories.com became writing.com.

I finally purchased a basic membership, I decided I needed an upgraded membership, and now I am working on keeping a premium membership. As long as I focus and continue to work toward the goal, I will keep the premium membership. I have to because I have more items in my portfolio then I could hold in a upgraded membership portfolio.

I will write
books of poetry,
science fiction,
and fantasy.

I have to write. The only thing I want to do is write stories and poems. Writing is an obsession. Writing makes me happy and sad. Writing gives me purpose. I have a story to tell and I must write it. When I inhale my last breath, I want to be sitting at a keyboard composing a story or poem. When they come for my body, I want them to find my sitting at a computer keyboard with my hands on the keys and my last poem or story saved on the hard drive. I want my obituary to quote the last words I wrote.

Sunday, August 5, 2012 ~ Day 5 of the 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is Challenge Sunday's are a day of reflection. Tell us how your week was, what you did, and which Challengers entries resonated with you. This is also a great chance for you to review your favorite challengers blog.

Asking me to pick a favorite challenger blog is like asking Old Mother Hubbard to pick her favorite child. Sometimes the favorite walks up to you tugs on your dress and ask you for a cookie. At other times, the favorite hides among the group running the school bus. This last week I had difficulty choosing my favorite day much less anything else.

How did my week go? My week went OK. The lid to the toilet stool is fixed, so it doesn’t fall off every time I sit down on it. I deposited $60.00 of the $100.00 my sister sent me in the bank. I bought a new book of stamps because I couldn’t find the book I bought a couple of months ago, but since they’re “forever” stamps I don’t have to worry about an increase in postage if I don’t use them up this year.

How did my week go? I made three entries in "Snow Scribbles [18+]. Here are the links incase you want to read them: "My 10 favorite scents: The Perfume of Time, "Addie the Acersecomic, and "Journals of B. B. Bernstein: Beware the Cuddly Critters. I also wrote two poems "Sweltering August [E] and "Fire Frogs [13+].

How did my week go? I didn’t go to the grocery store and I talked myself out of a pizza. The reason I talked myself out of the pizza was that I realized I can no longer eat a large pepperoni pizza in one setting, I didn’t want any leftover pizza, and I just couldn’t deal with getting a medium or a small pizza.

The scent of coffee;
the aroma of Folgers classic roast
permeates
dawn’s brisk air.

I remember,
an early spring morning
in Oklahoma.

Grandpa
is sitting at the kitchen table
rolling a cigarette,
the peculator is chanting its song,
and the aroma
of fresh brewed Folgers
perfumes
the Oklahoma dawn.

Friday, August 2, 2012 ~ Day 3 of 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is Go to: http://icanhascheezburger.com/ . And bring something FUNNY back.

It’s Funny Friday
and I could use a good laugh
deep in my belly

I found Berry, the Cat’s, confusion about what to do with a fish once he caught it funny. The picture shows Berry, a black and white cat, holding fish in his mouth and a confused look in his beautiful blue eyes. Obviously, Berry knew he was supposed to catch the fish, but no one ever told him what to do with it after he caught it. Here is a link to Berry’s dilemma http://cheezburger.com/6469566464

Cats are amusing
Always guarantee a laugh
By something they do

Another item I found funny was a cartoon called The Gate. The cartoon showed God or ST. Peter standing at the gates of heaven holding them open for a yellow cat. Apparently, the cat could not make up his mind about what he wanted to do. The caption in the balloon read ”Make up your mind! Are you going IN or NOT?” The second caption read How cats end up with nine lives. Here is a link to the cartoon http://cheezburger.com/6469524480

Thursday, August 2, 2012 ~ Day 2 of 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is "Do you think the Olympics are less relevant today when compared to the past? Discuss why/why Not."

I think the Olympics are more relevant today then in the past. Despite the controversies that arise every year over the actions of players and coaches, the games bring the world together in peaceful pursuits. At the Olympic Games, the athletes from every country can demonstrate good sportsmanship and the common heritage of sports.

