Something's Telling Me It Might Be You.
That you might be the one,
but I can’t be sure until
you step into the sun.

Too many of the men in my past
insisted on remaining in the dark,
I guess they thought if I couldn’t see their faults
love would continue to spark.

They didn’t count on a full moon
to reveal their limitation;
perhaps they believed that since they were male
they had no imperfection.

I’m not a Cinderella
who needs a handsome prince
I just want an ordinary guy
who won’t step on my feet during life’s dance.

An accidental oldest child
Why was I born?

I didn’t learn, until a few years ago that I wasn’t my mother’s first pregnancy. She had a miscarriage, but she didn’t say how long before I was born. I learn about this by accident; I sent for my birth certificate and it indicated that she had an earlier pregnancy. Since Mom didn’t seem to want to talk about the subject, I never pushed it, however, now I wish I had. That explains why I am the accidental oldest child (my words not my mother’s).

Why was I born?
The purpose of the individual human
is to know and love God,
while the purpose of humanity
is to carry forward an ever advancing civilization.

Why was I born at this stage in the history of earth? Humanity is in the process of moving from a civilization of nation-states to a world encompassing civilization. The events happening in the world today are pushing humanity toward its destiny and a civilization that unites the entire planet.

I’m sure there is a reason for me to be alive at this time. Because if there wasn’t a reason, I would have died in a refrigerator on a farm in Oklahoma when I was over the age of three and under the age of nine. I’m not precisely sure of the year I shut myself in the refrigerator playing a game of hide-and-seek. My grandfather found me, but he never told my mother; she didn’t hear about that until I told her years later.

Why was I born?
Why was I born at this point in history?
Why am I alive?
Why was I born in America?
Interconnected questions
Answer one and the other answers
Fall into place.

I know there was a reason for my birth. I was born to be my mother’s caregiver, but there are also other reasons for my birth. I was born to know and love God. I was born to write. I think there are other reasons for my birth; reasons that haven’t as yet been revealed.

There is a reason
for the birth of every
person on Earth,
a reason
that each individual
must discover
for him or herself.

Weather changes me
into a wolf stalking her prey
across snow covered fields.

Sometimes it is best just to write down your first thoughts, especially about weather, and go from there. The weather in Las Vegas has been interesting and weird. Winter was warmer then normal, I think we may have had three or four nights, in October or November, when the temperatures reached freezing.

Winter’s child
laughs at subzero temperatures,
while making snow angels.

The weather seems to affect my mother’s mood more then mine. Mom is much more depressed on cloudy days. Of course, with Mom depression is something that comes and goes throughout the day, but on cloudy days she remains depressed longer. In addition, Mom gets cold easily, so anytime the temperature is below 80 degrees she is cold. I, on the other hand, prefer temperatures 79 degrees or below.

Mojave Max
was right about spring,
a desert tortoise
knows more about
the coming of spring
then a groundhog.

Spring at last. It’s been windy spring with temperatures in the high 70s or mid 80s; however, those days may be over. This week the temperatures are in the 90s. We haven’t had a triple digit day yet (at least I don’t think we’ve had one), but they are coming. I’m not looking forward to triple digits myself; all though, Mom will enjoy the hot weather. The biggest issue I have with Mom is getting her to drink liquids. She barely takes two sips of water with her medication.

Summer and autumn
triple digit temperatures
and then shorter days.

... and this only sounds abusing.

Monday through Friday, a Certified Nurses Assistance (C.N.A.) gives Mom a shower. On Saturday and Sunday, if she needs a shower due to an accident I give her the shower. Anyone who has read some of my earlier posts knows that Mom has Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and among other things has anger issues.

This morning, as she does every morning, Mom put up a fuss (actually more like a tantrum) when the C.N.A. gave her the shower. Mom shouts, accuses the woman of wanting to kill her, calls her names, etc. This morning, someone called the police, a 911 call, about a senior in trouble. The officers were nice. I showed them through the house and the C.N.A. showed them her information. They left and that is it (I hope that is it) for today.

The last couple of days I have left the front door open, which may be why someone called today because Mom was louder then normal. Anyway, from now on I’m leaving the front door and all other doors or windows in the house closed until after Mom gets her bath.

