Chapter #5

The Trek

"Damn it!" You cursed. You'd been walking for what felt like an eternity, the carpet's fibers acting as a sort of pseudo-jungle. A part of you wondered if this is what it was like for explorers and archaeologists when they went trekking through the wild. Probably? But you did really care about any of that. This line of thinking was only meant to distract you from your fear.

Fear that you would fail in your attempt to reach Jacqueline's room and retrieve the remote. Without it you were doomed to live the rest of your life as a speck. Truthfully you'd rather be dead than go through life like that. That wouldn't be a life, how can living in constant fear at the mercy of others constitute as a life? Simple answer: It didn't.

Another thing bugging you was Jacqueline herself. You wouldn't admit it, but hearing her accuse you of attempted murder against your own mother for money of all things, really stung. She actually thought you were willing and capable of taking another person's life. Granted you could see how she thought that after she shrunk you. She thought you were dead and jumped to conclusions without the facts.

Why didn't you hold onto the remote tighter? Why did you even show it to her at all? Maybe if you told her everything before showing her the device than maybe you wouldn't be here right now? Hindsight is 20/20 and right now you were batting zero. That was just your luck too wasn't it?

"Yeah. That's just my luck." You said aloud as no one would hear you. Thankfully you mother or other siblings hadn't come out of their rooms yet. The last thing you needed was people unaware of your miniscule existence running about. That would just make things a whole lot harder. Damn! You just wished there was a way to speed this journey up. Time was of the essence here!

Fortunately or rather Unfortunately for you, fate had other plans.
