NASA, the ESA, ROSCOSMOS, CNSA, nearly every nation's airforce, defense agency, even the odd person who happened to look at the sky within that moment was alerted to it. Fascination immediately turned to terror as a realization set in. Not only did extraterrestrial life exist, not only did extraterrestrial life have the capability to appear undetected until it was visible in the sky or, arguably more terrifying, travel at a speed so extreme that it essentially teleported so close. Any and every attempt to contact these aliens coincided with every nation taking up arms, preparing to give a middle finger to the potential threat before the inevitable extermination.
Christmas Day. December 25th, 2022. 00:12 GMT. Earth became wrapped in a bright green light, blinding every person on the planet, regardless of their location. Even those sheltered in bunkers hundreds of meters below the surface, without any sort of windows, were blinded.
Christmas Day. December 25th, 2022. 00:14 GMT. As the green light faded, the alien spacecraft was noticeably absent. However, it was equally apparent that humans as a whole had been altered. Immediately, everyone had their own theories. That the aliens had taken their actions as an attempt to alleviate boredom, that their actions were a "test" on humanity, that it was merely an experiment, an attempt to disrupt humanity, and so on and so forth.
The question remains: What exactly did the aliens inflict on humanity?