The Olympics reveal the things the different countries have in common. Too often, in today’s world, we see and focus on the differences the separate humanity into color, national origin, and gender. Rather then focusing on the differences, the Olympics allow us to see similarities common to all humanity.

Another reason the Olympics are still relevant today, is that it encourages people to work for a goal. The games show that no matter how difficult the training or the pursuit of the goal, if you are persistent then eventually you will succeed. At every game, there are athletes returning who did not win the gold, silver, or bronze at the last Olympic Games and they again attempt to Go for the Gold. Sometimes they achieve a medal and sometimes they do not, but they continue to pursue the goal without giving up. The winners in life are those who continue working for the goal rather then those who give up trying.

The Olympics are still relevant because they are a platform where sworn enemies can meet on peaceful grounds and compete without weapons. The Olympics are a venue for harmony and unity in a disintegrating civilization.

Wednesday, August 1, 2012 ~ Day 1 of the August 2012 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is Describe an unusual/weird dream that you have had recently.

Knocks,
shouts,
someone is knocking at my bedroom window,
on the glass patio door,
on the iron security screen at the front door.

Wake up
(at least I think I wake up),
force myself to think,
look out into the darkness,
look out at the oleander bush
reflecting...
Am I awake?
Am I still asleep?

My limbs won’t move;
force myself to get up
and robot-walk into the dining room,
the patio light is lit,
but no one is on the patio.

Go into the living room
and look out the picture window...
my car is gone!

Is this a dream?

I remember
putting my car in the garage
last night.

Start to go to the front door,
but find myself sitting up in bed,
so I get up
(hoping I am awake this time)
pass through the dining room
on my way to the entrance hall,
I open the front door
the security screen is locked
and my car
is parked in the garage;
I check the clock in the living room
and it is 2:30 AM;
since the alarm is set to go off
in thirty minutes
there is no use going back to bed;
therefore,
I take my thyroid medication
and sit down on the couch,
with my prayer book.

Tuesday, July 31, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is Whom do you think gave the best Prompts this month, and why? by BIG BAD WOLF Happy July 4th!

After pondering this for half-a-day and driving back and forth across Las Vegas in the rain, I think the best prompt for July is What is the best gift you have given? What is the best gift you have received? by Emily . The main reason for this is that it caused me to look at the gifts I have given and received over the years.

Another reason I think it is the best prompt in July is that I am still thinking about the prompt even after I finished responding to it yesterday. It brought back some fond memories of gifts I received over the years. Some of those gifts I still have and some were lost among the moves I have made. Some of the gifts I played with or wore until there was nothing left. Others I gave to the needy when I out grew them or did not use them any more.

What is there to say?
Gifts are treasured and stored away,
but sometime regifting
is a double gift given to self
and others.

As I said, I am still thinking about that prompt this afternoon. The more I think about it the more memories return. My Grandma Newland kept every gift anyone ever gave her. Some of the gifts she used and some she just put away and did not use them. I am not sure why because I never ask her. I do know that I am more inclined to regift items that I cannot or do not use, but Mom save all sorts of gifts, which I am now in the process of regifting to charities.

Every year on my birthday,
I thank the Lord,
for the day of my conception;
because
without the embryo
that I was,
I would not be
the woman I am today.

The greatest gift anyone can give or receive is the gift of life, either physical life or spiritual life. I gave physical life to the daughter I gave up for adoption. I received the gift of spiritual life, when I accepted Baha’u’llah (Glory of God).

On the day
of my salvation,
the splendor of God’s Glory
gave me eternal life.

Sunday, July 29, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE initiating prompt is A Nice Cold Glass of ... by Prosperous Snow celebrating

A Nice Cold Glass of Buttermilk

I had a nice cold glass of buttermilk last night. It was low fat buttermilk, which was all the store carried. I prefer whole milk of any type, but since it is hard to find these days I drink what I can get. I got used to the taste of regular low fat milk and I got used to the taste of powdered milk. Therefore, I will eventually get used to the taste of low fat buttermilk.

