The Darkness always won. Once it was in the victim's eye there was no escape. Before they were even aware, Steven and Laura were taken. They were the newest recruits to the Silvery Army.
It was previously thought that the Silvery Army were recruited from the dead. The long gone. No-one from beyond the Maroon Valley knew anything about the Darkness.
Laura had watched as Steven was overcome. She begged him to look at her, to speak, to just hold her hand, but as his eyes turned black - he was gone. Taken by the Silvers. She knew, of course, from that moment, the same was going to happen to her. It was that realisation that she had no escape. Steven had looked deep into her eyes as his darkened over.
Laura had but one minute of her life, as she knew it, left. One minute to watch the sky slowly turn grey. One minute to watch the leaves falling from the trees. One minute to stare, panicked, at Steven and see her fate. One minute to lose her best friend, lose everything.
The Darkness engulfed both Laura and Steven as they became the newest recruits to the Silvers. The Darkness met them before the Silvery Army arrived as the Darkness has a job to do. Its job is to destroy and train. With the first of its goals mightily achieved - the dark cloud of evil lead the innocent two deep into Maroon Valley.
The Maroon Valley was deserted but for the Silvery Army. They were once just a few but over thousands of years the Silver beasts fill the Valley. They live in troop families spread far and wide. All that drives them is the Darkness. When it descends, the Army know they are off to recruit...or off to war.
Those who were Steven and Laura trekked somewhat aimlessly back to camp as part of their deathly family. They looked through opaque eyes, blackened by the Satanic Darkness. Their soul long departed; their bodies fuelled only by a void. A void that has no heart, no conscience and no morals. It is just as well this happens because Steven and Laura would be broken-hearted if they knew what was ahead...
