Review of Why Me?

Very credible story.

We cannot guess how life leads us on through the avenues of time. All that is required of us is to attend to duty and serve the purpose with sincerity. In your case too, I see the same pattern at work.
You have told us of the your experience of changing Why me into why not in a meaningful way. We do have many doubts regarding why certain things are happening to us. If we have a little patience we do get all the answers and the pieces of jigsaw puzzle fall neatly in place.

Your selection to the job too is quite a wonder. It is our clean mind and unprejudiced attitude that help us win odds and come out turning the corner successfully.

Well-narrated story.

Review of The Hardest Poem

Hi
I am really touched by the account of the mother and her pain of being separated from her children.Nothing is more torturous than living with your children away.

Your prose passage as well as the rhyming poem elaborate the pangs of pain you have been suffering from. Some couples consider to patch up and live together for the sake of children. This doesn't seem possible in your case.

This poem is quite reaching out. If your children read it, they would certainly share your love and pain. The poem shows the amount of attachment and affection you have for your kids.
Imagery of the rhyming verse shows the kids and their mom enjoying Easter, shopping in the mall and the fun of holiday.

The note of desolation and hopelessness comes through loud and clear.
It leaves me thinking that certain situations are beyond us. Best is to leave it to God and time.

Brief and crisp glimpse into history.
I am impressed by the information presented in this Acrostic.
The history of war is outlined and the result of which was freedom from colonization.
I can see it was a huge battle and sacrifice of life was enormous by the troops.

They had a strong motive and a great leader, commander and statesman like Washington. He was indefatigable and inspired the army to be equally so, till they achieved success.

Written very well indeed.
Thank you.

Hi Megan,
This is a wonderful note on Jane Austen. I have been watching "Lost in Austen" and I started thinking how thrilling an idea it is to be imagining Austen's world, her novel Pride and Prejudice.

You have shown what it means to think of the world of Jane Austen.

It is by mere co-incident, that I came upon an online course by the University of Southampton named
" Jane Austen:Myth, Reality and Global Celebrity"

So far, it covered her residence including Chawton, Southampton and various opinion of famous people like, Charlotte Bronte, E.M.Forster and Virginia Woolf and so on.

I am really excited.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge of Jane Austen.

In other words, you are looking for paradise on earth without the serpent. The idea of deleting all sorrows, memories of pain and regret is perfect. But, that I think is possible only for angels. We need to become angels first so that we can handle that powerful wand with which all the negative things get erased forever.

This poem shows the amount of undesirable things we have around us in this world. In a way it helps us to understand why we are not able to achieve cent percent happiness.

"I would stop my unpleasant desire"

Curiously, every second line has a key to solve the problems.
"If I could control it,
....
If I could manage it,
........
If I could get rid of it,"

I suppose if we could get to work on the above possibilities, then total happiness is not far away.

It flows well.

What a memorable experience!it is such tidbits that make life ever fresh and happy. Just imagine the sense of satisfaction both the mother and daughter must have had after they got the exclusive couch into the apartment. I should shout for the daughter for her indefatigable energy and intent to get it home.

The fifty dollars looked like a bonus after the tiring expedition.

The story is nicely penned and more interesting because it is from reality and not fiction.

Language and style appeal to me.

Review of Nothing

Breaks occur
when there's
no respect or
consideration
between the partners.

This poem brings out the essentials that need to be put in place before you decide on a relationship.
It nurtures on care and consideration, on love and bonding both physical and mental, mostly in the heart and soul.

This looks like a "found poem" which shows how the poet found it as the partnership started cracking and showing breaches in life.

Lack of respect and love can demean one's self for both. That would be disastrous to all concerned.

Nice poem with meaningful repetition of certain feelings.
"I am nothing to you,
I am nothing to me."

I hear injury to self, anger at the way things turned out and helplessness in repairing the situation.

It flows well.

Hello Jatog,

The tips you offered are practical and helpful.

Each one takes time and time well spent. I favor writing reading and learning. Like joining a free online course or learn a new language.

Talking to friends and elderly relatives also appeals to me. We can share our ways of living during this trial period.

Carona virus gives enough food for thought as it is.

Your poem with its prompt words is quite inspiring and pretty suitable for the present global situation.

Good luck for the contest.

Hello Baker,

I find this nice poem quite attractive and chose to review it for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations on the completion of another year at the WDC. Have a lovely day!

I see a lover much devoted to his sweetheart in this short but sweet verse. I think most women would like to have a man in their lives who cares for none but her.

"It is only because of you
that I care"

Short lines and few words spoken sincerely to avow and assure her of his undivided affectionate care.

Imagery shows a firm mind and utter devotion.