If I have a choice of milk, then I would rather drink the low fat buttermilk then the low fat powered milk I mix up. I does not matter whether I follow the directions or mix the powdered milk creatively; it still does not taste like regular milk. At least, the low fat buttermilk comes close to tasting like the buttermilk I remember drinking as a child.

I will have another glass of buttermilk today. I am still trying to decide if I should give Mom a small glass today or not. I am not sure how Mom’s system will react to the buttermilk. I put regular milk on my cereal, but Mom eats her cereal without milk; at least at home. I am not sure if she has milk on her cereal at the daycare center or not. I do not know and I am not worried about it because I have enough to worry about when Mom is home and I am feeding her.

Periodically, I ask Mom if she wants milk on her cereal and she says no. I will ask her if she wants a sip of buttermilk today and if she does I will give her a small amount in a cup. It has been a long time since Mom drink buttermilk, in fact I am not sure whether she likes it or not. I suppose I had better ask her.

EMERGENCY PROMPT: What is your favorite breakfast?

Saturday, July 28, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is "Give credit where ... by Wordsmitty ✍️

The rich get richer,
the poor get poorer,
and the banks give credit to both.
The banks just charge the poor more.

That does not seem fair to me. Not that anything in life is fair, especially in a consumer society. Still if one is going to charge somebody more for credit, it should be the ones who can afford to pay more instead of those who are living from paycheck to paycheck praying that the next rental or mortgage does not mean that they have to make the choice between feeding themselves and/or their children/pets.

All though, now that I think about it maybe we do not live in a consumer society, the consumer society idea could be just a propaganda tactic by the rich to make poor people think that they a getting something when really the only thing they are doing is making the rich richer.

I am not sure I planned to make this a rant. However, it is Saturday. It has been a long day and I have been depressed all week. I got depressed when I paid the power bill, which was over $200. I still have the water bill to pay and the trash collection bill to pay. The water bill used to be less then $10 and now it is more then $20. There are also other bills I have to pay, most of which is the result of credit, which brings me to another part of the rant.

If you pay the credit on time then you pay only interest and on the money barrowed. However, if you get behind because you have to leave the work force for some reason or you are on a fixed income (which I believe is a misnomer I think the term should be broken income) then they tack a late charge. If you make your payment early, they do not give you a bonus for making the payment early. You do not even get a bonus for paying off a loan or other type of credit early.

Then there is the money you spend of gas or other types of transportation to go across town to make a payment in cash. The reason you drive across town in the first place it to keep from paying an exorbitant amount to make a phone payment or debit card payment.

Friday, July 27, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is How would you protect your family during a zombie invasion? by BIG BAD WOLF Happy July 4th!

I am a firm believer in prayer.
I believe that God answers prayers.
I believe that God answers urgent prayers first.
I also believe that God expects me to “tie up my camel”. That is God expects me to be prepared.

I have an alarm system that speaks. If the front door or backdoor opens, the system says, “Front door open” or “Back door open”. I have lights lit all night on the patio. I have a light lit all night on the front porch. I sleep with my cell phone with in arms reach at all times. I have gardening tools that will take the head off a zombie, but I am not sure how well they would work against other lethal creatures. I am probably as prepared as a 65-year-old woman can be, at least one who has no intention of going to a sporting goods store and buying a projectile weapon of any type.

I suspect that the zombie invasion is a ruse, a ploy to conceal the real danger. It is not the zombies or anything we know about that we have to worry about or prepare for. Whatever the coming invasion it is something that is so far off the wall that no one, in or out of her or his right mind, would worry about or consider dangerous.

Therefore, the only way to prepare is to keep plenty of non-perishable food items on hand. Hold firm to prayer and faith. Keep a cell phone nearby. Always vary the route you take from home and back. Make sure the car has a full tank of gas, good tires, and a real spare, with the equipment to change a flat properly.

