On a rather hot, sunny day, you exit the front doors of the academy you've been attending for a few years; The P&S (Pokémon & Science) Academy. A private school your parents took you to everyday aside the holidays. You were well educated in the anatomy of Pokémon and the world in which both humans and Pokémon share. Granted, you didn't get to leave school like a lot of the trainers, but at the end, it was well paid off. Besides, within a couple short weeks, you'll be just as free.
It was only May, but summer sure rolled around rather quickly. You grab your shades that dangled on your chest pocket and put them on. Finally, you could see without squinting your eyes. As you did so, you could see your friend, Caleb, walking further ahead of you.
"Caleb, wait up!" You shouted as you started running toward him. With his headphones on, he was lost in a musical world and oblivious to his surroundings. Once you caught up to him, however, he was knocked out of his hypnotic-state. "Didn't you hear me?"
"Sorry." Caleb said as his placed his headphones around his neck. His bubble tended to be harder to pop than most. He wasn't always like that though. Use to be outgoing once before, but then- "Are you headed to the lab?"
"Yep." You reply as you bring your mind back to focus. "Helping out with some evolution research that Professor Elm's been looking into. Can you believe that there's a thing called Mega Evolution?"
"Didn't Professor Sycamore already discover that?"
"Well, you know how his curiosity gets the better of him. Besides, ever since Professor Sycamore was revealed to be involved with Team Flare, it's possible that he only looked into what benefited the team rather than what it can really do."
You notice Caleb smile slightly at the thought. You two come across a four-way intersection that's in between you and the lab. "Guess this is where we split." Your best friend said.
"You should volunteer at the lab. It's a lot of fun, believe it or not." You said. Seeing that you didn't sway Caleb whatsoever, you place a hand on his shoulder. "It'll get your mind off of things."
Caleb stares at you for a moment. What could you do to ease the pain that you could clearly see in his eyes?.. Before contemplating much longer, Caleb turns around as he makes his way home.
You consider going with Caleb. With you just volunteering at the lab, it wouldn't hurt to just not show up. Your friend does need help lightening up. Then again, you don't want to push him too far to where he'll never speak to you again.
