"Chidori!"
Lightning danced in the hands of a young man. He leaped nimbly through the branches overhead, the electricity between his fingers faintly singeing the nearby foliage.
A fully grown, female Tyrannosaurus rex bellowed furiously, snapping her massive head from side to side as she attempted to pin down the nimble, elusive prey. And her mate, less in stature than her, more gracile and nimble, growled and grunted, tramping circles through the undergrowth in pursuit of others.
"Damn! Damn! Damn!" swore Suigetsu Hozuki frantically, panting and heavily sweating. "I'm almost out of juice... Isn't there any kind of lagoon, or stream around here?"
Weakly, he swung the fragmented executioner blade behind him, futilely attempting to fend off the great, thundering beast.
A flash of metal flew through the air, embedding itself in the calf of the male tyrannosaur. It was a kunai, and a piece of paper was wrapped around the handle...
"Take that, you big bastard!" snapped the redheaded Karin, from where she had concealed herself in the bushes.
Suigetsu's eyes widened when he heard the unmistakable hissing of an explosive note. "Karin you bitch!" he cursed. Panicking, he dove for cover behind a tree.
A second later, the wet earth beneath the tyrannosaur's feet was kicked up in a bloody plume of gore.
The scream of the beast was unworldly as it tumbled, now bereft of a leg. Suigetsu and Karin clapped their hands over the ears at the sheer volume of it. It was ear-piercing, deep and shrill at different levels, a noise they could never have before fathomed coming from a living creature.
The ground shook beneath their feet. Smaller trees were crushed, boughs snapping beneath several tons of late Cretaceous theropod.
Suigetsu, peering out from behind his tree saw the male tyrannosaur laying, stunned, on the ground.
"Fuck..." he muttered. "That was close." He spun around to face his redhead teammate. "Hey! How about you give some warning next time you're about to do something like that, Karin!?"
The bespectacled sensor snorted. "Piss off, Suigetsu."
The sound of a bestial, frenzied cry ripping through the jungle then reminded the two that they were not alone.
