Eric sat in the nothingness, listening to the cave sounds outside his own little world. He'd been inside the egg for many, many years, though how long, he did not know. At first, he had rehearsed who he was and why he was here, every day, counting the days, which turned into months, then years, ten, twenty, fifty, even one hundred. He kept counting, desperate to keep his mind, as he had felt something in him desire for love, from his mother, a powerful, mighty dra--
Eric shook himself, telling himself that he was human, that those thoughts placed in his mind weren't real, that the dragon who placed him here was NOT his mother. After all, he had been placed in the egg of a dragon, not turned himself into a dragon, right?
Then, the doubt started. What if those thoughts weren't as foreign or artificial as he thought? What if they were real? What if--
Movement froze his thoughts. Something above his egg was shifting, he could feel the heat coming from it change, but Eric dared not guess what it was, considering the implications. Then, the heat was gone. No, he thought, not yet! He immediately silenced the unruly thoughts, telling himself that even if 100 years had passed, he was still-- the world surrounding him was growing cold, and it was starting to grow smaller. The tough egg shell contracted around his body, and for a moment, Eric feared strangulation. I'm gonna die, he thought sadly. He felt difficulty breathing, and it started to choke him, no air, no air, no...
The egg shell wall cracked, letting in some air. Eric took in some deep, wonderous breaths of air. The egg continued to contract, and it cracked around his body, eventually cracking completely away, releasing Eric, who flopped over in exhaustion.
His eyes were closed, but he could hear something stirring nearby, and the something was big. Eric knew who it was, and he wanted to move away, but he knew that he couldn't, his legs wouldn't respond. He was covered in disgusting embryonic fluid, and he couldn't see a thing. His eyes were sealed shut, and the only thing he could do was flop around, like a broken toy doll.
The large presence moved closer, as Eric's struggles to move came closer. Something began pressing in the back of his mouth: his body was urging him to open his mouth. No, he thought, I won't, I won't be crying out like-- Sudden contact on the top of his head surprised him, and his body released the squeak he had been fighting to hold in. Stupid body, he thought.
"Hello, there, my baby," the mother dragon said. "You're hungry, I see." She snorted for a moment, something Eric realized was laughter. "Oh wait, you {i{can't see~" She broke out into outright laughter, a deep, rumbling sound.
"Okay, I've had my fun," she said before moving in very close, no, too close. Eric felt warm breath on the side of his head, and he tried to lean away, but his body would not cooperate, simply flopping over to the other side, as the dragon approached closer, amusement evident in her smell. She licked his eyelids, unlocking them, allowing Eric to open them gingerly.
What he saw when he looked up made his heart both leap in joy and stop in terror. The entire world above him was taken up by the dragon, her black scales taking up his entire field of vision. A small peep emitted from his mouth, once again unwanted and unbidden.
The dragon spoke, her nose pressing against his. "Oh, how good to see that my new baby can see well. It's always nice to have a new--
