In all honesty, Charlie had some reservations about coming through this town to begin with. First of all, his cellphone didn't immediately recognize the area, though he had initially waived it off as perhaps an oversight on the GPS. The only reason they had decided to stop off here was to make sure they had enough gas and food for the longer trek of the drive.
Newtown seemed to be decently sized. Certainly no Los Angeles or New York or anything but not tiny either. It only made him more confused at the lack of information he could figure out about the place. Still, the other members of the party wanted to stop so he went with majority rules.
But now, he was scared out of his wits, along with Tom and Grant.
"L-Lets get back to the car!" Grant cried out.
"But we didn't have much gas left," Tom reminded him. "Who knows if we'd make it out."
"Didn't that radio lady say something about not trying to leave?" Charlie asked, barely containing his own fear just to keep the group together. "Then again, it might just be a prank...."
"After what we just saw...I don't think we can take that chance.." Tom said, a hand to his head. "This....has to be some kind of nightmare..."
"There.... There's no way...Rick just changed like that...right?" Grant spoke up, almost sounding like he was trying to convince himself more than the others.
Charlie looked back down the street at the bakery. Rick, or rather "Charlotte", didn't seem to be pursuing them. "She" seemed to just be minding her own business, going about the bakery like anyone else would, which looked all the more bizarre with the lack of people.
Seriously, what was up with that? How could a town look so clean yet deserted? The more Charlie thought about it, the more supernatural it felt like. Not having gas or cell service made it feel like they were stranded.
"Okay.....we have to remain calm. Otherwise, we'll get nowhere," Charlie said. "Also, we need to be careful. Rick changed after eating that cupcake, so we might need to be weary of anything we see around."
"So, no food?" groaned Grant. He had gone the longest without eating.
"Afraid so," Charlie confirmed.
At that, the trio began moving as a brisk pace, hoping to find something to get them out of here. It wasn't easy though, as all of them kept getting these weird sensations every now and then, like something was beckoning them.
"It's like there are ghosts everywhere," gulped Tom. "Like something keeps grabbing me."
"Me too," said Charlie. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
