Meeting the Family

    by: BeeJay Author IconMail Icon
Dr. Daniels worked with me for three months, teaching me how to perform various tasks, and testing my memory. The longer we worked, the more pleased he was. After three weeks, he said, "By this point, seven of the previous models became defunct; you're doing well, #15."

"Thank you, Creator," I replied.

After six weeks, he said, "None of the previous models lasted this long. It appears as if I have mastered the positronic brain."

"Congratulations, Creator."

"But I must be certain before I reveal you to the others. Our work will continue down here."

"Yes, Creator."

After three months, Dr. Daniels pressed a button on the wall. "Is everyone home?"

"I'm right here," said a woman's voice.

"Here, Daddy," said the voice of a younger girl.

"Present," said the voice of a boy about the same age as the girl.

"Come down to the lab," said the doctor, "I have something to show you."

When they came downstairs, Dr. Daniels led them into the laboratory. "My family," he said, "allow me to introduce you to the world's first fully functioning android with a positronic brain."

"You've done it, Ian?" the woman asked.

"Indeed, I have. #15, I would like you to meet my wife, Katharine; and our children, Elizabeth and Lance."

"How do you do?" I asked.

"It really works, Dad?" Lance asked.

"It really works. I think it's ready for housework."

"I don't think so, Daddy," Elizabeth said. "I think it looks too much like it's come back to kill Sarah Connor."

"Perhaps a more human-like appearance is in order," Mrs. Daniels said. Turning to me, she said, "I'm an anaplastologist: it's my job to create realistic prosthetics for people who have been disfigured in one way or another. If you can tell me what you want, I can bring it to life."

The prospect of looking like a human piqued my interest. "The form of the human female seems the most aesthetically pleasing. I choose that." I also selected hair and eye color, after the Daniels family.

Making some sketches, Mrs. Daniels said, "Alright. When I'm finished, you won't believe your visual scanners."