This is how I feel at night when it drizzles, gradually giving way to a light rain. Harmless lulling rain is very welcome in comparison with rain that lashes at the windows and thunder that sounds like a threat to our existence.

Poet's imagery and thoughts are true to life.
Rain's quality is shown in a winsome opening line, containing answers to what, how and when.

"A passing shower taps lightly at my window
in the dark."

The possibility of a torrential rain and its outcome find a visual image.
"before some raging storm
pulls a tile or a slate from the roof,"

It is realized at the end to enjoy the present, and leave the rest to time.

Free style poem flows well.

Review of Rain is gorgeous.

Rain has its thrilling moments. It brings pleasure to the farmer and the city workers busy in their cubicles. It is mostly pleasing no doubt, especially after a scorching summer.
That being said, there are those like the poet of this very spontaneous verse, rain is viewed as a gift from above, a gift that brings unadulterated pleasure to body and soul.

I agree with the poet that rain has special attraction. It is a form of an element of nature and a source of life, water.

Imagery is super special in this poem. Through word pictures, the poet is able to the bring the falling rain on hills and dales to our minds. It includes his frolicking self as well.

" I slipped and slide across the muddy path, leaving deep gorge behind."

The last lines, refreshingly explain the scientific matter behind rain.

(This is rainy season in India. Intermittent rains make our days cool and pleasant with the mountain ranges looking green carpeted and a hovering grey cloud cover.)

Engaging prose with poetic tones.

I think the prompt words are well used and with economy. Brief and to the point, this poem shows how a joyous day is celebrated. July 4 happens in summer, all the more reason to celebrate a life of independence, outdoors.
It is like Thanksgiving, an outing, a get-together, barbecue, fire works and food to enjoy. Perfect holiday.
"Wash your hands. Let's eat!"
Title is quite vocal.

The air of bonhomie is well created and the note of inspiration is unmistakable.

Visual imagery and a tone of celebration together bring out the colors of Independence to the fore.

Free style poem flows well.

Reunion with the old flame in a beauty clinic is least expected though we are told that Jude was in town.
Looks like there comes a time when people feel compelled to return to old familiar places and people, for reasons of their own.

This tale of love is well written with a small town background, where every one knows what is happening in others' lives.

The milieu and the mindset of the people are mirrored well.

The end has the unexpected twist and it has the reader completely surprised, because Summer has not been mentioned anywhere else.

Good move.

Except for the fact that we don't know what happened to either of them during the five year gap, it is an enjoyable story.

Setting is the best element in this story.

Interesting observations on various versions of "Cinderella". The original version, I believe, was created by an English playwright, Daisy Fisher. Since then, there are innumerable versions of it from many countries.

Your findings show a lot of research and reading the archived books which treasured these valuable versions of the ever popular, "Cinderella."

When it comes to movies, once again I find a number of them. Recently, I saw "Cine-house Cinderella", which is beautifully molded to suit the modern society.

The analyses you made regarding various points of importance are interesting. It shows your patience in studying the texts with care and concentration.

Thank you for sharing.

The past and the present are linked through art work. Both Thomas in 1920s and Bella in the modern day seem to have inexplicable bond with each other. Thomas's bench must have been a really sturdy one to have appeared in the tv show in which Bella was interviewed for her own famous painting.

While Thomas had no way to get publicity for his piece, Bella could succeed in becoming famous due to social media.

This story also shows the importance and value of modern technology especially as in mass media.

Well penned.

Hello Werden,

I have picked this meaningful story from your port to review for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations on completing another year at the WDC. Have a wonderful day.

This story has great relevance in today's world where attractions are fickle and love has no place in a relationship.

Harry must be a very sensitive person, who hadn't expected Lisa to walk away from him. His depression and disappointment are shown pretty well. Emotions are well mirrored.
The way James suggested to get over the past was ideal.

Harry did the right thing to follow his advice and it worked wonders. So, physical activity and going out among people is the best therapy to retain sense and be practical about life.

Title is absolutely suitable.

Language and style make the story quite readable and engaging.

Fine poem. It speaks of the season as well as the mental climate. Summer can be cruel in many parts of the world. We in India, also have humidity and humid winds accompanying the high temperatures of summer. Weather alone is enough to drive people crazy. God save those with personal problems too.

I like this poem because in its brevity it captured the theme in precise terms. While the first two stanzas speak of the physical impact of high summer and the rain that follows, the last one shows the advantage of summer rain.

"To take away what makes me mean,
Just simply means that I’ll be fine."

What a relief!(sigh!) All it took was to wash it away with a wave of good thoughts. Wonderful poem with fine word choices, metaphors, visual imagery and that which appeals to mind as well.

Rhyming verse flows well.

