Ema crouched down to ground level. This was unbelievable. Impossible. Nothing out there could physically shrink a human being. It defied the laws of physics in more ways than she cared to count.
Yet before her eyes, standing nervously on the dusty floor, was her friend Apollo, barely two inches high.
"H-hey, watch the grip-!" Apollo was saying a minute later, as Ema picked him up from the floor, carefully pinching him between her fingers.
"Try moving around less." she replied. Once she felt that her grip was secure, having brought her other hand up to brace him in place, she carried Apollo out of the dark storeroom and into the better-lit hall outside.
None of the other officers on the scene were here. She'd left them back at the crime scene itself, accompanying Apollo for this detour. What was she going to do? On top of a crime scene to investigate, she now had a two-inch defence attorney to be worried about.
Could she bring him to his office? Mr. Wright would be as shocked as anyone, but he'd be able to keep Apollo safe.
She might've been a detective, but Ema was a scientist at heart. Apollo was a scientific impossibility in his shrunken state, and even in the face of her other concerns, Ema felt a strong desire to perform some tests on him. Already her mind was filling with ideas.
It occurred to her that Apollo had been trying to say something for a few moments now.
"What...?" she asked, glancing down at him in her palms.
"What's happening?" he repeated.
"Uhh..." Ema mumbled, rethinking her options.
