He had finally caught up to her and was about to cross the finish line when they both heard a voice that stopped them dead in their tracks. "ISABELLE! What in the world do you think you're doing!? Get off that horse and into some decent clothing."
"Oh great, race called on account of my mother," Isabelle whispered under her breath. Daniel tried to stiffle a giggle.
"What was that young lady?"
"Nothing mother," as she showed Daniel a funny face then put on a polite smile for her mother.
"I would have beaten you if it wasn't for your mother," gloated Daniel while he hopped off his horse and went to help Isabelle down.
"No you wouldn't have, I was just letting you catch up."
"Stop dawdling Isabelle."
"Sorry Mother."
"And you Daniel, you should know better than to indulge a young princess like that."
"Sorry your Majesty."
"I'll sneak out later and we can finish this race, Daniel."
