Brief insights into my writing world. |
I started my blog in June 2016, intending to have a place to get my stories in the hands of readers. I started with one follower -- my wife. Seven years later, I am creeping toward 500 followers. I post a daily quote, as well as short stories, vignettes, and updates on our rebuilding project. You can find my Tavern Tales at: https://jjshaun.com/ Enjoy! |
Imagine our surprise when all meetings with Mr. Contractor fell through this week. All is not lost, though. He hired a reliable sub-contractor who will get the job done. Read the full post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/05/07/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-134/ |
Theoretically, Mr. Contractor will be on the property tomorrow to get some additional measurements before getting started on the rest of our building. Theoretically. I’ll believe it when I see it. Read the full blog post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/04/30/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-133/ |
It’s getting harder to update the same ol’ post every week, but here we go: No progress on our house—still. Read the full blog post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/04/23/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-132/ |
It seems Mother Nature can’t quite make up her mind. Last Friday, it snowed most of the day, and we got a few inches of the wet, heavy white stuff. Most of it had melted by Saturday afternoon as the daytime temperatures warmed up once more. Read the entire post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/04/20/warmth-at-last/ |
Two-an-a-half years ago, my wife and I lost our home to wildfire. I've been blogging about our rebuilding journey ever since. Here is my latest update on our progress. *** We woke up to snow yesterday morning. Again. Of course, by the afternoon, it was gone again. Welcome to Springtime in the Rockies, my friends. The group left Suncall early in the afternoon. They made their first camp at the spot where they agreed to meet Geordo. The man had moved on to Irewick, according to his message marker. Read the full story here: http://jjshaun.com/2023/04/12/the-road-to-irewick/ |
Nine-hundred and four days ago, I lost my home to wildfire. Here is my continuing story of recovery from that disaster. https://jjshaun.com/2023/04/09/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-130/ |
Two weeks ago, we were looking at having a dry access road by this time. Mother Nature, apparently, had other plans. Winter wants to hang on tight, and spring keeps pushing back. Consequently, our weather pattern is on a roller coaster. Also, being downstream from California puts us in line for the crap left after the storms dump on them. Yesterday, I updated my external blog with a memorial to the friends and family lost so far this year. ### The beginning of 2023 has had plenty of bittersweet memories, and it’s only March. Late last month, I heard from a young lady I used to babysit. Her dad passed away. Her dad and my dad were the best of friends when I was growing up. We’d lived in our little town on our dead-end road for maybe a year when the family moved in down the street from us. Hail and well met, all. My name is Jae, and I have a writing problem. Seven years ago, I created a blog to showcase my (very amateur) story writing. After three years of stutter-starts, I was laid off from my bleeding-edge, high-tech writing job. I knew that being in my early 60's would prevent me from retiring from that career, so I turned my writing skill to fiction. Then came 2020 and covid and wildfires. Life turned upside down, and I turned to my blog to help process our losses. I hope you enjoy my musings and stories. Tavern Tales at https://jjshaun.com/ |
