Kate stopped in her tracks. She waited to see if she heard again.
It came...........but it wasn't a howl.
BOOM!
The rumbling of thunder.
Kate looked up and through the canopy of trees she could see thick black clouds gathering.
Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain on her head.
A halestone!
It suddenly became a potentially dangerous situation to be outside.
Looking around her, Kate saw a small clearing a few yards away. Moving towards it, she saw a rich green backyard with an enormous manor house.
She recognized the property instantly. It was the home of Emilia Knox, a 46 year old Welsh woman, who had recently moved to the area from abroad. Her twenty one year old daughter Kay lived with her and had just completed college in the UK. She continued to stay with her mother while she did grad school nearby.
Kate was on friendly terms with them, so when another harsh rumble of thunder came and she could feel the rain drops picking up and the sound of a few hailstones with them, she rushed through the yard to seek shelter.
By the time she reached the front door of the Knox's home, the rain suddenly came down in sheets. The poor girl was soaked to the bone and a chill passed through her as the temperature dropped with the rainfall.
Luckily there was a large overhang covering the front porch, so she was safe from the rain and the hail, which now began picking up.
Kate rang the front doorbell and waited in the safety of the front porch.
She was waiting only a few seconds when the door opened and she was greeted by.......................................
