Chapter #5

Chrom the bite-sized prince

    by: Writetime Author IconMail Icon
Robin has grown accustomed to quiet dinners with her husband Chrom, but there’s something… off about tonight’s dinner. She can feel it in the air, and in the way Chrom is slowly eating his food. Nonetheless, she takes a bite of the stew she has made and tries to start polite conversation, “So, how was your day dear?” She drawls, and her husband's back straightens at the question.

Robin watches as Chrom lifts his head and fixes his eyes on her, “Mine was fine, what about you, Robin?” He asks gently, but Robin can hear the tension that lies beneath.
“Chrom you left for hours, and I didn’t even know where you were.” Chrom cringes at her words. He knows his wife means well, but he is acutely aware how easy it is to feel suffocated by a clingy wife.

“Day was fine.” Chrom simply says, and Robin is pleasantly surprised that his temper didn’t snap.

Robin nods thoughtfully, and her husband is relieved that she might let it go until– “But how did your matches go?” She asks, and Chrom sighs into his soup, “I-I was so worried, and–”

Chrom clenches his jaw as he shoots his wife a glare that makes her shift in her seat, “Why do you want to know how my matches went so badly?” He challenges and Robin lets herself settle into her seat a little further. She can already sense that there’s no way in which this argument ends well for anyone at the table.

Robin frowns at the venom in her beloved’s voice, “Because I care about you.” She argues softly “I always like to know where Lucina and Morgan are, and they don't mind.”

Chorm regards his sibling with distaste that she knows is unearned, but it offends her a little bit anyway, “Well, I’m not Lucina or Morgan.” He simply says, trying to continue eating his soup. "They are our children and I am not your child."

“You’re right.” Robin resigns, and Chrom lets relief flood him for a moment before his wife's words rip away the remaining semblance of calm at the table, “You used to always be by my side but now–”

The grandmaster at the table jump when Chrom lets his arm harshly clatter again the table as he lets an angry puff of air through his nose, “Well, I’m not a hapless lord, Robin” He snaps, and Robin is frozen in shock for a moment.

“You always call me my love or darling” She solemnly says, only fanning the flames in her husband's eyes.

“Why does it even matter?!” He huffs, “Just because my high jump is lacking doesn't mean I am helpless, so quit smothering me.”

Evidently, that strikes a nerve in Robin as she stands with watery eyes, “I am not smothering you.” She protests, “I am simply acting like your wife who loves you!” She waves her hand animatedly and a flash of light strikes from her and across the table to Chrom.

For a moment, it’s blinding, and one can’t see a thing but the bright white light coming from her husband's chair next to her. Then, as she blinks away the shock, to her retinas, she looks down to see Chorm. Except, she has to look way down, “Oh my goodness.” She gasps as she and Chrom exchange a horrified look.

“What’s going on?” Chorm asks, looking around wildly, “What happened? Why is everything so big–”

“Chrom, you’re small.” Robin squeaks out, utterly shellshocked.

Robin holds her head in her hands seemingly surprised by the turn of events, “B-But… how… I..?”

“I’m what?!” Chrom demands, but he stumbles back quickly. His scream as his heels scrapes the edge of the chair springs his wife into action as she catches him in the palm of her hand before he can make the steep fall.

“Careful!” She says breathlessly, lifting her hand to be face to face with her tiny husband “I have no idea how this happened, honey. I’m so sorr–”

Chrom sighs, cutting her off, “I know you wouldn’t do this on purpose.” He says, making Robin subtly gulp at this, “We’ll be able to figure something out soon, right?” He looks at his wife, and Robin can feel her chest burst with joy. He’s suddenly the same man who always looked to his tactician to make a plan to save the day.

“O-Of course.” She nods, “I’ll do a lot of research, and I’m sure in a matter of days you’ll be back to nor–”

“Days?!” Chrom gasps before sighing, “Well, I guess I will be in your capable hands dear."
"As long as I don't get smushed in my next match" he mused whistfully
“Don’t talk like that.” Robin squeaks out, cradling her husband. a little closer, nearly to her bosom, making him instinctually lean away, “I will keep you safe.” She says softly and Chrom simply shakes his head.

Trying to finish dinner came with its own variety of trouble. The man sighs as he sits in front of his bowl, leaning against it as he tries to take in the world around him. His wife look nothing short of frightening, and he finds himself feeling sorry for any bug he’s ever crushed. He’s sure now more than ever that they really are more scared of him than he ever was of them. Not that he has any plans on confessing any of this to the giant woman in front of him, especially not with the way his wife is shooting him worried looks every two seconds.
