In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.
I'm good at...
encouraging others to write because I love to read.
I will not review...
something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

Why I Read Your Item:

*Right**Shamrock* I think I saw it promoted in the Newsfeed. I wish my memory was sharper about where I see things, but that is what I suspect!

What I Thought About as I Read:

*Right**Leaf* This activity is very well organized. I was surprised and happy to see that it was open early. I think that's a great idea to do that. The end of February is kind of blah and this is the perfect thing to liven things up!

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

*Right**Ghost* I like all the nice packages. It is good to see a lot of nice site participation with lots to choose from. Very exciting to gamble, too. *Laugh*

By the way, I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's again since we communicated on Valentine's Day! *Heart*

Why I Read Your Item:

*Right**Shamrock*You promoted it in the Newsfeed and so here I am to look and send a review.

What I Thought About as I Read:

*Right**Leaf*Very cool, indeed. So, I gather you wrote to each with questions about what you read. Have you written to J.K. Rawlings yet?

What I liked best when I grazed in your pasture and did I swish my tail?

*Right**Ghost* I especially like Roald Dahl and Charles Schulz's signatures.

I have written to a few authors. After a long time sent, I had a really nice response from Danielle Steel. Also Sue Grafton. I wrote to one other, but she never has so far responded.

Well, I'm patient, maybe it took a long time getting to her with this lousy mail service we have now. It really went downhill after George W. Bush got through with the country and went further down under Obama's reign. God only knows what will happen in the future I guess.

I like that Mr. Dahl sent a nice greeting even though he didn't answer the questions. At least he was polite and positive in his response.

Thanks for sharing this! *Heart**Cow**Balloons*

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I am reading the updated entries in your Blog City Journal and sending reviews.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I do handwritten journals also. Then after a few years, I look at some I wrote a few years ago. Sometimes, I think I just go around and around with the same problem and frustrations. But, I guess that is life for you.

Then a major life event happens and, like you, I look for things in the reading.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I think that prayer helps if it is the prayer to see what we need to see. When I pray for an outcome, I don't think it happens for a long time, if at all. But, if I pray for God to show me why this or that, I usually find peace with it all.

Life's a complicated puzzle and maybe by the end we figure it out and maybe not. Maybe, as you say, writing as a character helps us to better understand the world and ourselves. It is fun to do, anyway.

Another fine entry you have crafted, Megan!

I am not an expert on poetry or prose or much else. I am certainly not an editor or proof reader, heaven forbid! I am merely a reader who loves to read. If I send a review, it means I enjoyed my reading experience enough to let you know it. I look at a review as my reaction to what I have read and a sharing of what I bring to the table on any given day. Sometimes I don't bring much, but I enjoy my reading adventures either way.

You need all sorts of reviewers for all sorts of writers. We can't all write a dissertation every time. If I did that, I'd do about six reviews a year.

I do what I like to do until someone tells me to not do it that way. It depends on who says it as to whether I really listen and retain it, though.

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*I saw that you had added to your Blog City Journal so I came to read.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*In our spare time we do what we enjoy. Everything I ever did (work or play) revolved around reading and/or writing. I never really considered that before. Your scrapbooking and collaborations sound like they have been a lot of fun for you.

I used to have a lot of fun when I wrote with the people who came here from the Never Been Kissed Movie web site. They were really talented writers and we had so much fun doing that. MirandaBaby was a big part of that. I got to meet her in real life and we are still friends although we don't really write together anymore. She's busy living her life and I'm busy here grazing. *Heart*

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I think it is good to find what you enjoy and then find different challenging ways to make that enjoyment work for you. A great example of that is your award winning Jane Austen Group and Newsletter that you write for us. What a proud achievement that is and you have done it for a good while now faithfully.

Fine entry here, as always my friend!

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I was looking in the Newsfeed and I saw all the poem entries listed, so I decided to read them all before I vote because that seems only fair.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is a poem that is laced with regret and sadness. It could be about someone who has passed (even a parent, really) or someone who has just moved on in life. It could apply well to either situation and the pain and longing that can be summoned up by going back to a place that once meant such happiness and joy.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup*This was my favorite part:

"I came home the old road today,
Driving slowly into the past.
It seemed to me the only way,
To cause this day to longer last."

This reminded me poignantly of a house that I left when I sold it. I have not been back there, although a neighbor sends me yearly reports on what is going on. Although I have been frequently up into that area, I never go by my parents house.

This touched a personal chord with me - I guess we all bring our own baggage to the station when it comes to reading and interpreting poems.

Very well done, indeed!

*Cow* I saw that the entries were listed on the Newsfeed and I decided to read and review before voting, as that seems like a fair way to go.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think one has to love and lose in order to find one's way to that which is meant to be. If a love is found and won too soon in life, it invariably does not last. I do not know why this proves to be true time and time again, but it is.

