"A black dragon, with power over night and darkness," the dragon said finally.
Eric looked at his own body, glittering in the sunshine. It looked as far as he could tell to be identical to the one standing opposite to him. Another flash of anger went through him. "And I suppose that you think that you're clever, changing me into the same type of dragon as you," Eric said disdainfully.
The other dragon only chuckled. "We dragons don't choose our breeds; we are what we are. If you had been born as a dragon, you would still be a luneater, like me."
"Luneater? What does that mean?" Eric asked, though he already knew the answer.
"Surely you don't think that we dragons go around calling ourselves only by the color of our scales? That would be stupid, and rather rude as well."
Eric glanced sideways. "I see," he said simply.
The other dragon nodded him over with a turn of his head. "Come here, I want you to see something." He turned away and began to walk. For a moment, Eric considered not following him, but he remembered that the retreating dragon possessed his body, and if he ever wanted to get it back, he'd have to listen to the other dragon for awhile.
Against his better wishes, he followed the dragon to the edge of a nearby precipice to find:
