Josh and his mother, Olivia, had drove down the interstate for several hours in their sedan, a trailer attached to the car packed with the necessary camping gear, before the climbed off onto a lesser known route.
They were heading to a camping spot, miles away from the nearest town or city. They had also no signal here, just the way Olivia wanted it....and Josh hated it.
Honestly, he couldn't understand why his mother wanted to go camping. She was a plus-sized business woman for crying out loud. She had grew up in the suburbs and lived in the city all her life.
It was weird that Olivia wanted to rough it out in the wild. Her excuse was that she wanted to get away from it all: the concrete jungle, the technology and her work.
She wanted to enjoy nature, but Josh had a feeling that it was going to be a nightmare. He hated being away from his phone, hated going outside.
The seventeen year old would rather stay cooped up in his room all day, playing video games and surfing the web.
But, on the other hand, Josh had to admit that his mother had a stressful life. She had worked hard to raise him after his father left. She had tried to get him a father-figure, dating many men, but none seemed to be good enough for her.
Though, Josh also guessed that she also wanted a man in her life too, aching for the need of love. He also expected that she was doing it for a more lustful reason, but he suppressed that thought, for it was too weird to think about.
They turned down a dirt road, one that had a sign saying, "Green Mountain nature reserve."
They searched a while for a good spot, Olivia wanting to be near the lake, and they found a clearing.
Despite Josh's dislike for the outdoors, he had to admit that it was beautiful and peaceful here, the birds singing a sweet tune.
"Let's not waste time," said Josh's mom, "We need to set up camp before it gets dark."
It proved more easily said than done, for Olivia didn't know much about camping. Josh faired a bit better, but it was due to common sense and he struggled as well.
After a few hours, the sun was setting low and the camp was finally set up.
Sitting in camp chairs in front of the fire on the clear, starry night, Olivia asked her son, "What would you pike to do tomorrow? We can go hiking or swimming in the lake, if that is allowed"
