I couldn't trust anyone else not to mis-use...

You contemplate your response for a moment. There was no single reason per se, but there was a hierarchy of concerns. You turn in her palm to look past her hill like knee towards the glade you’d set up in those months ago. The peacefulness and beauty reminds you of your purpose.

Still staring off you reply “I truly did come out here to find solutions to humanity and the world’s ills. And yes, I did it for myself as well. A true adventure, the likes we can only fantasize about in our day to day mundanity. But as to why I came HERE. Other than a stupid misstep with my initial choice early on that is, was because the implications of this technology are SO great.”

You break for a moment and turn back to Tara’s face. She’s locked on, fully enraptured. You grin for a moment and return to your speech. “You see, this tech has the ability to do great good, but terrible evil as well. I had to be certain of its benefits before I even considered involving anyone else. No colleagues, no friends...not even family could be fully trusted.” Ok, you’re laying it on a little thick now, but the clear sympathy on Tara’s face meant it had worked. "It’s not just accidents or mistakes that put people at risk if shrunk. I worry more about certain human hearts. Imagine a person with no morals or sick desires. With this tech they could get away with horrible injustices...I guess for me people are hard to trust.”

She catches you off guard with her next question. “Then why do you trust me?” “Because I lucked out. Because in the brief span we’ve known each other you’ve not only shown that you are a person curious and concerned for the world, but a gentle soul.” Her wide smile is gratifying but you continue. “You had every opportunity to hunt for me like a madwoman after our first meeting, but you didn’t. You had complete control over me after Trevorina got me, but you healed me and respected my wishes. You had all the power, but you didn’t abuse it. Today you've put up with my simple stories and musings, and despite discovering something that changes everything, you seem more concerned for me than exploiting it for yourself. You are a good person Tara, so I trust you.”

A little sniffle erupts as her nostril flares and you notice a sheen of a tear in her right eye. “Thanks.” She sputters a bit and turns her head. “That’s...uh...great to hear, really. How..how about we enjoy the view for a few more minutes, okay?”

You smile that your simple words did so much, and turn back towards the forest and glade, and plop onto your rear in her palm. She takes a moment to recover, but soon is staring off as well. Nonetheless your sixth sense indicates she’s taking glimpses of you. After 10 minutes you catch yourself nearly falling asleep in her palm. “That was great, but hey I got a few things to tend to, and you’re gonna fail that paper of yours if you don’t get going.” You look over your shoulder to find...
