Last night, as I put the finishing touches on my story for today, the Microsoft software on my desktop took a nosedive. I’ve spent several hours trying to recover from the errors, all to no avail. So, to the shop it goes. ~~~ Read the full post at https://jjshaun.com/2025/03/23/oopsie/ |
The wind howled through the peaks of the southern Dragonspine Mountains, carrying the fury of the coming blizzard. Far below, in a valley nestled between two great ridges, the village of Thorne’s Hollow sat like a topaz on the snow-covered plain. The villagers, accustomed to the harsh weather of winter, were well-prepared for the storm. ~~~ Read the full story at https://jjshaun.com/2025/03/16/the-final-storm/ |
Dense, tropical heat hung in the air, heavy with the scent of saltwater and damp earth. The sun hung low in the sky, casting its golden rays across the town nestled at the edge of the sea. Waves crashed against the shore. The slow susurrations against the sand, a reminder of nature’s unwavering pulse. ~~~ Read the full story at https://jjshaun.com/2025/03/09/the-taste-of-denial/ |

Dyann stood staring at the vast expanse of grass stretching before her. The sun had risen enough to melt the lingering frost from the grass. On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, my partner and I trekked down to Denver to take part in a protest against the actions and policies of the new American government. The 2025 Day Without Immigrants was brought about by grassroots organizers to show The Powers That Be (TPTB™) that real Americans are affected by the draconian “America First” misogynistic and racist policies being implemented. ~~~ Read the full post at https://jjshaun.com/2025/02/09/standing-up-for-america/ |
Biscuit arrived at the door first, sitting patiently on the stoop, tail tapping the ground. Lyryk caught up to him, catching her breath as she raised her hand to knock. Before she had the chance, the door swung open. An old woman with silver hair and kind eyes stood before them. ~~~ Read the full story at https://jjshaun.com/2025/02/02/lyryks-song-part-two/ |
Frigid wind howled through the twisted trees of the southern Dragonspine Mountains. Its icy claws ripped at anything daring to venture into its depths. An unbroken gray sky cast the world in muted light. Deep, powdery snow covered the path. ~~~ Read the full story at https://jjshaun.com/2025/01/26/lyryks-song-part-one/ |
Kithleigh Nightmane had always been small, even for a halfling, but she’d learned to use her small size to her advantage. Her quick hands and sharp wit had always been a source of pride—though she rarely showed it. In the village of Oxbow Landing, where every stone had a tale and every tale a shadow of its own, Kith found that the fewer people noticed her, the better. She’d spent her days sneaking through the back alleys, taking things that weren’t hers, and disappearing before anyone noticed. No one ever suspected her—a youngling from a respectable tavern-owning family, with little ambition beyond keeping the business profitable. ~~~ Read the full story at https://jjshaun.com/2025/01/19/running-from-the-past/ |
Alyssia crouched in a bramble patch, her cloak blending with the shadows. The wind carried the scent of pine and damp earth, but a far more interesting scene compelled her attention.
