Mouse was lying on her bed when she heard the first pebble knock on her window. She quickly hid under her pillow a magazine that, if found, would've made Mrs. Salt quite concerned about her daughter's developing interests.
She threw the hinges open and squinted into the darkness.
"Psst. Over here."
Mouse's eyes fell on a frightened yet hopeful face, dimly lit, covered in white paint and sweat.
Although her older sister would vehemently deny that Mouse could possibly share any of her natural detective instinct, the younger Salt sister actually possessed a latent set of natural detective gifts of her own.
For one thing: she had an AMAZING memory for faces. "Smiley?"
"Mouse! I ran from him! I'm free! Now he can't tell me what to do, we can tickle each other whenever we want..."
"Psst! Quick, get in here!"
Mouse was spinning on a revolving chair, trying to assess this new situation.
"So...He doesn't know that you are here...That's good..."
Smiley nodded, hopefully.
"First things first. What'll need to do right now is to..."