Wednesday, July 25, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is Imagine you are Noah and are assembling animals to take with you on the ark. However, you can only take five species of animals with you. Which animals would you take? Why? by Emily

My Five Animals

1. Cats
2. Dogs
3. Cows
4. Chickens
5. Horses

*Cat* Cats give people comfort, purr them to sleep, and push them to go beyond the moment to find something funny. Cats are hunters looking for the little creepy unwanted guest that sneak and onto ship. Once they find these things then they hunt them down and remove the treat themselves or let their people know where to find the sneaky creepy crawlers. Cats make good companions because they know just how far they can push their people before irritating them.

*Pawprints* Dogs make good companions and are good at herding other animals. They make people happy and give comfort. They are guardians to both adults and children. And, contrary to popular opinion, dogs get along fine with cats because dogs always know who is boss. Dogs always know who the true head of the family is. They know who is a pushover and will let them get away with anything.

*Bigsmile* Cows are good to eat and they give milk, which makes them dual-purpose animals. They eat grass and their leather can be used for clothing and footwear.

*Bird* Chickens are dual-purpose animals as well. They give eggs at least six days a week. Their meat is good to eat and their feathers are useful for stuffing pillows, mattress, etc.

*Delight* Horses you ride them.

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE initiating blog prompt Night Noises indoors and out by Prosperous Snow celebrating

It is after 9:00 pm in Las Vegas. I sit at my computer and listen to night noises. I can hear the refrigerator and the air conditioning unit going on and off randomly. I hear the fan in my mother’s room. I am listening for my mother.

I am listening for Mom.
I am listening for my name.
I am listening for crying.

Earlier in the evening Mom was crying, but she could not tell me why. I think she must have had a bad dream. When I went to check on her, I took her last pill of the day with me. She took it without any difficulty. This time of night, she usually takes her medication without any trouble or making any faces.

I do not hear any noises from outside. Earlier in the day, I heard the grumble of thunder, but the clouds have passed. It rained a little bit in scattered Las Vegas neighborhoods. It could still rain tonight, but I doubt it will rain very much.

I like to listen to the sound of rain at night. It is soothing and lulls me to sleep, but tonight the only noises I hear are in the house. I do not hear the neighbor’s dog barking, so they must have taken him or her into the house. They do not leave the dog out in the rain or in the hot sun.

I suppose I should check the front screen door to make sure I locked it. I always lock it and then I check it again before going to bed to make sure I locked it. I open the inside door, so that I can look onto the porch before checking the screen door.

This neighborhood is quiet. Las Vegas seems quiet tonight. I do not hear sirens or the distant echoes of gunshots. I have gotten used to the periodic echoes of gunshots. They are never close, so I do not worry about opening the door and looking out into the front yard. Living in Las Vegas, one can hear some weird noises at night.

EMERGENCY PROMPT: Favorite midnight snack.

Monday, July 23, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is "Beyond the Unexpected by Wordsmitty ✍️

Sometimes I wander if I am living in the Twilight Zone. All right, I do admit to having an extremely vivid, weird, and sometimes scary imagination. I admit that sometimes my dreams are so vivid that they appear real and I wake asking myself “Was it a dream or did it really happen?” Now back to the prompt.

Tell me something that happened to you that was so unexpected that you had no idea how to deal with it. The doctor diagnosing my mother with Alzheimer’s disease. All right, before the official diagnosis, for several years before, I knew there was something wrong because of little things that Mom would do which were odd. However, she did nothing that would set off red lights and sirens. It was just random weird, odd, unusual and out of character actions.

Mentally healthy people sometimes do unusual and weird things that are out of character. The normal reaction is to shack your head, smile, and wonder, “What was that person thinking?” You normally do not take them to the doctor because of these actions; you just shrug your shoulders and go on with your day or your life.

Mom’s diagnosis was something I could not skip over or move around; I had to deal with it head on. My methods of dealing with the unexpected are prayer, writing, crying, and sometimes just staring blankly into space meditating on the navel of the universe.