Hello Normajean,

I found your brief biography interesting. I am reviewing this piece for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations on being creatively active for one more year at the WDC. Have a wonderful day!

The details you furnish us with are quite different from the usual biographies I have read. The difference is that besides talking about your life, you also tell us about the places you have lived and a little bit about the family as well.

I do admire the way you and your husband planned your life before and after retirement. I can see the important point of serving the community as well.

"We fill our time volunteering in the community"

Language and style are a draw.

This rhyming verse brings the joys of "first snow" to my mind. The exhilaration and excitement of playing with the snow is incomparable. Each season has its own charm. The white snow is a class apart. The cold, the chill in the wind and the warmth generated by the woolens can only be experienced.

" Freshness of the air
Crispness of the snow"

Right choices of words describe the atmosphere quite appealingly.

It flows well.

Short and meaningful lines reflect the impact of first snow on you.

Review of I Don't Do Poetry

You told us why you don't do poetry and realized you did it after all.
The thoughts and emotions you have expressed are enough to do a poem, which you did.

It shows how convenient a vehicle poetry is to mirror emotions, an important element of human beings.
What is life without emotions anyway?

And what better way to show it than poetry.

Wordsworth's opinion on poetry hits the nail on its head.

"Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings. .....emotion recollected in tranquility.'

It gives a lot to contemplate upon.

Thank you for your praise of poetry. Your style of stating an unexpected truth at the end is the twist in the tale(tail?)
It flows well.

The story is engaging as I read through it.

What I was wondering about is whether she had enough reason to feel enraged at the outcome of her extra-marital affair. When she stepped into illicit relationship, she had no reason to feel righteous indignation when her boss turned out to be more practical backed out. In fact, he saved her marriage by not encouraging their liaison any further.
she has no case for revenge.

Hello Kaiser,

I read this wonderful story (nonfiction?) in your port and decided to review it for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations on being a creative member of the WDC for one more year. Have a great Anniversary!

This road trip covers a whole journey of life with the partner, perhaps your better half. It began like any other journey, with the two strangers getting acquainted by and by. The bumpy road was not a challenge but a welcome path to start with. Attraction between the two is clear and present.

And then, the tune changed to a more sober lyrics.

"Suddenly, without any warning, the paved road became rocky, muddy, winding, unexpected changes in the grade."

Half way through, they start facing the hardships of the journey. But the love they found kept them going till the load increased with two kids included. Yet, the journey continued, life being something that wouldn't let you pause till it finds the peace it seeks.

Moving the family to new destination is also on the charts and so we see them going for a place that holds bright future for them all.

Great job showing the evolving and becoming of a happy family through the allegorical road trip.
Appropriately captioned as "Sunset", it is a fetching account of life.

I have enjoyed contemplating on it.

Interesting write!

For a kid to imagine climbing Mt. Everest without the least idea of its height (290029 ft)and the perils of high velocity winds atop the mountain and smooth sheets of snow covered slopes.

Of course, it was an exercise in imagination with an intention to introduce an "exciting adventure".
It is pretty humorous too.

" the planting of the family flag on the summit not far from where Hillary's flag.."

The story shows how the power of imagination was given a chance by attempting such writing exercises. It brings out the point regarding what interests the pupil.

Events are nicely shown.

There are no language obstacles, much to my reading comfort.

Hi there,

I picked this wonderful essay to review for your WDC Account Anniversary. Congratulations on completing another year of creativity at the WDC. Have lovely day!

Your essay on life and death and how to celebrate the time in between is totally inspiring. Life is a gift no doubt. If more people recognize it, the world would be a much better place to live in. They would realize how important it is to live well and in joy. There would be less depressed or angry people around.

To be remembered after death needs to work on. One should be patient and listen to others' and be sympathetic in the least.

" To have a “remember when” get together with each person adding their unique pieces of my life’s puzzle to the others. "
Great line on life's philosophy, the ultimate goal of life.

Wonderful essay. I have learnt a lot from it. Thank you.

Review of Last Words
Review by jaya

This story shows that we do not know how and when inspiration strikes the writer. What is important is to look for it and when it presents itself, grab it. The pastor is wise in noting her last words down. They told him a story and his writer's block disappeared like magic.

The description of the block and its eventual disappearance are well shown. The restlessness almost edging on to frustration is convincing enough.

"I banged my fist on the desk, rattling a mug containing the cold dregs of an early coffee brew and knocking a pen onto the floor."

His fumbling with the prayer, by the dead lady's bedside might be because of the rushing excitement of hearing her last words.
"Watch the clouds."

Looks like to him, his writing ambition is more important than his pastoral duties. The young man was right, I thought.

Great story mirroring the mind and behavior of a writer.

Prose flows well.

Thank you for an interesting story.
