Steven paused in the middle of his sentence, as if his breath defeated him. He hung his head low, thinking hard of the effect his words would have on Laura who was already shaken. After seconds of silence which seemed years to Laura, he looked at her and said,
“Darkness,” he paused yet again, recollecting the terrible conversation he had overheard, ”Pitch black darkness,” he muttered yet again with those shaking, parched lips.
Laura stood there looking at him without batting any eyelid. Steven’s word stunned him for sure but it was his eyes which made her shudder. The cold, glazed look floated in his eyes despite his best efforts to keep it away. The battle within his mind was fought out in the battle ground of his eyes. Laura wanted to confirm her sickening feeling on this matter but instead kept quiet about it. After all, Steve’s eyes had same glazed look which he once had when he told her about that army of the Silvery warriors from the Maroon valley. The rumor was it that they kept a count of the beheaded enemies. Quite an achievement considering that the count was veering towards seventy thousand.
She felt a sensation creep up her spine.
She went towards Steven and gripped his hand tightly.
