This choice: "You'll have to stay in my bag for a bit. I've got work to do." • Go Back... "Uhh... define 'a bit', first."
Ema rolled her eyes.
"You remember why I'm here, right?" she asked him. "Police detective, and all?"
"W-well, yeah, but..."
"So you're gonna have to wait a bit. I can try and wrap up the investigation sooner, rather than later, but you'll have to be patient." Ema went on. "Think you can handle that, tiny?"
Apollo looked very nervous, which was understandable. Ema didn't doubt that she'd be a nervous wreck, too, if she'd been the one to shrink to about two inches in height. At least Apollo wasn't hurt.
"... OK." he said. "I know I can trust you."
Ema smiled. Hearing something like that was always nice. She knew she could still be a bit of a grump, and she was glad to know that Apollo didn't hold it against her.
"Great. I'll try and make you comfortable in there. Don't break anything."
Rummaging through her bag with one hand, Ema cleared a space for Apollo. Anything heavy needed to be moved to another pouch or pocket. He was small enough that she worried he'd be injured easily.
"Sorry." she said after a few seconds. "You've gotta be really scared."
"... Yeah." Apollo said. He was seated in her other palm by now. "I'm just glad you were in there with me when... this happened."
"Tell me about it..." Ema agreed. "I can see it now -- you, scrambling around on the floor... it would've been pretty hard to get yourself any help like that."
Apollo made a noise, but didn't say anything back.
"OK, there." Ema said with a nod. "You should be all set."
Lowering her tiny friend toward her shoulder bag, she first showed him where he'd be staying.
"That look good to you?" she asked. "I mean, it's not really negotiable, but I thought I'd ask."
Apollo sighed. "It's a tiny pocket on a bag, Ema. I think 'good' is probably the best we can hope for."
"No argument there." Ema replied. "Now, hop in."
She tilted her palm, and Apollo carefully lowered himself from her fingertips to slip into the pouch. She checked him over before closing the pouch back up, snapping its button into place.
"OK. I'll try and make this fast. Meantime, you try and think of how the hell we're going to explain this to Mr. Wright, Athena, or Trucy."
Inside the pouch, Apollo was suddenly even more nervous. In all this panic and confusion, he hadn't even thought about his other friends. He was still in the middle of a case, too...
(We'd better get me back to normal soon. Athena's not gonna like having to take the case by herself.)  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
