"Dad is the head mad scientist." Softly, you replied. "He is the leader of the secret world of super science and chaotic energy. As his son, you are next in line for the throne."
"Then its a matter of pride for him." Sighing, Joe said. "What about mom?"
"Only girls can work magic but it is customary for a boy turned girl to become head witch." Serious, you replied. "Right now, mom is the next in line but because you are her only son..."
"She would like to see me succeed her." Moping, Joe finished. He moaned, looking miserable. "What a mess!"
"That's why all the hoopla, as you put it." Frowning, you said. "Both will be proud of you no matter what you decide but they both want to be the one to take you under their wing."
Joe began to sob. "I don't want to break this family apart!" Crying, he shouted. "I rather be normal than have to decide!"
"Normal is a relative term, dear boy." Cutting in, dad said. "I believe what you need is the means to make a more educated decision."
Joe paused, looking up at dad and nodded. "That would help."
Dad smiled. "Splendid!" Cheerfully, he said. "Your mother shall show you her little private corner of the house and then I will show you mine."
"You are letting me go first?" Surprised, mom asked.
Dad grinned. "I'm merely saving the best for last."
Mom rolled her eyes at that then turned to you and Joe. "Gina, I want you to keep an eye on your brother while we are in there." Firmly but kindly, she said. "Don't let him touch anything."
You nodded then led Joe by the hand to the kitchen where mom turned the knobs on the stove to specific numbers then hit the cancel button. The stove slid into the wall, revealing a stairwell under the floor.
"Come on, bro." Smiling, you said. "You are going to love this."
Joe followed silently down the stairwell as the stove moved back into position above them...
