Chapter #4Male by: Unknown "It's always nice to have a new drake hatch." His mother, no, the dragoness said as she looked upon the wrymling. Eric looked up and tried to glare at the dragoness, but all that he accomplished was rolling over to his side and a squeak.
"Damn!" Eric thought to himself.
The dragoness chuckled. "Oh that's right. You don't what a drake is. A drake is a male dragon.
Eric began struggling as his mother, no, his enemy leaned closer...right? As much as Eric hated to admit it, just seeing the larger dragon made him feel safe and loved, but she was his enemy, right?
Suddenly the ground began rumbling as heavy footsteps from another dragon drew near. Eric began stumbling to his feet as a male dragon with white scales entered the cave.
"Home sweet home..." The male dragon said as his eyes trailed to the confused wrymling. The dragon smirked as he looked upon Eric.
Eric's mind swirled as part of him wanted to run up to his father, no, the black dragon's mate and part of him wanted nothing to do with either of the dragons, yet the voice of the white dragon sounded calm, loving, and eerily familiar.
"Darling, how was your hunt?" The black dragoness asked.
"Couldn't have asked for a better day," the white dragon said. "I bet our son is hungry. I have just the thing for a growing drake."
The white dragon left to go bring Eric some food. Eric's belly growled causing him to squeak in confusion. The dragoness chuckled as Eric tried to stand on his legs and run off.
"Patience little one. Your father will be back with you food in a minute," the black dragon said. "However, we must get you cleaned up my child. I want to see color your scales are. That goop from the egg you hatched from is hiding your true color."
"What does that dra... Mother mean?" Eric thought.
Mentally, Eric tried fighting off his new draconic instincts, but his sense of self began to slowly fade away. His core beliefs about protecting humans and slaying evil dragons remained, however he began to crave the attention of his parents. His strong mother and mighty yet gentle father.
As Eric followed his mother to a pool at the far end of the cave his father brought in the carcass of a giant bull and followed closely behind. Once near the shimmering pool Eric leaned forward and fell in.
Eric began panicking as he struggled to reach edge, almost in danger of drowning. Luckily he grabbed onto a ledge and was assisted up by his mother.
"It's alright. Mother and Father are here little one," the dragoness said.
"Hey Mesindra, shouldn't we give our young drake a name. Surely, his original human name would be foreign to him by now."
Eric squeaked in protest. "I do have a name! It's ...What is my name and what's a human? Are they friends and when can I play with them?" Eric thought as the last of human memories faded to nothing leaving only a curious young dragon with a curiosity for humans.
"Good point Barthaxar," Mesindra said. "We shal call him... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
