You and Natalie had been best friends since forever. You had always found her cute, but now that the two of you were 20 and going to the same college, she had become the most gorgeous person you knew. She was 5'3" with dirty blonde hair, piercing gray eyes, and a smile that could light up a room. Her sunny disposition made her instantly likable, and she loved to host parties at her apartment for you and a few other friends. Tonight was once such party. For weeks, you had been working up the courage to profess your feelings for her, and now seemed like the perfect time.
While you said goodbye to the last of the guests leaving the apartment, you stayed by the table fumbling with your coat to stall for time so you could psych yourself up. The table was a mess, strewn with playing cards and paper plates. Suddenly, Natalie poked her head out from the kitchen with her wavy hair flowing down to her shoulders. "You mind staying a little longer and helping me clean up?" she asked cheerily.
"Sure thing!" you replied, happy to help and secretly thankful for an excuse to stay behind.
"Thanks!" she smiled, "I'll pour us a couple root beers then I'll be back to help." She returned to the kitchen and you pulled on your coat. Before you could start cleaning up, however, something strange happened: everything went blurry for a second and you felt dizzy and a little nauseous. When your vision cleared, you couldn't believe your eyes.
-----
Natalie walked back into the dining room carrying two plastic cups of root beer, only to find the room deserted. She shouted your name, and when there was no reply her smile waned a bit. "Aw man," she sighed, "He said he would stay and help..."