I suspect this is going to be an on going issue; therefore, I have to get the house a lot cleaner then it is to prevent my embracement when the officers come again.

Since I have a doctor’s appointment at 10:00 AM, I’m going to post this now so that I can get dressed. I need to have the bandage on my left leg changed today and again on Thursday.

Monday, May 14, 2012 ~ MAY 2012 FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE initiating prompt is Monday Muse by Prosperous Snow celebrating

I am so tired I can’t think, therefore, I’m going to start typing and see what comes out. This happens every so often about half way through they day. I made an entry in one of my off site blogs this morning without any difficulties. Then all of a sudden, I got tired.

Weariness sets in
I stare at the computer
Nothing comes to mind

I’m so tired that I don’t remember what I wrote this morning, so I checked. I wrote about washing dishes by hand. I wrote how that helped me focus on the moment. After I posted that entry, I got hungry. I sit down in front of the television with Twinkies and a cup of coffee. I remember eating the Twinkies and drinking to coffee then I fell asleep.

I dozed on the couch
Watching Animal Planet
Animal Control Officers

When I woke up, I went back to the computer. I intended to make an entry in my other offsite blog, but all I could remember was the theme. The theme for today’s entry was “Monday Muse”, but I couldn’t think of anything to write. Perhaps I need a vacation or a stay-cation.

Free writing helps
If you do not have to think
About what you write

All right, I’m better now. Not as tired as when I began this entry. Maybe I will attempt another entry to my other offsite blog, as soon as I go pick up the mail.

One of my favorite scripture verses:
“In the garden of thy heart plant naught but the rose of love, and from the nightingale of affection and desire loosen not thy hold....”
(Baha'u'llah, The Persian Hidden Words, #3)

Always in my purse
And my car’s glove compartment
A book of prayers

My Go-To book is one that gives me comfort everyday of the year. One of the books is a Baha’i prayer book and the other is the Hidden Words of Baha’u’llah. There are other books, but those two I can carry in my purse or in the glove compartment of my car. Sometimes, I carry book of poems with me, as well. If I know that I am going to have to wait in a doctor’s office or some place else then I put a book of poems in my purse. I also carry a journal with me so that I can write lines to use in poems.

A book of scriptures
Or a book of poetry
Calm my frustration

I am not sure of the first book I every read, but I think it was poetry. I seem to remember a Mother Goose (not Mother Goose and Grimm), but a book of children’s poetry with a picture of Mother Goose on the front. I think the first poem I memorized had to do with a mouse running up a clock. I also memorized Mary had a Little Lamb.

Children’s poetry
A book of Mother Goose rhymes
Poetry is fun

Another thing I remember from my childhood was someone (either my mother or grandmother) reading the Bible to me. I enjoyed the Bible stories, especially the Psalms. The first sacred poem I memorized was Psalms 23. I still remember parts of the poetry I memorized as a child.

Saturday, May 12, 2012 ~ MAY 2012 FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is How your plans have changed by Fivesixer

Just go with the flow,
Distraction, interruption,
And change a part of life.

A change in plans is inevitable because life is fluid. It is a river flowing toward an unknown ocean. Sometimes the river is smooth because the riverbed is deep and uncluttered with stones. Sometimes there are rapids, which an individual must negotiate. Sometimes there are boulders, which the individual has to go around; thus, plans change.

Radiant acquiescence
is difficult
and sometimes impossible.

Radiant acquiescence joyful acceptance, but sometimes the only emotion I can manage is acquiescence. I wish I could accept every change in plans with a happy smile and a sparkle in my eyes, but I can’t. Sometimes I’m lucky to accept the change in plans without grumbling and ranting; neither of which help the situation.

Weeds are plentiful
and road blocks are inevitable;
sometimes both necessitate
a change in plans
or destination.

A change in plans is encountering a huge blooming oleander (a beautiful weed) in the center of the trail. I can’t go through it because there is the possibility of breaking off branches and getting its poisonous sap on my bare arms or legs. Therefore, I have to go around, which means either squeezing by it on one side (a slight change of plans) or taking another path altogether.

Sometimes a weak smile
Followed by a flood of tears
Helps the spirit acquiesces.

