I was pulled out of a dream - something about the guys who bullied me having something karmic happen to them - by Mom shaking me awake. "Up and at 'em, sleepyhead," she said. "It's time for you to get ready."
I pried my eyes open a crack, and looked at my alarm clock. "It's barely past six o'clock," I moaned. Then I sat up. "Was that really my voice?"
"It is now, sis," Kathy said. "Now, come on; you've got to get a move on."
"Girls have a lot to do to get ready in the morning," Mom said. "And, since you're a girl now, so do you." She gave me a bottle. "Your new shampoo. You'll find it adds body to your hair."
I shuffled my feet as I went to my bathroom. When I turned on the light, I was amazed by my reflection; specifically, the fact that I was wearing a teddy, and just how well I filled it out.
On a whim, I stripped naked, and took a good look at myself. The stuff that had been attached to me last night blended almost seamlessly with my flesh; if I didn't know where to look, I would never have been able to tell that any of this wasn't part of my body before. I liked the way the panties that made it look like I had female genitalia also made my butt look bigger.
But those were thoughts for another time. Right now, I was on a deadline. I washed the beauty mask off. Then, I washed my hair in the sink. I liked the way the new shampoo smelled, too.
Kathy came in, with some pink razors. "How you liking it so far?" she asked.
"I haven't been thinking much about it," I replied. "What's with the razors? Dad already gave me some."
"But we girls use the pink ones." Using a damp washcloth, she got my underarms and shins wet. Then, she put shaving cream on them. "Start shaving."
I began to shave, using quick, gentle strokes. Even so, I cut myself more than once.
With that done, Kathy brought me out to my room, where Mom was waiting with some new clothes for me. "Looking good, sweetie," she said. "Let's get you dressed in your own things now." She handed me a pair of panties and a bra.
The panties went on easily enough; but the bra was a struggle. But I finally managed to get it hooked on.
Next, Mom gave me some Secret deodorant, so my pits wouldn't stink. After that came a lavender top with the words GIRL POWER! written in a rainbow of colors, and a pair of cutoff jeans. A pair of pink socks finished the look.
"Now," Mom said, "let's give you a real makeup tutorial; not like your trial and error last time." She guided my hand into putting on the makeup properly.
When it was done, I said, "I thought what I did myself made me look beautiful."
"You were always beautiful, sweetie: This just highlights your best features."
"So, what's next?"
"Next is breakfast."
As we walked to the bedroom door, Kathy asked, "Did you pick out a name?"
"I think so; I remember someone in my dream calling me Linda."
"Alright," Mom said, "Linda it shall be."
At the kitchen table, Dad was eating. "Good morning, girls," he said. "You got a name picked out?"
"She picked Linda," Mom answered.
"You're as pretty as a picture, Linda."
After breakfast, there was a new pair of girls' sneakers by the front door. As I put them on, Mom brought a suitcase. "Here are your clothes for the trip, Linda. When it's time to wash your clothes, you can mix and match them, to create a whole new look."
"Thank you all so much. Is this everything?"
"Not quite. There's one more thing." Mom gave me a purse. "There's spending money, a compact, a smart phone, and some gum in there. There's also a supply of tampons: You won't need them, but you can always give one to some other girl who's come up short."
