This choice: to another destanation outside of the cave • Go Back...Chapter #2to the Dragon's Graveyard by: Levi Blau Sir Eric awoke slowly, his head feeling like it was filled with swirling water. As the blackness of sleep withdrew from his mind, his memories of the fight with the black dragon returned. Remembering his finial moments before blackness took him brought him fully awake. He opened his eyes and sat up quickly, but then fell back to the ground with blinding pain ripping through his skull and the entire world spinning around his head.
"You might want to move a little more slowly." A voice said from behind him. "The transference spell usually leaves one rather shaky for a while, though I admit I have no idea what happens for a human. As far as I know its never been done before."
Fighting against the pain and dizziness, Eric turned to look behind him. Lounging against a wall on the other side of the cave was the black dragon.
"You!" Eric spat, part of him noticing that his voice sounded off. "What did you do to me?!"
"Exactly what I said I would. I've given you the chance to experience life as a dragon."
Eric blinked at the dragon, not understanding, but then several things slowly dawned on him. First, the the dragon didn't seem quiet so large as he had been before. Second, that the entire cave seemed brighter than before. And third, that he was still lying on his side with his back to the dragon, even though he was looking straight at it.
With a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach, Eric looked down at himself . . . and saw the massive scaly body of a dragon.
Fear and anger in equal measure flashed through Eric and he leaped to his feet . . . or he tried to. First, he smashed his head into a low hanging stalactite, causing bright spots of light to flash in front of his eyes. Then he tripped over his own tail, sending him tumbling down into a pit filled with oddly shaped objects that clattered and poked at him.
Above him, Eric could hear the dragon chuckling. Anger flashed through him again, and he started trying to untangle his various limbs, but then he froze when he found himself staring into the empty eye sockets of a dragon skull. slowly, Eric lifted his head and looked around. The pit he had fallen into was filled with dragon bones, each one of them seeming to gleam to his newly altered sight.
"What is this place?" He asked.
"Ah, welcome to the Dragon's Graveyard. You should feel honored, no human has ever set eyes on it before."
"Why did you bring me here?"
"I created your new dragon body here. You see, we dragons can create a new body from the bones of out ancestors, and then transfer our souls into it. Its how we seem to be immortal to you humans. I simply created a new body, and then transferred your soul into it."
"Why? What do you hope to gain from this?"
The dragon sighed.
"You monkeys are obtuse, aren't you? I want to give you the chance to live as a dragon, like I've already said twice. As for what I hope to gain, well I've got my reasons, and they're staying mine for now."
"Maybe I should kill you now then." Eric growled as he dragged himself out of the pit. "What to keep me from doing that, huh?"
"Well for one, the fact that until you figure out how to move in that body you're only a danger to yourself. And for another, the fact that I have this."
the dragon moved his claw, revealing Eric's body lying on the ground.
"Don't worry." It said before Eric could speak. "Your body is still alive, and i can send you back at any time. However, it won't live long without food and water, and even if it gets that, it will still slowly wither away from disuse. To stop that, I've placed under a spell that will preserve it just as it is until you take up residence again. That spell is tied to my life force. If I die, then you will be trapped in that body forever, and you'll get to watch your old self wither away and die."
The dragon waved a claw over the still form and it vanished.
"But that's enough of that." It said, getting to its feet. "Come on, let's get out in the sunlight and get a proper look at that new body of yours."
Lacking any other ideas, Eric followed the black dragon - tripping over his own feet every few steps - through a twisting maze of caves and finally out into the clear sunlight on the side of a towering naked peak. The black dragon stepped far enough away from the cave mouth to allow Eric to exit, then he turned around, sat down, and studied Eric thoughtfully.
"Well," he said after a moment, "it looks like your a indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