A change in plans is a gigantic boulder dropping out of a clear blue sky in front of my car. I put on the breaks and then decide if I can drive around it, which is rare because a boulder that big usually blocks a six lane highway with the exception of off ramps. I then take a deep breath, whisper a prayer, and then turn onto the off ramp. My plans have changed, there is no use ranting or crying. A smile, even a weak smile, helps.

Friday, May 11, 2012 ~ MAY 2012 FOLLOW ME BLOGGING CHALLENGE prompt is That Special Movie by BIG BAD WOLF Happy July 4th!

I prefer the classic movies. Yes, I do like Showboat and Gone with the Wind; I never get tired of hearing Rhett say, “Frankly, my dear I don’t give a damn!” However, my all time favorite classic movies are the monster flicks. I love watching the Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Them, etc. I have no one special movie all of them are special in their own way and all of them bring back memories of my childhood. All of them bring back memories of a time when my life wasn’t as chaotic and stressful; when I went to stay at my Grandparents home almost every weekend.

That Special Movie,
Haunts my childhood memories.
Another Friday night watching T.V.
The late night monster movie on channel 5 or channel 3.

Staying up past midnight was a special treat,
Popcorn, soda, and a chocolate candy bar
Eaten just like at the movie theater
Can still bring a tranquil smile to my aged face.
I always rooted for the poor monster
Antagonist though he was: The Creature from the Black
Lagoon or Count Dracula.

Movie classics are still my favorite.
Old flicks like Godzilla or the original King Kong.
Videos that reveal how the special effects were created,
I like to watch the movie and then the
Explanation of stop motion animation.

Time flies
at the speed of light
scattering photon
through the heart of matter.

There is not enough time. There will never be enough time. Accomplish what is important and what must be done in the present moment and screw the rest. Do not look at the entire picture, rather focus on a small part and work from there either outward or inward depending upon the circumstances and location.

Work from sun to sun
Or from sunset to dawn
Take a prayer break

Time flies. The more you worry about what you need to accomplish the faster time goes and the less you accomplish. When it comes to deadlines, remember that the Romans established them by placing prisoners inside a circular line. All the prisoners inside the circle lived and they executed any captives outside the circle.

Take each day’s troubles
As they come into your life
Tomorrow another day

Patience is a virtue especially when it comes to the passage of time and a deadline. Patience is having something else to do in the mean time. When waiting in line do not worry about the passage of time because this is the one situation when time slows down and in some cases stands still. At least, until you get to the head of the line and accomplish your business. Once you have accomplished your business then time runs faster then water in a dry riverbed during the spring snowmelt.

A digital watch
And an analog clock counts
Seconds hours minutes

The blogging challenge
Following intriguing prompts
My muse is happy

How we are enjoying the follow me concept in blogging? I enjoy the follow me concept because it means I don’t have to think of a topic or a theme. I can look at the title and start writing. All I have to do is write and then read over what I’ve just written to make sure it makes sense and I haven’t used there when I intended their or they’re.

Proof read your entry
Before using the spell-check
Eliminate confusion

The words I normally confuse are then and than, but sometimes when I’m using timed free writing I get other simple words confused or misspell. I try to spell words I’m not sure about phonically so that the spell checker can pick them up; if they are in the spell checker.

Atrocious spelling
Is a good explanation
Something I can overcome

What else did I want to say? I’m writing this in the dark and I’m not referring to the lack of sunlight or artificial light. I’m getting over a bad case of the blues. All right, it was more then just blues because I got so frustrated that I wanted to give up. I’m not going to give up, simply because I can’t give up. Something within me that will not allow me to give up, but that doesn’t mean I don’t consider the possibility or write about it in my offline journal.

A follow me prompt
Always scatters the darkness
Gooses my muses to action

I began to write
In the middle of the night
Without any light

I’m not sure I can remember my first piece of writing. I know I was in grade school and that was a long time ago. I’m not even sure I have my first piece of writing. I’ve moved at least five times since grade school and things get lost in moves from one house to another, from one city to another, from one state to another, from a house to apartment, and then from an apartment to a house.

