Emily takes him to a monster restaurant

Matt felt his breath catch in his throat when he looked down toward the ground and realized just how dizzyingly high up the two of them had gotten. They swept past the residential area where Matt lived and over the heart of the city. Something seemed to change in the air, and before long Matt noticed signs of other large creatures flying in the distance.

Before he could make out what they were, Matt felt Emily's grip shift, and the two of them swooped downward. The air rushing by roared in his ears, and he couldn't help but feel like he was falling. Thankfully, Emily's sure grip provided a sense of security even as a primal terror gripped Matt. They soon landed in front of an enormous building with an imposing set of doors, though after a moment Matt realized there were several sets of smaller doors set into the main pair that would let creatures of a wide variety of sizes through.

Emily placed Matt gently on his feet, and supported him as he struggled to find his balance. Once he was standing on his own, she asked him in a playful tone,

"Did you enjoy the flight?"

Matt didn't want to admit that he'd been afraid, and chose instead to say,

"Well, it's got to be the most exciting way I've ever traveled!"

Emily seemed to appreciate that, smiling as she gestured toward the door.

"Shall we?"

"After you, m'am."

"Such a gentleman!" Emily laughed as she pushed open the large door and led the way into a foyer decorated with lush plants, beyond which lay an array of candlelit tables. Sharp-dressed waitstaff pushed carts laden with dishes too large for any human, and a variety of monsters sat at various tables, speaking quietly amongst themselves.

Emily spoke with a host, a black-haired troll with gleaming white eyes and an imposing set of horns. The host looked up her reservation quickly, and Matt realized with a jolt that she must have planned this from the very beginning. When the host asked where the pair wished to be seated, Emily looked at Matt expectantly.