We stumble our way to heaven, I guess.

The picture is awesome.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* This is my favorite part:

"She is not me, nor am I her, but one thing I do know,
The lines between do daily blur as our hearts fully grow."

Brilliant, that love which does not seek to change, only to appreciate one's other half.

Bravo!

*Cow* I saw the entries posted in the Newsfeed and decided to read them all before I vote.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* The haiku you have fashioned is very well titled. I like that each line has four syllables, that works out very well.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup*Sometimes you don't need a lot of words to say that something is important and it will last forever. You just know it, it is like breathing. Thus, the title.

*Cool**Idea* This is a poem about times when the love thing doesn't quite work out the way we might have hoped or planned.

*Thumbsup*This was my favorite part:

"Asking not for as I crash with Earth,
A flower to my sound.
We’re quiet. We know.
Love was my goal."

When a person has truly cared or loved, there is no big explosion except the one that is internal. Those who throw fits have their own demons to slay. The pain, if really felt is something that has to be conquered alone and in the quiet. I think you capture this notion quite splendidly!

*Cow* I am reading all the entries in the contest before I vote - they were conveniently linked a couple of times in the newsfeed this morning!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*I admire the title and you have certainly conquered the art of the sonnet construction with the iambic scheme firmly in place. Your poem flows very well, read to oneself and read aloud.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup*This was my favorite part:

"I lie beside you in the morning light;
the play of shadows, soft upon your face,
illuminates the source of my delight
that even time's harsh touch cannot erase."

We were just watching the PBS drama, Victoria, and there is a scene in that which reminds me of your poem. It is a tender scene with her and Albert when they are first married. Youth and beauty are captured for all time.

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I was looking in your Blog City Journal and saw an interesting entry that I missed in my reading adventures!

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Beauty vs. functionality. I'm with you, I'd go for both.

The perfect example you listed is about the cars.

I have a car that works and is reliable. It is almost 13 years old. But it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the GPS stupid stuff. As long as it gets me where I want to go, I will hold on to it. Mr. hooves says maybe a new one is in order. But it works and I do not want a new car with a push button start. It is bad enough that Mr. hooves car has this thing where you put the whole key apparatus in a slot and sometimes it does not cooperate with me. His is an Audi. Well, mine is a good old Toyota Camry and I will hold on to it as long as I can do so.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* Your desk sounds very nice. We needed new furniture and finally I talked you know who into going to Lazy Boy. That is a great place to get comfortable furniture that is pretty too.

What good is it if no one wants to sit in it. I got a love seat too. Well it's good to like the things you sit on and look at. What's the point in not having nice stuff if you can afford it. I have some old things of my mother's that I look at and think of her. But I use them too, so that's the best of both worlds I guess.

Great entry, as always, Megan.

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You sent me some nice reviews recently, so here I am to read about why humans say, "Holy Cow."

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is not surprising to me that this is biblical. I always think there is magic in the herd. Something that cannot be defined. Driving through Ireland, motorists stop for sheep and cows. They yield the road to them because there is something that is there.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* If people behaved more like cows, it would be a better world. Most cows don't try to boss each other around and they are kind instead of mean. That is a choice to be made in the animal world, too.

This was amusing to learn that there is a source for this. No one ever says, "Holy humans" do they.

Rest my case.

*Cow* I am paying you some reading visits and you sent me some very nice reviews in the past week. Now, I am combing through your portfolio, reading your fine work. I especially like the title of this one and the name of the hill in question. It's magical and drew me, as a reader, in right away.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* Who doesn't have a guy they dream of dancing with? For a while mine was sort of indistinct, too, until I met the right one. Well, it's good to have an idea of that in your head. Dreams are funny things, aren't they?

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This part, in particular, captured my imaginings:

"Losing ourselves, in the art of dance,

The spirit and I, what a wonderful romance."

For some reason, this made me think of Princess Diana dancing with John Travolta at the White House. How romantic that was and how far removed from that so and so she was married to. Fantasies involving dance lead to lovely poetry here

*Cow* You sent me some nice reviews recently, so here I am to read and review some of the items in your portfolio. I like the title of this one, especially and the description.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is sad as it is written from the point of view of someone observing an elderly man going through his paces as he misses his life partner so much. It flows along very well and I could picture him making his way to his destination.

Such devotion is something that melts the heart, I believe. I think it is a rare thing more and more with the self absorbed world around us.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"Revisits a thought of her forever young face,

That vintage wedding dress covered in lace.

Under the willow as the blue birds sang,

Arm in arm as the church bells rang."

I always remember my wedding day as the happiest day of my life. This reminded me of that and of how much I love my Mr. hooves.

Brilliant poem!