Moving is a pain
It causes a lot of strain
It’s a writer’s bane

It’s Tuesday in Las Vegas and probably everywhere else in the United State and Canada. The rest of the world I’m not sure about; it could be Wednesday across the International Date Line. I’ve never crossed the International Date Line. I’ve never been out of the United States. I have never had the adventure of walking through a whole body scanner. The last time I took a plane any place was before 9/11 and I don’t think I even went through a metal detector then.

I want to travel
To see all of Earth’s marvels
Then go to the stars

My Righting is Getting Bedder, as well. As is my cooking and imagination. This morning, I should consider imagination first. For the past few days, the wind has been blowing and I’m hearing strange noises in my house. Yesterday, we had dust devils in Las Vegas and one even attacked my house. Fortunately, it didn’t do any damage; at least, no damage that I know of.

Tranquility reigns
I push self-imposed limits
Dissipating doubt

When I'm on top of the world somewhere in the back of my mind the voice of fear curls into the fetal positions. I am more confident and have more faith in my abilities and talents.

Time seems to stand still
Until I look at the clock
Then it moves too fast

When I'm on top of the world the pain in my knees retreat into a tight kernel hiding somewhere in my brain. Perhaps I don’t notice the pain because I’m too busy or perhaps the medication works better when I'm on top of the world.

A cup of coffee
Brings a smile to my face
A family tradition

When I'm on top of the world everything is possible and attainable. I could climb Denali in midwinter ignoring all the ice and snow. I would remain warm in the embrace of success.

All thing possible
When I'm on top of the world
Joy and happiness

When I'm on top of the world test, difficulties, and pain don’t cause stress. They are still there, but regulated to another plain of existence; hiding until I forget that that these aspects of material existence of physical life last only as long as body and soul are together upon this plain of existence. Once the door opens and the soul kisses the physical body good-bye the tests, the difficulties, and the pain will be left behind and the soul will ascend into the garden of paradise.

Another long day
Five months into twenty-ten
Weariness sits in

I just put Mom to bed. I still have to take the oxygen compressor (or whatever the machine is called that produces oxygen for her to breath) into her room. I made the mistake of asking Mom if she wanted to go to bed before I took the machine in her room. Mom has a short attention span and if I don’t take her to bed when she wants to go she forgets that’s what she wanted to do. The truth is, I’m not sure I want to fight the battle of the oxygen tonight, at least not until I rest a little bit.

Pennies from heaven
Rest beside my computer
Fill a prescription bottle

I was going to make this entry about pennies. I read in today paper (for once I got to read my morning paper before noon) that Canada will no longer produce pennies because the metal used to mint them is worth more then the pennies themselves. I remember reading something about a movement in the U.S. that suggested the U.S. Mint stop making pennies because the pennies were worth less then the metal used to make them, of course, nothing every came of it. Maybe, I’ll wash an apple juice bottle out and start putting pennies in it; they might be worth more then a penny someday. I’ll still label the bottle pennies from heaven.

Another long day
Wondering what to do with
Pennies from heaven

Spread chocolate syrup
Onto a slice of white bread
Fold over and eat

I remember my grandfather catching my sibling and me in the act of creating our own chocolate sandwich. I am not sure which one of us came up with the idea of running water over the sandwich or slices of bread after spreading on the chocolate syrup.

The whole thing started innocently enough and I suspect my grandfather found the incident funny, he just could not laugh in front of us. This is how it went. We put chocolate syrup on white bread and spread it out with a knife. Then you could have your chocolate sandwich in one of three ways. You could fold the bread, you could use two slices of chocolate covered bread, or you could have an open face sandwich.

That part went fine and then we decided to become creative. We put the chocolate on the bread, next we went to the kitchen facet, turn it on and then run water over the chocolate sandwich. Grandpa came into the kitchen and put a stop to this. However, he did not tell us we could not do this outside; he just told us “Don’t do that in the kitchen.”

We continued making chocolate sandwiches, but instead of using water from the kitchen facet, we used water from an outside facet. After spreading the chocolate syrup on the bread, we then went outside, turn that facet on and held our sandwiches under that. Grandpa eventually caught onto what we were doing and put a stop to that.

