Joker had wondered if he would feel more comfortable without the unsettling quiet of this unusual palace. As the rhythmic sound of heavy footsteps reached his ears, he realized that was not the case.
"Y-You all feel that too, right?" Noir asked. All of them did, in fact, 'feel that' as the 'city' around them seemed to shake and quiver with each vibration.
"Guuuuuys, this is usually the part in a kaiju movie where the monster shows up!" Oracle added, hoping that her geeky insight would help.
"There's no way we're fighting Godzilla!" Panther retorted.
Whatever was causing the thundering footsteps for sure was unknown, but everyone could at least agree that something very big was on its way, and if the group was being perceived as threats, then chances were good that it wasn't friendly.
Mona pointed to the school. "Everyone, this way!"
The gang nodded as they hurried up the plastic stairs to the interior of the school, seeking shelter from whatever was approaching. It was a childlike mockery of the real thing - the bulletin board was written in barely legible crayon, the furniture was covered in a spongy foam, and the classes for subjects such as art and music had been replaced with the likes of 'wiping your nose' and 'breathing.'
"This is how Kawakami-sensei views the school...?" Queen muttered in shock, watching as the doll-like Shadows continued about their business without any sort of response to the thundering footsteps and their growing intensity.
"They'll be time to psychoanalyze our target later," Fox said. "We should ensure our safety first."
The thieves shut the entrance doors behind them, whilst leaning up against the windows to see what had arrived within the 'playroom palace.'
"N-No way...!" Mona stuttered, looking up and up and up at their target.
Everyone was stunned at the sight before them. Kawakami's Shadow was in the middle of the streets outside, but she was simply gigantic. Oracle's previous statement about kaijus wasn't far off - the Shadow was level with some of the fake skyscrapers around her. Her footsteps hadn't left any dents in the remarkably durable plastic of the city streets, but Joker grimly realized that just one step was easily large enough to crush all of the thieves in a single step if she so desired.
And most importantly, the shadow was dressed as...
