This choice: Girl bonding on the road • Go Back... The tune had a country vibe, and I found myself tapping my feet to the music, to the bemusement of my traveling companions, as they recognized the song. It was called "Even The Bulls Fear Me" by Kansas Princess:
Tough country boy won't leave a girl be
Thinks he can control little old me
He's got one warning til he'll be getting a bill
that his ego can't pay
I'm taking what my daddy taught me, not hold back on this so-called man
He thinks I'm a fragile flower; he's never been a farmer's hand
One punch will send him flying and he will finally see
I'm not just a pretty face!
Even the bulls fear me
While the music continued to play, Barbra and Michelle talked to me about what to expect as one of the girls on their vacation in Santa Monica. Their serious looks made me rather nervous. "Why do I get the feeling I am about to get The Talk?"
Barbra giggled. "Even though you don't have to worry about some of what is in The Talk, you still need to know what to look out for when it comes to boys seeing you as a potential score on their ego."
That confused me. "A score on their ego?"
Michelle smiled. "You are innocent to a fault; that's why we like you. There are boys who keep points, so to speak, on girls they talk into having sex with them."
I wrinkled my nose. "Ew..."
Michelle nodded. "As a girl, you will need to watch for boys trying to isolate you from your group, so to better lure you into their control."
I gulped at that. "I had seen a few boys from school trying to do that to Kathy."
Kathy kept her eyes on the road, but replied, "That's why we girls try to move in groups."
Barbra placed a sisterly hand onto my shoulder. "Try to stay with us wherever we go; there are boys who will resort to dirty tricks to get to you."
Now I was slightly afraid. "Like how... ?"
Michelle shrugged. "Slip something into your drink to drug you; offer you hard alcohol to get you drunk fast... "
Barbra sighed. "Outright rejecting a boy, no matter how polite you try to be, will often upset them, and a few will get physical."
I frowned, hearing that. "I know how to hold my own in a pinch."
Michelle smiled, bemused. "We are not saying that you don't,... girl. We are just warning you of what to expect. No one knows us in Santa Monica; the boys will just see us as a group of girls out on a vacation without a date."
I sighed. "So, to them, it will be open season."
Kathy giggled. "Pretty much; but it goes both ways."
I shook my head. "Ew!"
The girls laughed at that, and Kathy said, "Welcome to the girl's club, Linda."