*Cow* You sent me some very nice reviews recently so here I am to visit you! Congratulations on your Quills nomination! That is an honor that you richly deserve for this wonderful tribute poem for a beloved Dad.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I thought about my own Dad. I was a bit older than you, but my Dad died suddenly during the Christmas season also. It changed everything when he passed. As you indicate you were eleven at the time of your loss, I cannot imagine how hard that was.

I never could imagine life without him and it all changed just as I knew it would. This brought that back, along with a few tears.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

This was my favorite part:

"That smell of tobacco, a hint of old spice,

His rattling of change, it's all so nice.

His check woollen coat, a collar of fur,

I remember his clothes, his face a blur."

My Dad smoked and he rattled his change, too. What is it with men rattling their change? Smelling the smell was the hardest thing right afterward. Now, I find it comforting.

Lovely poetic tribute - I wouldn't change a thing if I were you.

I basically do what I enjoy when I'm ready to do it as I am sort of set in my ways a bit. It's nice to have such wonderful reading to look forward to here.

I enjoyed my visit with you today!

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*You sent me some very nice reviews recently, so here I am to read and review in your portfolio. This item was at the very top so I decided to read this essay first. It was written about different forms of Baptism and discusses the legitimacy of each.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think your writing is straightforward and articulate. For the most part, syntax is excellent and you make your points concisely and with examples to back up your arguments. You are very open to different theories and beliefs as long as the person asserting them backs up those assertions with Biblical referencing. That seems abundantly fair to me.

I noticed after that first section, in the 4th paragraph down from it, you have this:

"Those who do, neither agree on what manner of water baptism is acceptable and appropriate."

I would change this to read:

"Those who do, disagree on what manner of water baptism is acceptable and appropriate." *Check*

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I like the fact that you embrace different ideas. I would expand it to embrace all religions that work for the betterment of mankind. I am a believer, but I don't necessarily believe that my religion knows all the answers. It's just the one I was born into. Interestingly my father was one of ten children. Half of the kids ended up one religion (of their mother) and the other with the other one. My father always treated people with respect, so his is the one I go with. However, I have found the actual church part of it to be somewhat lacking. It seems to be more and more about fundraising, which is unfortunate.

And, now that I have grandchildren who are half Jewish, I am even more open to different ideas and beliefs. I guess as we get older our minds expand or something. I don't necessarily think that Christianity has all the answers.

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You sent me a nice review in the past week, so here I am to visit you and review your work. I especially like that you have a list of items that you want reviewed at the top of your portfolio. It makes it very convenient for me the reader.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*The "pain" in the title refers to emotional pain. The words flow well and you convey the frustration involved with being hurt and not having anyone who cares. Maybe it is also the pain of being ganged up on. I am not quite sure if that is the intention to include that sort of anxiety.

I also think it is splendid to maintain the syllable count of seven per line - that make the flow of it very natural.

The reference to the fact that "no one cares" makes me think that this might be about a bit of bullying.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I like this part in particular:

"Everyone is against me;
I can now no longer fight.

When I speak no one listens
Hence, Khalish, I’ll memoirs write."

Writing is a great antidote to this sort of frustration. No one verbally understands, but through writing maybe a connection can be made. I am always sorry to have hurt someone, but the way I look at it is that the person feeling the hurt owns it. You can either confront whoever or work at getting over it and moving on. No one cares because everyone has their own things that they care about and feel hurt about.

If someone says something that hurts me, I still think it's more on me for letting that happen in the first place. But then, I am someone who shuts down the communication between me and hurting parties pretty quickly. I think that's more healthy than enduring abuse. People who name call and are mean usually have something going on that is making them unhappy that has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

That's what I've found to be the case anyway.

Good poem about turning to writing in times of turmoil and hurt. It's not a long poem, but really you said what you were aiming to say I believe. Sometimes, you don't need a lot of words to convey ideas. Length does not necessarily equate with quality when it comes to poetry.

Well done!

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*I saw you added to your Blog City Journal. I am a fan so here I am to read and send a review. Also, you sent me a nice review of a poem so here I am because of that, also.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I am not sure about the myth stuff. Grumpy cat sounds cute. My dog is grumpy right now because she knows it is time to have her ears cleaned. She won't come out of her crate and gives us suspicious looks all day. It has to happen for her own good, but she won't cooperate. I do not really know how to make that into a myth. Maybe if I gave her wings or super powers or if you give Grumpy Cat power to fly above what is making him so grumpy.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

On the world advice, I am clueless. I hope for the best and that things will happen to make things better. I wish that Congress wouldn't take so many vacations and recesses and retreats so that they could get something done to help people. We all have to work together and stop tearing each other apart because we disagree about something. It used to be that you could agree to disagree with someone and still be friends. Now, it seems, that people want other people to look at everything their way. Sometimes, that just isn't possible, but people shouldn't act like its the end of the world. I agree with you about trying to get along and get things done.

