Chapter #3

The cowardly lion

    by: Unknown
Your legs began to tremble and your breathing began to waver a bit as your body washed over with fear. Over the few seconds available to think you had come up with two choices; help the family of innocent dragons or to help your own kind. You did not have long to think on this as burning flames spewed out of their maws and the heat extended toward you. You ducked towards the closest impression in the cave and hid. In the distance you could hear a few men scream and the bellow of a dragons roar.

'You will not succeed this night!' A distant, mysterious voice unlike your own rolled through your thoughts. Gulping, you lost control of your stomach. Relieving yourself of your meager lunch, you toppled over like a weak tree and passed out.

You awoke some time later when the screams of the soldiers eventually died out and almost instantly were slapped with regret and fear. Where was the Captain? Is everyone dead? Across from you was the burnt body of a solider that attempted to crawl his way to freedom and was quickly denied by the large beasts. The smell of the dead body tossed you further into reality and you stood up. Quickly regretting that action, you nearly fell back down from the soreness throughout your body. Recovering to the best of your ability, you slowly made your way closer to the inner caverns.

Charred remains of Weapons and armor littered the grounds. Throughout the area you found a gruesome sight. It appeared that none of the group you were in made it out alive. All fourteen men, were either charred, broken or split open. This, to your slight relief, also included that sadistic captain. 'Serves you right you wretch.' Figuring the dragons had won the battle, you sighed with relief. Your actions at least were able to spare an innocent family during this damned war. Leaning against the rock wall of the cave, you smelled the air. Only the copper smell of blood and burnt flesh entered your nostrils and you nearly vomited again. Looking behind your rest area you try head out but see a large dragon standing watch outside the entrance. Freezing in place, you try to think of what to do.

Alright, these creatures either spared my life, didn't notice me, or thought i was dead... alright scratch that last thought, dead to them seems to be maimed beyond recognition. I could try to speak with the one out there, but how am I to know they didn't just miss me in the assault? Gah! only othe roption would be to go further in the cave and hope for a way out... long shot at best... Damn it what now!

You have the following choices:

1. Head out and reason with the big guy.

*Noteb*
2. Try your luck heading into the cave.

3. Screw it stay put. It's safer here.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
