Far, FAR Too Much of a Good Thing

"I wish I was way, way bigger than my stupid older brother!"

As the last syllable left his lips, the medallion glowed an ethereal golden green, the embossed ferns almost dancing as Sam's arm began to tingle. The tingling sensation continued to crawl up like a cobra coiling around his arm. Before long, his entire body felt like it was about to light up in an inferno of pure, supernatural power. Then, to his unbridled glee, Sam began to feel his clothes grow tighter against his skin, as slowly, he began to grow.

"Yes... YES!" Joey started laughing in triumph as he felt the floor sliding beneath him, the wooden boards cracking a bit as more and more weight was put upon them. Already, his feet were screaming in agony as his shoes struggled to contain them, before they finally gave up the ghost in a blast of shredded leather, his toes breathing in the sweet, free air in the aftermath. The rest of his clothes were faring similarly, as his jeans became frayed at the edges from his legs begging to be let out of their prison, and his shirt began to resemble a rag over his shoulders, but in the moment, Joey couldn't be bothered to care.

Why should he? After all, everything was finally starting to go his way!

"Finally!" Joey blissfully hollered, the look on Sam's face all too clear in his mind. "Wait till he gets a piece of this! No more 'pathetic little shrimp', no more 'tiny baby brother'! From now on, the only man in the house is gonna be m-!"

Joey's head then slammed into the plywood ceiling with a hard "THWACK", abruptly cutting off his self-indulgent rant and leaving a decent-sized hole above him. So harsh was the blow that he almost immediately fell straight on his bottom, leaving a massive dent in the hardwood floor as Sam felt the splinters pierce through his skin. Dazed, with a shower of plaster covering his wild, unkempt brown hair, along with hot, stinging tears pouring down his cheeks from the wooden daggers that were jabbing his bottom, Joey couldn't even react as the walls of his room closed in on him more and more. Eventually, he found himself trapped in a tiny, congested box, with his limbs all tangled together in a claustrophobic array.

Before long, Sam's bedroom couldn't take the continued abuse from Joey's ever-expanding body, and collapsed in on itself, sending the giant preteen free-falling to the floor below with an earth-shattering thud, along with a shower of broken chairs, drawers and desks. If that wasn't enough, the mattress had the tenacity to fall right on top of Joey's head, worsening his already splitting headache.

Despite now being in a massive amount of pain, Joey still had enough hold of his senses to panic, immediately turning to the medallion that he had been holding on to into a death grip, which had fortunately grown with him. "Wha-what's going on!?" he demanded. "I didn't ask for this!"

The medallion refused to answer his plea as his body continued expanding, the other rooms of his house cracking and heaving at the seams as gigantic, pale limbs burst through the walls. Most of the appliances, from the fridge to the tv to the AC to the lamps, were reduced to chunks of stainless steel and polished plaster as Joey continued growing without cease. Before long, most of his house was a chaotic, dilapidated ruin, full of broken walls and exposed pipes pouring water everywhere, washing away the bits and pieces of his house that were still intact. All that was left of what was once Joey's home was a hollow outer shell that was only barely keeping him contained.

"Ok, you stupid knickknack."

A few pedestrians had begun to gather around the overstuffed house, their curiosity winning out over their caution as they wondered just what was happening inside. Unfortunately, that meant that they were right in the blast radius as Joey finally exploded out of his house, sending shards of wood and steel debris flying all over the place and damaging most of the surrounding homes. He could almost pretend that he was a mighty superhero bursting out of a steel cage with ease if it weren't for the fact that that was his house he'd just destroyed!

"I worded my wish wrong. I get it. Ha ha."

It wasn't long before his rear was very quickly breaching beyond the area where his house once stood and barging into the nearby homes, crushing them underneath like they were made out of toothpicks and gum. Even though he was still disoriented, Joey managed to get himself up and plant his feeton the rapidly narrowing streets that crisscrossed his neighborhood, his toes already overtaking the fragile boundaries of the sidewalks.

"So you can stop growing me now!"

