The hours passed as Claire drifted off to sleep, a hand resting lightly on her stomach. She slept soundly, deeply. So deep in fact, she failed to hear her two older children, Brad and Brittany sneaking out of their rooms downstairs.
"Are we really doing this?" Brittany asked, semi-annoyed. "Britt, we're not little kids anymore. We ordered those drinks fair and square, with our own money. We can do with them what we like" Brad said, making his way into the kitchen.
"We're in college now. We can stay out late, have anonymous sex, drink until we pass out, be late to class, etc, etc. You know, the whole "college phase?" I mean, she act's like we've never had energy drinks before. I mean, come on. " Brad says, grabbing one of the blue-and-pink cans and popping the top with a loud POP.
"Still, she told us not to.." Brittany said, her hand hovering over one of the cans of the mysterious energy drink.
"Mom told us no to do alot of stuff. She's overprotective to a fault. Remember when she said you couldn't be a cheerleader? Or how about when you couldn't to go Junior Prom because" Someone would spike the punch and something bad will happen"." Brad says, hovering the drink closer to his mouth.
"True. I mean, she does want what's best for us.." Brittany says, popping the top. "But we are adults" She finished.
"That's right." Brad says, putting the can to his lips.
"Besides.. What's the worst that can happen?" Brad says, guzzling down the energy drink. "Oh man, that's bitter." He says, smacking his lips.
Brittany followed next, downing her can not as fast as her brother, but faster still.
"Wow, that IS bitter." She said. "Where did you get this stuff?"
"Some weird joke novelty website. Magic coins, strange amulets, energy drinks, all sorts of weirdo stuff" Brad says, popping the top of another can and drinking it down. "You ordered energy drinks from a novellty website?" Brittany asked, placing a hand on her stomach, feeling a little queazy.
"Yeah, just thought it would be plain energy drink in a cool can, I collect those. But this was sadly disappointing. " Brad finished his second can, putting it down, as his stomach let out a low gurgle.
"Brad, do you feel weird?" Brittany asked. "Not really. My stomach feels a bit warm, but that's because we're drinking this crap at room temperature. " Brad says, putting the rest of the Xpect energy drink cans in the fridge.
"I feel like I'm going to throw up!" Brittany said, covering her mouth with her hand and running off towards the bathroom.
"Pfft, some peopel don't know how to hold their energy drinks. I feel fantastic!" Brad said, heading back off to his room, unaware of the changes that we're going on throughout the house's occupants.
