This choice: Mom enters, thinks you are ill. • Go Back... You stopped cold, seeing mom looking at you in concern. "John, I have never seen you toss a sandwich without taking at least one bite." Worried, she said. "Are you feeling well?"
"I'm not sure, mom." Honestly, you replied. "I think I may be seeing things."
Mom's concern grew. "What sort of things?" Softly, she asked.
You told mom what had happened in the dinning room or what you thought had happened. Mom listened then slowly shook her head. "I'm afraid you might be coming down with something serious." Wincing, she said. She then turned serious. "Get yourself straight into bed, young man. I will call Dr Thompson and have her take a look at you."
Albeit reluctantly, you walked up the stairs to your bedroom and crawled into bed. It was not until after you were lying down when you really started to feel sick. You were shaking with the chills and a bad headache struck soon after along with a strong sense of nausea. Later, Dr Katie Thompson arrived and had a short conversation with mom. She soon entered your room and began her examination.
"I can't understand why or how you get hit with the flu so fast and so hard, John." After finishing, she said. "However, it does explain your hallucinations."
"Is there anything you can do for me, doc?" Weakly, you asked. "These colds are a pain in the a..."
"Language, young man." Grinning, Katie said. "I will prescribe you some medication, your mother can pick it up later today."
She then left the room for you to rest. Unknown to you, Katie had a much different conversation with mom. You could hear them talk but it confused you more.
"The barrier that is keeping John... 'himself' is beginning to fall apart." Softly, Katie said. "These sudden cases of the flu are a direct warning to this happening." She sighed. "I'd say he has less than a month before 'she' blossoms."
"Oh dear." Worried, mom whispered. "At least we know ahead of time."
"Who do you think left the book out for him to find?" Concerned, Katie asked.
Mom sighed. "That's what really worries me, Kate." Quietly, she said. "I don't think anyone left it out, I think he unwittingly summoned it."