At this point, Joey was just blinding running towards somewhere, anywhere that could maybe help him, trying in vain not to step on any more homes. He knew that his dad normally worked in downtown, so in his disoriented state, he decided that his only option was to go there and ask for help. His neighborhood was very quickly dwindling to the point where entire rows of houses were being swept away by his feet, so he had absolutely no time to think of any better ideas.

Unfortunately, as he reached the center, his error quickly became all too apparent to Joey, as the wide highways rapidly proved be far too narrow to walk across safely. He was forced to shimmy in-between massive skyscrapers, trying his best not to panic as he felt the glass on both sides crack under the overwhelming pressure that they were being put under. All the while, the commotion Joey had caused had the city whipped into a full-blown panic, with people rushing out of the buildings and scurrying around in the streets like ants, all the while Joey was trying his best not to step on any of them and he just wanted to get out of here!

"SORRY, I'M SORRY, I CAN'T CONTROL THIS! JUST RUN! GET OUT OF MY WAY!"

As he shimmied between yet another set of all-too-close skyscrapers, the twin towers barely able to make it past his hips, the strain finally proved to be too much for the unfortunate structures, as they both snapped at their based and began collapsing, disappearing into the massive dust cloud that had formed below them like documents being fed into a paper shredder. At the horrific sight, adrenaline quickly took over, as Joey bent down and tried to shovel up as many of the falling bodies as he could like he was an excavator in a coal mine. Although, given how much debris there was, and far the fall must have seemed from their perspective, there was no chance that many of them had managed to survive the drop-!

Ohgod how many people were in there

Now at the peak of his desperation, Joey hastily let what he had gathered down near a large, abandoned lot nearby, forcing himself to move on and away from the city as his body continued tearing deep gashes in the sides of the surrounding skyscrapers, causing them to lean over and crash against each other in clouds of dust and debris. He could only hope to god that everyone had made it out of there, or that he'd managed to save most of them, that he hadn't just...

He squeezed his eyes shut as they began to sting, hot tears threatening to fall out once more. No, nonono, he couldn't think that! He had to focus on getting out of here before things got any worse. Otherwise, he'd have a lot more sins hanging over his head.

He breathed in and forced himself to more as far and fast as possible, ignoring whatever buildings came in his way as he focused on getting himself somewhere isolated. He focused on it even as his knees rapidly began to tower over even the tallest skyscrapers, and his toes began to get caught on multiple residential buildings. The sensation of metal and glass crunching against his feet made him want to hurl, but he knew that if he didn't keep moving, a lot more buildings would be destroyed.

He just wanted to be bigger and taller than his brother for once in his short, miserable life. Was that too much to ask!? Was this karma for being jealous of his brother, for hating how he always bossed him round!? Was this some sick joke against him, tempting him and then giving him way too much of what he always wanted like this was some kind of twisted fairy tale?!?

Well, if it was a joke, it wasn't fucking funny!

He didn't even realize after a certain point that he had made it out of the city and into the outskirts. The settlements that peppered the more rural land ended up paying the price for his mistake, as the last thing a number of disparate villages saw was a gigantic foot falling down on them from the sky, instantly being annihilated at various points along his soles.

Fortunately, once Joey saw that he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of tiny grey boxes anymore, he managed to stop himself, as his growth finally managed to slow down to a trickle. The city that had once towered over him was now more comparable to gravel on an unpaved sidewalk, not even able to reach past his soles. He hadn't even noticed before, but the clouds were now at the level of his ankles, swirling around them as though they were those fluffy balls that you sometimes saw at the ends of a jester's pant legs.

With everything happening all at once, in his rush to get out of the city, he didn't even realize one crucial detail that was only beginning to dawn on him just now:

He was completely, totally butt-naked.

With an embarrassed squeak, the flush of his cheeks shining crimson red against his pale skin, he quickly tried to cover his private parts with his hands to preserve what little dignity he had left. However, the overwhelming pushback generated by the massive amounts of air pressure against his arms threw him off-balance. It was only thanks to him planting a foot right on top of a wheat field that disaster hadn't struck.

Only one thing came to Joey's mind as he stared down with trembling eyes at his tiny world:

"...oh no."
