Prompt: Where do you find the time? How do you make time for yourself in your daily routine? emergency prompt. Are emergency prompts a good idea? by Brother Nature for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS.

You cannot find time. You cannot make time. The only thing a person can do is take time because otherwise it will not be there. Sometimes you just have to let the dishes sit in the sink and do something for yourself or someone else. Will it matter in a thousand years if you let grass grow one more inch while you meditate or take a friend or family member out to eat. It will not matter to the grass but it letting the grass grow while you do something else may be important to your spirituality or relationships.

Take the time to say I love you either in words or actions. Take the time for yourself because sometimes it is important to tell yourself I love you. Take the time to do what is important, what will matter to your spiritual growth or the growth of a relationship.

Sunday, December 2, 2012 "Invalid Item prompt: It's Black Friday morning and the power is out throughout the city. Write the scene or story that comes from this.

This year, I didn't want to go to work on Black Friday. I'm not sure why, maybe it was all the turkey, dressing, and pumpkin pie I ate on Thanksgiving. All right, I should have known better then to go to a buffet on Thanksgiving or any other time. I always gorge myself when I go to buffets, especially on a holiday. However, since I didn't want to fix turkey at home and eating by myself in a full service restaurant is difficult, my only option was the buffet.

The alarm on my cell phone sounded at 4:00 A.M. I sit up in bed, turned off the alarm, and then turned on the light. I set there staring into the darkness and wondering if the bulb had burned out. I got up and maid my way to the bedroom door, there I switched on the overhead light, which didn't light up. About that time my cell phone ring, so I went back to the bed and picked the phone up off the side table.

"Yes, this is Mari," my boss was on the other end. She was in a panic, the electricity throughout the city was off and she didn't know why.

"How long will the store be closed," her answer was enlightening. She would open the store when the power came back on, which she hoped would be only an hour or two. That was six hours ago, here I am sitting in my living room with the front door and backdoor open letting the cool breeze flow through the house and staring at the message "low battery" on my cell phone.

I finished the chocolate ice cream that was in the freezer an hour ago. I still have strawberry and vanilla waiting in the freezer plus some frozen dinners. Since the power still isn't on, I'm presuming the issue isn't going to be resolved until late this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Note to self, when the power comes back on purchase a solar oven and a new cell phone with a solar powered battery charger.

Prompt for December 3, 2012: A New Normal and Emergency Prompt: The Perfect Holiday or Birthday Gift.

I am looking for a new normal!

The equilibrium
has shifted;
the scales are unbalanced;
yesterday's
reality dissolves
into a fog of shifting colors,
unfamiliar shapes,
and negative voices.

I am looking for a new normal!

What was
is no longer viable;
there is a missing piece
in the puzzle
of my life.

I am looking for a new normal!

I move forward;
I walk through dunes
of shifting sand;
the future
is concealed
behind a wall of swirling water
or is it fog
rolling in
with a tide of fear and doubt.

I am looking for a new normal,
which lies hidden
somewhere ahead,
around the corner,
over a mountain,
out out of sight.

I am looking for a new normal!

If I had the wings of an eagle
I could fly
high above the earth
and float on warm air currents
free
to go beyond national boundaries
and leave my pass port
behind.

If I had kangaroo legs
I could jump
over broken cement
or across busy intersections
without fear
of getting hurt
or worrying about a red light.

The December 1 prompt for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum by blainecindy is What is your most prized possession?

My soul is my most prized possession

The part of me
which eyes can't see
except
as the reflection
of rainbow scattered light.

Call it what you will
spirit
or soul,
a label only deepens the mystery
of the part of me
that lives eternally.

My soul
is my reality,
my physical body
the equine
my spirit rides
though matter's battlefield.

My response to the December 1 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS by Emily ~ What is your favorite December tradition?

I don't think I have a favorite December tradition anymore. When I was a child my favorite December tradition was Christmas dinner and diving over town to look at the houses decorated for Christmas. As I grew up, these changed. Mom and I eventually stopped celebrating Christmas, but we never stopped celebrating my birthday, December 24, and we still drove around to see the Christmas lights.

We stopped driving around to see the Christmas lights when Mom health begin to deteriorate, but we still went out to eat on my birthday. We stopped going out to eat on my birthday a couple of years ago when Mom physical and emotional health deteriorated even more due to the Alzheimer's disease. We still celebrated birthdays, but we did it at home.

This year, Mom is not around to help celebrate my birthday so I have to find a new December birthday tradition. I don't want to stay home and celebrate my birthday. I don't know if I want to go to the restaurant where Mom and I always celebrated my birthday or find a new restaurant. I would like to keep or go back to some of the traditions Mom and I did in December before she became too ill to enjoy them. I just don't know what to go back to and what traditions I want to let fall by the wayside.