As for dealing with Mom, sometimes when I talk to Mom it is like talking to someone in another dimension. Sometimes when I talk to Mom, I have no idea what Mom is talking about. Sometimes I wonder who Mom is talking to; I know I am the one in the room, but I am not sure I am the one she is talking to. Sometimes Mom thinks I am her mother, sometimes she knows I am her daughter, and sometimes I have no idea who she thinks I am.

How do I survive this unexpected turn of events? I get up each day say my prayers, take my medication, drink coffee (sometimes laced with chocolate), and put one foot in front of the other. As long as I can keep moving, I am all right. As long as I can walk into my garage and get into my car without a spider dropping onto my head, I am all right.

Anyone can survive the unexpected as long a she or he realizes that the ever present now is just a moment in space-time shared without countless other intelligent beings in the universe. Somewhere in the vastness of space and the infinitude of time there are beings who are much better off as well as beings who are much worse off. Every being in the universe is surviving the unexpected; it is just that some events are more unexpected and devastating then other.

Saturday, July 21, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is Talk about your favorite game by BIG BAD WOLF Happy July 4th!

Is bitching a game?
Can griping be called a game?
I pick Sudoku!

Since neither bitching nor griping are games, I guess my favorite game is Sudoku. Maybe I don’t bitch or gripe as much as I think I do; I know I play Sudoku more then either. I solve Sudoku more the anything else because it relaxes me or at least helps me to relax.

I also solve Sudoku more then I play Spider Solitary or Free Cell Solitary, the only games on my computer that I enjoy (most of the time). I enjoy Sudoku more then I enjoy either solitary game perhaps because I don’t have to sit at the computer while I play Sudoku. I can solve Sudoku on my cell phone, which has two other games I’m not interest in because they aren’t solitary games. I can also solve the Sudoku in the paper or use one of the several puzzle books I have.

Sometimes I think I’m addicted to Sudoku, Spider Solitary, and Free Cell Solitary (in that order), but I suppose an addiction to one of those games is better then something else. Perhaps I just enjoy them because I can play them without having to interact with other human beings. It isn’t that I dislike interacting with other human beings, but sometimes they can be a pain in the brain and somewhat irritating.

I don’t like being irritated and games or puzzles I can solve or play by myself help me to unwind and disengage from irritation. This helps me to sleep better and I’m more likely to remember my dreams when I go to sleep relaxed and unwound.

Friday, July 20, 2012 ~ July 2012 Unofficial: FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is Tell me about a time when you finished a task that seemed impossible when you first started it. This can be a writing endeavor or something else, but please be sure to tell me how proud you were to complete this extremely difficult objective by Emily

There is an old saying that “nothing in impossible, but it may be improbable”. I do know the seeming impossible is achievable if approached properly and breaks occur when frustration raises it ugly head. At this point, I cannot think of anything I ever started that appeared impossible when I started it, but frustration can change my point of view about midway through the project, especially when a deadline is immanent.

Procrastination
And frustrations will suggest
The impossible

I have found two things that overcome procrastination and frustration and their suggestion that a project is impossible. These two things are stubborn bull headedness and the proper type of break. Sometimes a short nap will help and at other times, the only thing to do is eat chocolate. For some reason chocolate energizes and pushes me to the point of accomplishment. Chocolate is also a good reward when I finish a seemingly impossible project.

Friday a lost day
I spent the morning shopping
Afternoon sleeping

My Friday was shopping and it did not seem impossible when I went to the store. I like to go to the supermarket on Friday because I find “Manager’s Specials” at Smith’s Food & Drug. I went to the store and went in. I found some nice specials and bought everything I intended. I came home (about 11:30 am) and put everything away. I sat down on the couch and dozed off. I woke up about 3:00 pm and decided I had better unlock the screen door and leave the front door open until the daycare van brought Mom home because I was afraid I would go back to sleep. It is a good thing I did not sit down at the computer on Friday because I would have went to sleep and fallen off my chair again. I think the mistake I made Friday was not eating before I went to the grocery store.
