Screw it stay put. It's safer here.

You tried to shimmy further into the small crack in the wall, you didn't have any energy left to use magic to widen the crack.

"I wouldn't bother. I know you're there young wizard." the Dragons voice chimed in a resonant double laid tenor, a female voice full of wisdom and calm. You were transfixed, you knew you should be scared but her voice was so soothing you couldn't feel afraid, it was as though you'd been numbed by her speech. You tried to say "I mean no harm" but the words wouldn't form, your tongue lolled resolute in your mouth, an uncontrollable and alien muscle.

"I know you're peaceful child. Don't you think you would be charred beyond recognition if I did not see your honesty?" She turned to face you now, though you knew you should be impressed by her vast size, or by her scales and color, or more importantly her teeth. But all that drew you were the intense black eyes.

"I, I, wha..?" you managed to splutter out.

"I can here your thoughts mage." You stared back blankly, her mouth hadn't moved an inch and you knew then that the strange double laid tenor voice you heard was in your mind.

"I don't mean you any harm, I thought you were a military base." you thought back hopefully.

"I know, i thank you for saving my child." she bowed her great opal head

"How are you speaking to me, dragon?"

"I can communicate with you through mental speech because you empathize with our family. You show compassion child, why are you in the army?" her eyes turned to slits, and you found yourself able to see the question in her face quite clearly.

"We were recruited, my friend Felix and I. We didn't choose to be. Why is it that you are not fighting against us?" you thought back.

"I have just had a child young one, it gives you perspective on life and slaughter. One that you seem to grasp already. You shall be great you know, many dragons fear the wizards who have mercy. Our kind find it difficult to fight what is pure at heart."

"I don't want to be pure just to fight others! I'm not a weapon!" You spoke this time.

"And that, is why it will be your greatest one." she nodded slowly.

"Goodbye Trent Godfrey. I hope your journey fares well. We shall cross paths again, I will know your face."

"WAIT! I DON'T KNOW WHERE I AM!" you shouted to her retreating form.

"You will find your path child." and with that, she left the cave and flew into the air with the other male. Seeing no other option, you notice that they left the egg.

'Why would they leave there child? She obviously loved it so... wait, maybe this is why she said I will see her again.' Determined to right your wrong of attacking this family you decide to protect the egg from harm. If the dragons trusted you enough to let you live and even leave you alone with their young, you would not let them down. If only you knew what to do now...