December 24 is still twenty-three days away, so I have a bit of time before I need to decide how I want to celebrate my birthday. I will celebrate my birthday, but I will do it alone this year. I'll just have to see how everything works out between now and December 24, maybe I'll find a new restaurant or do something else entirely.

In Las Vegas, Nevada, it's still November 2012, but on writing.com and the East coast it's December 2012. My mother died on November 28, 2012; at least, I think it was November 28. For the past few days I've been in a fog, I have to continue living without my mother in my life and I don't know what to do.

I was born on December 24, 1946 at 11 minutes before midnight. This year will be my first year without my mother. I have to celebrate my birthday without Mom. I don't know what I'm going to do on my birthday. Mom and I always went out to eat on my birthday. That tradition stopped about a year or so ago when it become difficult for Mom to get out in public. When we stopped going out to eat, we would have pie and ice cream or cake and ice cream at home. I don't want to stay home for my birthday this year, but I don't know what I want to do on that day.

I will turn 66 years old without my mother being here to celebrate it with me. How do I celebrate my birthday without my mother? My mother has been with me on my birthday since the day I was born. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I know I want to go out because I don't think I could stay home on my birthday without Mom being in the house to share it with me. The question is "Do I go to the restaurant we always went to on our birthdays or do I find a new restaurant?"

I'm not sure what I'm going to do without my mother. I know I will survive, but I don't know how at this time. I think I'm afraid to face life without my mother. I'll be 66 years old and I'm afraid to face life without my mother. I know that sounds strange, but that's how I feel right now.

Writing/Blogging Prompt: "What do you think of buying lottery tickets or the people who spend lots of money on them? How many tickets are too many? Do you buy lottery tickets?" by Emily for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS.

Selling lottery ticket is an obscene way for a city, county, state, or nation to increase its revenue, because it encourages gambling. It encourages desperate people to spend hard earned cash on lottery tickets when the money is needed to buy food, shelter, or clothing for themselves and their family. It continues the myth of the big win, while focusing on only one aspect of life the material aspect. It implies that the only thing important in living a good and successful life is money and the things money can buy. It doesn't matter if the municipality uses the money entirely for its own purposes or gives a portion of the proceeds to charity, selling lottery tickets doesn't encourage good citizenship or spirituality in its inhabitants.

Buying one lottery ticket is too many because once a person buys a ticket then he or she is interested in seeing who wins. Once a person thinks that next time he or she will have a better chance of winning if two, three, four, five, etc. tickets are bought. Most people don't understand that no matter how many ticket they buy the odds of winning are stacked against them. Many people believe that the more tickets they buy the better their chances of winning and this isn't true.

No I don't buy lottery ticket, because I have better places to put my money then into the trashcan. I've always suspected that my chances of winning the lottery are the same whether or not I buy a ticket. If I'm going to waste my money on something then it won't be a lottery ticket.

Writing/Blogging Prompt: "What is one of your weirdest "at-home" remedies for when you (or someone in your family) is sick?” by Emily for {item:}.

Jalapeno peppers or horseradish, when I'm sick especially with a cold or the flue, I like to mix Jalapenos or raw horseradish with my food. They are hot and I think they drive out the cold or flue germs. This is a personal opinion, I don't know if there is any scientific basis to it, but I do it anyway.

Writing/Blogging Prompt: Emily's Enthusiastic Mondays!: Dreary Mondays need some prompted happiness to cheer up the mood. Each Monday, you will be forced to defend your enthusiasm for something you may or may not have any enthusiasm for whatsoever. Prepare to think on your toes! All prompts will be in the form: "I appreciate ______." This Monday, I would like you to defend you appreciation of hardship, adversity, or conflict.
Prompt for November 26th: "I appreciate adversity."
by Emily for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS

God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform. I'm not sure where that quote come from, I'm not even sure I've quote it right, but that expresses my feelings about today's prompt. I've encountered a great deal of adversity over the past few months. It seems to be one thing right after another. I know that one is supposed to be thankful in adversity and I'm don't think I've focus enough on gratitude in times of adversity.

I'm not sure how long the difficulties I'm encountering will last. Sometimes I think they will go on forever, but that isn't possible adversity like anything else has its time limit. Adversity can't last forever because eventually a person would just give up. When adversity occurs it seems like forever, it seems like it will never end; however, adversity does end and a person is stronger for going through it.

I just have to keep on keeping on and eventually this adversity will pass. Adversity helps a person get his or her priorities in order. When things are going smoothly we sometimes set the wrong priorities, but when confronted with adversity we learn what is really important.

Writing/Blogging Prompt: "Free Roll Sunday!" by Emily for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS.

