Okay, maybe "working" was the wrong way to put it.
Maya Fey and Phoenix Wright, or "Nick", as she calls him, were out at Grilliam Shakespeare's, a fantastic burger joint in the middle of the city. Phoenix got a turkey sandwich, while Maya got one of the largest, most ridiculous-looking burgers that even she had ever seen. She finished the burger before Phoenix even finished his sandwich.
Phoenix checked his watch. It was about time to lock up the office for the night. So, he and Maya headed down to the Wright & Co. Law Offices, and locked the door. But, right as Maya started to walk back down to the ground floor, Phoenix called out to her.
"Hey, Maya? I found a package here, it's for you."
Maya walked back over to find a small cardboard box sitting next to the office door.
"Are you sure it's not for you? It's pretty boring-looking."
"Well, it has 'For Maya Fey' written on it in giant, black sharpie, so..."
"Oh. Good point." Maya said, a little embarrassed at how hard her attempt at a quip backfired. "I'll just... be taking this." Maya picked up the box. The two of them stood there in silence, Phoenix starting to smile at her embarrassment.
"See you tomorrow!" Maya blurted out, before leaving the building and going home. At a faster-than-normal walking speed.
Maya arrived at home, and set the box down on the table, now itching to see what was inside. Inside she found a remote and an instruction booklet.
The remote was a body-switching remote, which allowed the user 4 different body-switching effects. Aware swap, the traditional kind, unaware, which switches bodies but leaves everyone but the user completely unaware that any change even happened, possession, which lets you take someone's body, leaving a copy of you in your place, and shapeshift, which makes your body look exactly like someone else's.
(Woah!) Maya thought. (Think of all the cool stuff I can do with this!)
Maybe she could possess Nick, and then use his body to give herself his wallet! Or maybe, she could shapeshift into Nick, go to his bank as him, and take all of his money out! Or maybe, she could do something that didn't have anything to do with taking Nick's money! The possibilities were endless!
Sometimes Maya forgets that it's a miracle Phoenix can even afford to keep his house with how little work he gets.
The next morning, Maya headed back to the office, remote in tow. She knocked on the door, Phoenix opened it, he let her in, she asked if he had any new cases, he said no, as usual, and then they kicked their feet up and did nothing for an hour or so.
"Hey, I almost forgot to ask", said Phoenix, after a particularly boring episode of The Nickel Samurai came to its conclusion. "What was that box you got last night? Anything important?"
Maya could tell Nick about the remote, but then she wouldn't be able to mess with him, since he would know what was up instantly. At the same time, if Nick went along with it, having a partner in crime to mess with people or something could be awesome, too. But she could always tell him later. So, what does she do?
