*DING-DONG*
"I'll get it, since it seems like I'm the only one doing anything around here anyways." said Claire Perkins. She was talking to her three children, Brad, Brittney, and Bella. Brad, 19, and Brittney, 18, were back from college for winter break, while Bella was just 15. They all had brown hair and eyes, a trait they got from their mother. Her husband, Brad Sr. was away on a business trip, one that he'd return from in nine days.
Claire opened the door, but arrived to see a black van drive off into the night, quickly leaving suburbia. She looked down at the doorstep, and saw a six-pack of what looked to be an energy drink. Claire carefully picked it up, and looked at one of the cans, which was half-blue, half-pink.
"Xpect? Drink more, Xpect more? Product of Yaral Industries? What is this?" she asked her kids, who veered their heads from staring at the TV. "Oh, right! That's a new energy drink that's been buzzing online." said Brad, approaching his mother, and more importantly, the drinks. "It's supposed to be the best energy drink on the market right now. So Brad and I thought we should try it." said Brittney. The children began to pester Claire so they could drink it.
"Absolutely not! I don't know anything about this drink!" Claire yelled. "Wait, Brittney and I used out own good money for this, at least try it, and then let us know if we could drink it?" Brad asked, putting on a smile. "Alright. IF I think it's okay for you to drink, then you guys can have it, but ONLY ONE a day, okay? Except for you, Bella, you can't touch them.''
"What? Why?" Bella asked, pouting. "Because you didn't pay for them. Any you're underage." Claire responded.
Claire pulled one of the cans from the six-pack and opened it. She slowly took a few sips of Xpect, and finished it a minute later. "It tastes alright, I guess." she said. A warm, bubbling feeling was felt withing Claire's stomach, and spread out through her whole body. This feeling was followed by sudden nausea, and she was lucky to make it to the bathroom in time. After a few minutes of emptying her stomach, she returned to the living room.
"You alright, Mom?" Brittney asked. "No, I think it was those energy drinks. Made me sick. I think I'm gonna go to bed," Claire said, "and don't touch those drinks." The kids obliged.
In her bedroom, Claire changed into pajamas, and looked into the mirror. In her mid-40s, age was starting to show, and the pale face that the illness added didn't help. With a sigh, her head hit the pillow, and immediately fell asleep.