On Saturday and Sunday, I had nurses come in from the hospice. On Sunday, the nurse said Mom is in decline. I don't know how much longer I will have her with me. I didn't get online Sunday because I couldn't write anything. I'm not sure I can write the, but I'll try. For the past couple of months things haven't gone will first the hot water heater went out and now Mom is in decline. I'm not sure that I can finish NaNoWriMo this year.

I don't have very far to go on my novel; however, with everything going on I think I'll have to withdraw and finish the novel later. I don't like the idea of withdrawing, I don't know what else to do. I don't think I can write more on this either. The only thing I want to do is set now and cry. I don't think crying will do any good. Maybe I won't withdraw from NaNoWriMo I'll see what I can accomplish tonight and tomorrow.

Writing/Blogging Prompt: If you were given the opportunity to rename the days of the week, what would you call Saturday and why? You can also choose any other day of the week except Sunday if you'd prefer to rename one of those. Please be explicit as if you were going to win a prize for coming up with the right name and thoroughly justifying it. by Wordsmitty ✍️ for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS.

I've thought about this prompt all day. I can't come up with any better name for a Saturday, Sunday, or any other day of the week then those in calendar used by the Baha'i Faith. Each day of the week is named after an attribute of God. Here is a list of the names, with the English translation in parenthesis and the day that is renamed.

         Jamál (Beauty) – Sunday
         Kamál (Perfection) – Monday
         Fidál (Grace) – Tuesday
         ‘Idál (Justice) – Wednesday
         Istijlál (Majesty) – Thursday

Writing/blogging Prompt: BLACK FRIDAY PROMPT: What are your shopping habits when going for gifts - early retriever, last-minute mania, online clickster, year-round collector, forgetful whatever, ... ? And does it work? by Wordsmitty ✍️ for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS.

For me this is Family Friday because Mom did not go to the Daycare center. The adult daycare she attends is closed on Thanksgiving and the Friday after Thanksgiving. Instead of calling it Black Friday, the daycare calls it Family Friday. Therefore, even if I did holiday shopping, I wouldn't begin on Black Friday. This week, Mom has been home since Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Mom lay in bed all day. She complained of all morning because she had to stay in bed, but she slept all afternoon because the hospice delivered the medication about noon. Thursday, she I got her out of bed, so that she could eat pumpkin pie and stuffing with green beans and chicken gravy. I managed to get her back in bed safely. Today, she is sleeping all day because her time up on Thursday tired her out, but she did get to see the Thanksgiving day parade.

As for my shopping habits, I don't do Christmas or holiday shopping of any type. The closest I ever come to this type of shopping is to go to the grocery store and see what type of specials they have for the holiday season. Since December 24 is my birthday, I might buy a birthday cake or I might make one. For New Years, I will buy black eyed peas and fix them in the slow cooker with a ham bone or maybe some smoked pigs feet; I haven't decided which one I'm fixing with the black eye peas.

Writing/Blog Prompt: What's your opinion on holidays? Too many, too few, should there be a consolidated list that the world should agree on celebrating? by Wordsmitty ✍️ for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS

To many people the words holiday and holy day are interchangeable; they use them to refer to both secular and religious days celebration on which work can be suspended on the day or days of the celebration or they can continue to work while celebrating. To me there is a difference, a holiday is a secular celebration which may or may not be derived from a religious event or celebration and which the majority of people in a nation celebrate. A holy day is a religious celebration that is commemorated by the adherents of a particular religion.

Thanksgiving, while it was originality created to give thanks to God for the pilgrims survival, is a secular celebration that is commemorated by all Americans whether or not they believe on a single God or multiple gods or do not believe in either. Thanksgiving is the one day each year that many people stop to count their blessing and give thanks to whom soever the believe bestowed those blessing on them.

As long as I am not forced to celebrate a specif holiday, I do not care how many holidays are proclaimed. What I would like to see is people respecting the holy days and holy books of all religions. I does not matter if one believes in the religion that celebrates that holy day. Showing respect means one does not stand in the way of someone celebrating their holy day and does not destroy another religions holy book. One does not have to believe in a religion or even in God to show respect to those who do by respecting their sacred days or sacred objects.

An example, which I hope applies to this entry. I knew a woman who suspended work on Saturday. I was talking to her one day. She was upset that other people in the neighborhood did laundry and hung it out on the line on Saturday, which was here weekly holiday. However, most the other people in the neighborhood consider Sunday as the day to suspend work. Everyone in the neighborhood knew that she did not do any work on Saturday, so they made sure they did not ask her to do anything that resembled work on Saturday. They were respecting her day of rest by not bothering her with work on that day.

