Despite several times of nearly bringing out and using the shrink ray, Jack managed to control himself and his classes, albeit very boring, went smoothly. He went back to his dorm mid-afternoon and just hung out. Jack did some homework for a little while, then watched TV, then was just on his phone for a little while. It was a standard afternoon. When 4:30 rolled around, Jack got a text from Nora. "Still meeting up for the movie? Or are you just as lame as Emerson?". Jack laughed and texted her back. "I'll be there, don't you worry. Someone has to make sure you don't stink up the whole theater with your idiocy. On my way to your dorm now". Jack put his phone in his pocket, grabbed his wallet and keys, then left the building. When he exited, he realized that he still had the shrink ray in his pocket.
"Oh crap..." he moaned. At this point, Jack was too lazy to go all the way back to his dorm and put it back, so he continued onward to Nora's dorm. When he got there, her and Andrea were waiting outside. "About time, damn. You weren't roofied, were you? You're just now getting your mind back?" Nora joked. "Hardy har har, you're hilarious. Next time you want to invite me to a movie, how about you be more courteous about it?" Jack fired back. "Whatever. Come on, let's get a move on, can't miss the commercials" she said. The three walked out to Andrea's car, then got in and drove away. "So, what are we going to see?" Jack asked. Andrea briefly looked back at Jack through the mirror. "I don't know yet, we were thinking of some sort of comedy or action, if there's one of those available" she answered. Jack nodded. "All right, that's cool".
The fifteen minute car ride to the movie theater was a quiet one. Despite Nora and Jack giving each other lip before the ride began, not many words were spoken in the car. When they pulled into the movie theater, it was 5:15, and the place was busy. "Wow, for a Thursday, this is a little shocking," Nora put in. "Yeah, probably because you're not very good with getting out socially," Jack snickered. Nora glared at him, which only caused Jack to laugh more. "Hey, you settle down, you asshole, or we'll dump your butt in the middle of nowhere. Don't forget that we're the ones with the car". Jack quieted down and exited the car. "Okay, okay, I'll stop. But you need to loosen up a little there". Nora didn't respond to that remark. Instead, she led Andrea and Jack inside to the ticket box.
"Three tickets to Joy Ride please," Nora spoke to the employee. "That'll be $12.50" the employee responded. Jack and Andrea gave their share of the bill to Nora and she paid for all three. The employee thanked them and wished them a good time in the movie. "Theater 7, huh? All right, this way," Nora pointed. The three walked together, then opened the door to the theater. To their surprise, it was a little empty. "Wow, considering the parking lot is so jammed, you'd think there would be more people in here. Guess we're lucky," Jack thought aloud. Nora snorted. "Or unlucky. If a movie isn't bringing in any viewers, it probably isn't worth the money or time". Jack groaned and Andrea giggled. "Whatever, let's just go find our seats," Jack said. The trio made their way to the middle of the theater and set up camp in what they considered the perfect spot.
"All right, here we go," Jack said. "Oh, you know what, I'm going to go get us some popcorn, do either of you want a drink with it?". Both of the girls shook their heads, but thanked him. "All right". Jack left the room, got the popcorn and a drink for himself, then came back and sat back down between the girls. He handed the bucket of popcorn to Nora after learning Andrea didn't want any, then focused on the movie.
