Dauphin could see a tavern just down one of the streets. Here she would at least be able to find refreshment, and maybe some additional information about her new home.
Murmuring a few brief words of reassurance to Sarian, her faelan, Dauphin left the creature outside near a trough of water. There was no point in securing the the faelan, as they were far too independently minded to be bound, and besides few thieves would be able to match one in strength and intelligence. She entered the tavern alone.
Adjusting her eyes to the light, after the darkness outside, Dauphin could see the tavern was half empty. The occupants were mostly male, and in uniform, obviously guards who had recently come off duty.
"What are you doing in here?"
Dauphin turned to look at the speaker. It was a large man, obviously highly inebriated.
"I'm looking for food," she replied.
"You're a woman. No women in here!"
A man behind the bar responded nervously, "Now there's no rules that say that..."
