A creepy-looking beggar

    by: Whade Author IconMail Icon
On the porch stood the ugliest and smelliest old man Mouse had ever come across. Even including Ms. Hobbs, and her house smelled of cat piss and old people.

He grinned at her, showing his full row of eight whole teeth.

"Mornin', kiddo. 'ould yer paren's be a' home?"

"No." Mouse said, then corrected herself. "Who's asking?"

The old man smiled his creepy smile again.
"I'm an ol' friend of your daddy an' mommy, I am. Knew them 'rom skul, I am. May I come in?"

"You stink." Mouse remarked.

"Confounded brat" the stranger remarked. "Just do what I say and get o' of the way."

Mouse got scared and slammed the door shut. There was some cursing from the other side, then it all went quiet.

Mouse ran back into Dad's study. "Summer, there was a creepy old man trying to come in through the front door!"

"Mm-hmm." Summer said, not looking up. Mouse could see it was hopeless, her sister was caught up in something in her dream world again. It was up to her, Mouse Salt, to protect the house.
