Chapter #5

A strange book.

"Pikachu! Hey- huh?" Ash looks down, puzzled, as his Pokemon inspects a rectangular object on the ground. A book? Ash looks around, but doesn't see anyone. And yet the book is too clean and undamaged to have been out here for more than a few hours. He picks it up and sits down, angling it so that Pikachu can see it down as he examines it.
"Oh look, Pikachu! You're on the cover!" Indeed, A Pikachu's outline is on the cover of the book, and made of an odd substance that seems to shimmer in all the dark colors of the spectrum. Pikachu felt a shiver go up his spine as he looked at it, but Ash didn't seem to notice. He opened the book and puzzled at it. The words were written in a language that neither of them understood, so he tried to piece it together from the random illustrations. It didn't help that they were all highly stylized. He did find one drawing that made him laugh, and he showed it to Pikachu.
"Look at this! I think these people used to worship Pikachus!" Indeed, the figure of a Pikachu loomed over human-shaped worshipers, who bowed in total supplication. Pikachu smiled weakly, then scowled when Ash turned back to the book.
Why was it so absurd that a Pikachu would be worshiped? Pikachus were powerful! They were mighty! They were... small and cute. He sighed to himself. The truth was, he almost looked forward to Team Rocket's constant pestering because they made him feel special, like he wasn't just a small electric rodent. Even his best friend saw him as nothing more than a little buddy and a shoulder pet. Pikachu fumed. He bet Ash would respect him a whole lot more if Ash was the one sitting on HIS shoulder! In fact, there were a lot of things he would do with his human if he had the chance... He grinned evilly. As much as he liked, even loved his friend, Ash was the kind of human that you just wanted to toy with...
"Hey, Pikachu!" Ash's voice snapped him out of his reverie, and he looked up guiltily, as though Ash had detected his dark thoughts, but Ash was just pointing to the book again. "Isn't this weird? In all the drawings, the Pikachus look huge! Look, this one's twice the size of a human, and this one is bigger than a house."
"Pikaaaaa..." Pikachu agreed. It was weird. And strangely enticing...
Ash continued to flip through the pages, then scowled. "Aw, someone messed up the drawings...!" Someone had spilled ink onto many of the drawings, obscuring parts of them. These were the drawings that were across from pages of the foreign text, and the ink stains looked much newer than the rest of the book. Ash continued to read, he began to notice that words had been written on the sides of the pages; notes and translations.
His lips moved as he read, and he tried sounding the stranger words out.
He didn't notice how Pikachu's eyes glazed over, and his form started to glow.
"Man, this is really weird, Pikachu. ...Pikachu?" He looked over, then gasped and looked up. PIkachu had grown!
He was...!
