Crime Doesn't Potty Train

Option 1:
So, you're fourteen and your parents died when you were really young, you were found by a crook who thought he could use you to manipulate people and get into tight spaces. Obviously he never had time to potty train you so you still wear diapers. Bruce rescues you and makes you his next Robin.

Option 2:
You're the son of a very wealthy family, unfortunately for you that means you're targeted for ransom. One small time crook manages to capture you as a little baby and demands a large sum for you. Apparently he didn't get the memo that not long after the couple was murdered, he's now stuck with a son that he's grown attached to. It's a shame he was too busy stealing stuff to potty Train you.