Chocolate sandwich
Held under the cold water
An intriguing taste

Why They Couldn't Quit On That? Is similar to a question I sometimes ask myself. In my mind the question is Why don’t you just give up and throw in the towel? I probably would if my towels were soft enough not to hurt someone when they hit them. Unfortunately or fortunately, my towels aren’t soft. I don’t care how much fabric softener I use my towels aren’t soft because I have to hang them across the furniture to dry, but that’s a different entry, which would be a rant.

Today my day began at 12:35 AM when I heard my mother crying. I got up, hobbled barefoot (against the advice of my podiatrist) into my mother’s bedroom to find out why she was crying. She was sitting on the side of the bed looking for something. I have no idea what she was looking for because she was unable to remember the name of the object.

I finally determined that she wanted to leave, to go somewhere, but she couldn’t state where. I suspect she wanted to go find her parents because this morning she didn’t think I was her mother. I finally got her to lay back down and the oxygen tube back in her nose. Then I hobbled back to what serves as a bed for me and wrote the following poems or maybe they’re all one poem, I haven’t decided yet.

She woke up crying,
At twelve thirty-five A.M.
Mom wants to go home
To a house fifty years gone
And to her parents white bones.

Sometimes she believes
That she still lives in Blackwell
And that I am her mother,
She has forgotten
That sixty-five years ago
She carried me for nine months.

Next
Move on
Go forward
Do not turn back
The next test soon comes
The next plant waits to thrive
So transplant it into your garden
Water it with your love and prayers
And feed it with the music of your soul

*TulipO* *TulipP* *TulipR*

How do I cope with adversity? How do I move on? I pray. I meditate. I blog. I write letters in my off line journal. Today, I tried something different. Today I transplanted a grapefruit mint plant from a small container to a large planter.

The plant appears to be doing well and I hope it thrives. This is the first time I have attempted to transplant a living plant. I did try planting a seed once, but it did not grow, of course, there could have been a thousand reasons for that. I am going to try transplanting other plants. I need to get gardening gloves, bone marrow, and garden soil.

At my next doctor’s appointment, I plan to discuss my depression with my doctor. I want to ask her if she can give me a referral to a psychologist. I have dealt with a psychologist on a social basis, but never on a professional level. It is a new experience and a good way to deal with adversity it to try something new.

Companions in life
Traveling across rough roads
Smiles and tears journey

It’s Wednesday morning, my mother left for the daycare center. I called her Hospice nurse and ordered her meds. I called the wound hospital and made an appointment for myself tomorrow at 10:00 AM to have my left leg bandaged again. I will also take my car into the shop at about 8:00 AM, the wound hospital I go to is about a block away from the mechanic’s shop. It’s within walking distance, so just to be on the safe side I will take my mother’s walker with me and walk to the hospital.

Smiles and tears hold hands
As they walk down life’s highway
Teachers of the soul

Walking to the wound hospital may or may not be a good idea. Walking doesn’t irate the problem with my leg because it isn’t bleeding, it’s just weeping. I will wear my compression stockings, so my legs won’t get that tired. I’m getting tired of having a bandage around my left leg. The bandage throws off my balance when I’m walking, which is why I’m taking the walker with me. I will need it on the way back from the wound care.

Another day dawns
Smiles and tears waiting to fall
Do not give notice

is just another detour
on the dirt road that is life;
just another way
to create tension and strife.

Sit up straight,
inhale slowly through your nose,
while mentally counting
one ... two ... three

then exhale slowly from your mouth,
while mentally counting
four ... five ... six

repeat
as many times as necessary
or until you reach your desired

Remember,

April 30, 2012, Monday, Day 30 ~ 30-Day Blogging Challenge prompt is "Tell us about your journey thru the last 30 Days blogging. What did you think of the challenge this month? Any suggestions for future challenges? Tell us what you liked and what you didn't like."

I liked the 30-Day Blogging Challenge for April. My favorite part of the challenge was the serial prompts. I think I like them because the challenge me.

A blog entry a day,
Keeps depression away.

I also like reading other people’s responses. Even though, because of time restraints, it is sometimes difficult to find the time; I like the challenge. I enjoy challenges, which is probably why everything in my life has become a challenge.

My suggestion is a challenge in which the participants write fiction stories or poems in response to the prompts.