Good entry, as always!

*Cow* I saw that you had updated in your Blog City Journal and came to read and comment to you.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I think you do a lot for others at work and otherwise. You probably do more than 99% of the population when it comes to caring and being kind. You always lift my spirits here and I hope I remember to tell you that. *Heart*

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* I would get more attached to animals than people too. Animals are so direct and they don't manipulate situations like people do. My Boo always wants food and tries to get it all the time, so there's that. But I love the way animals interact with each other. That was good work you did with that lion. How many people would know to talk nice to him. I bet he appreciated that.

Very nice entry and I agree with the comment of fivesixer on it.

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* You sent me some nice reviews, so I was looking at the items that you have written and that you ask for reviews on the front of your portfolio.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* This is the story of a life full of achievements and also of the loss of a spouse. I am sorry for that. But you have done a lot, with the help of God. We all do what we are able to do, I guess.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I am interested in those four phases of life. I guess a person strives for these things, but sometimes some of us fall short. Still, it is good to strive and to have desires I think. Relinquishing desires sounds like a sort of backing away or easing away.

My Dad did not live long, but he lived well. Being one of ten children, he appreciated every good day he had right up until the very end. He's always been my role model, though, as you say, the resolution of life is always out of our hands. But the way he lived he would have been able to say he lived a good life no matter when he was called home, which is what we believe. That you are called home eventually. I'm not sure if we go home to do it all over again or what happens than. It's all sort of vague and unresolved.

It sounds like by any measure you are leading a very accomplished and rewarding life.

I don't really go in for resolutions much at New Years either. Usually I break them by the second week.

This was a very informative and impressive Dear Me letter.

Well done!

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow*I saw that you had added to your Blog City Journal and came to read and send a review. Plus you visited me recently with a nice review of my poem about my Mom.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* I remember having the Barbie's. My nieces ended up with them, I gave them all away. Once my brother talked me into giving all my dolls haircuts, including the Barbies. What a disaster that was.

For commercial's for toys, I remember the Barbie Dream House and car, but not the actual doll being advertised on TV. I probably just don't remember it. The very first toy I can remember is the game, Mystery Date. I remember the song and the whole thing very vividly. That was a fun game to play then.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

*Thumbsup* It is neat that you still have your Barbies. I gave my youngest niece's daughter a bunch of Barbies for every Christmas and birthday. She is 11 years old today. Now I am giving her art stuff. I didn't even check to see if she might still want the Barbies. Well, I will do that for next Christmas. Your collection sounds awesome. I think both my nieces had a lot of fun playing with my dolls though.

I still have a lunch box, but it's not a Barbie one. As for toys, I have little Snoopy toys, but that's about it. Well, I have cow parade figures that the kids and my niece give me. Still love collecting things, but the main thing is Vera Bradley purses now.

I do remember a Francie Doll in the Barbie series. I had a little Francie case for her. I'm not sure where she figured into the Barbie Hierarchy.

Another great entry of memories, Megan! *Heart*

What brought Hoovsie meandering in a space time continuum over to your port?

*Cow* I saw that you had added to your Blog City Journal and came to read as I am a fan. I will give you my thoughts.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea* That soup that you make in the crock pot sounds yummy. Is it with tomato base in there? I am hungry so now I will scrounge around for something inferior here. Yum Yum though for the soup - I hope you have some nice bread or crackers to go with.

Your days sound like fun, even the work days like you balance them out with things you enjoy.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I love Barnes and Noble, too, as you know. How long does it take to get to that Christmas Store in Michigan? It sounds like a lot of fun things to do even when you and your husband go together, like you balance them out.

Besides Barnes and Noble, I have a used book place I go to and sometimes Mr. hooves goes with me there. He's not too keen on Barnes and Noble because he likes to rush in and rush out whilst I am more of a browser.

I wanted to tell you that I got a book about Jane Austen at the used book place. It is called Jane Austen, An Illustrated Treasury by Rebecca Dickson. It is set up like a pretty scrapbook. I got it used for $3.60.

In it, it says something that might interest you for the Newsletter. Mark Twain was a harsh critic of Jane Austen and of Poe. Twain said a lot of nasty things about her writing, but it turned out that he never actually read her work. The idea of it didn't appeal to him and so based on that he criticized her because he assumed bad things about "women"'s book. What a tool. Sounds to me like Mr. Twain was jealous of her readership. He reminded me of people who say they cannot read Danielle Steel. She can tell a story and knows how to sell books and has a lot of readers. I think jealousy comes into a lot of unjust critics and reviewers.

Well, you might want to check out the book maybe. I am still going through it myself.