Writing/Blogging Prompt: Talk about travel you've done or will do. The good, the bad, or just your opinion about traveling. Any mode acceptable including space and two or four-footed. by Wordsmitty ✍️ for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS

Holiday travel has changed over the centuries. At one time people didn't travel very far from home because they had to use a horse, wagon, donkey, or some other type of transportation that depended upon either walking or using an animal of some kind. Traveling in this way was dangerous and time consuming because the further from home the went the greater the chance of encountering thieves. It took weeks or months to travel across the country using horses, camels, donkeys, mules, oxen, or on foot. Now traveling across the country or the world takes hours, so people can go anywhere over the holidays they can afford.

The danger in holiday travel has change because today instead of simply worrying about thieves you also have to worry about terrorist. However, danger has never stopped people from traveling over the holidays. The biggest barrier to holiday travel is time and money rather then danger. Most people give little thought to the danger involved in a holiday trip, but it is there. If you drive a car there is the possibility of a flat tire or breaking down and having these things fixed is expensive, but most people don't worry about this because the have faith that they will get to their destination safely and with little difficulty.

When space travel because common place then people will be able to travel from one planet to another over the holidays. There will still be dangers, so of the same dangers we face when traveling from one point to another on Earth. There will be different danger because with space travel you have to worry about meteor strikes or failures in technology. These things won't stop people from traveling during the holidays. Because the biggest barriers to holiday travel are time and money, these two remain constant.

Contrary to what the title may imply my biggest thrill wasn't sky diving, but I'm combining the two prompts into one entry because I'm lucky to be able to get one blog entry written.

Writing/blog prompt: Thrills. For Tuesday the 20th, discuss what you've done that gave you the biggest thrill or what you want to do for your next big thrill. No need to limit to amusement park rides. There's bungee jumping, white water rafting, jungle tree swinging, and many adventure things available these days. by Wordsmitty ✍️ for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS.

What was my biggest thrill? Riding in a helicopter. Several years ago during a convention that was held in Las Vegas, I rode on a helicopter. It wasn't a very long ride and it didn't go to Hoover Dam, as many helicopter rides do today. This ride took us over Las Vegas. It flew over the Las Vegas strip and those in the helicopter saw the hotel-casinos from the air. The city looked so much different when looking down on it then. The streets and highways appeared to me to be straight rivers running through man made mountains. Ever since then, I've considered sky scrapers and tall buildings as mountains made of steel and glass.

November 20, 2012: The topic is skydiving. Would you do it? Or have you done it? for "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum.

First, I'm not sure I understand why the sport of jumping out of a plane with a parachute fastened to one's back is called skydiving. The skydiver is falling to the ground or water below, not falling toward the sky above. Would I go skydiving? It sounds like something I would like to do if I knew how to pack a parachute, but I'm not sure I'm willing to trust my life to a chute packed by someone else and I don't know how to properly pack a parachute. Therefore, I might or might not go skydiving if given the opportunity. I would have to think about it for a few minutes, at least that's what I think today. Of course, if given the opportunity I would make a spur of the moment decision, which means I probably would go skydiving.

I mean it can't be any more dangerous the some of the other things I've did in my life. I know it's probably not as dangerous as closing one's self in a refrigerator during a game of hide-and-seek, which I did when I was a child. I would like to think I would go skydiving without any qualms, but what I would like to think I'd do and what I would do are two different things. I suppose it would depend on the circumstance at the time the opportunity presented itself.

Prompt : This Thursday will mark the American Thanksgiving Day. How do you spend the day? How do you give thanks? by Brother Nature for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS

How do I spend Thanksgiving 2012? I will spend the day being grateful. At this point in time, I don't know what were going to eat for the Thanksgiving Feast this year. I know we will have vegetables because I have a nice selection of canned veggies in the cupboard. That is the only thing I'm sure we will have today. This may change between now and Thursday, after all there is always the chance of a miracle. If nothing comes up between now and Wednesday, I will either go to the store and purchase something or figure out how I can fix canned chicken on Thursday.

How do I give thanks? At this point in time, I plan to say the prayers for Praise and Gratitude in my prayer book. I will also compose at least one Thanksgiving blog entry. Thanksgivings isn't the Feast that occurs, but the gratitude expressed to family, friends, and God. It's the knowing what we have on our gratitude list and expressing the gratitude for life itself.

Prompt for Sunday, November 18, 2012: Free Roll. By Brother Nature for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS.

"The days dwindle down to a precious few,"
The sky takes on a grayish hue,
The year draws to a cold end,
Already we feel winter's wind.

Twenty twelve will soon be past,
Will this be the planet's last?
Or will the new year come again,
For new resolutions to begin.

In winter thoughts turn to death,
Humanity contemplates its last breath,
But the New Year always comes,
Followed by spring's first blooms.

We can't let winter thoughts depress,
Or cloud the joy our souls express,
When a winter dawn ignites dark clouds,
Burning away fears charcoal shrouds.
