A mountain lies between Pewter City and Cerulean City in the Kanto region; Mt. Moon. Mt. Moon is far too steep to climb so the only way is through the mountain itself. Inside is a maze of caverns and tunnels filled with pokemon--mostly Zubat and Geodude or any number of rock-type pokemon. The mountain is also home to wild clefairy that would evolve into clefable when exposed to a Moon Stone. The mountain is known for its Moon Stones hence the name Mt. Moon. The mountain has been hit by countless meteorites over the years--those meteorites becoming Moon Stones. It is also home to pokemon fossils.
It's very easy to get lost in the tunnels of Mt. Moon. For someone like Misty--who grew up in Cerulean City--Mt. Moon is easy to navigate through. She had been visiting Mt. Moon ever since she was little. She felt some strange connection to Mt. Moon as if the mountain had been her home long ago. But that was sheer none sense; Misty had always lived in Cerulean and yet she couldn't shake this feeling that Mt. Moon had been her home once upon a time.
Misty was going through the tunnels of Mt. Moon now to meet up with Ash and Brock in Pewter City. Ash had come home to the Kanto region from one of the far-off regions he went off to every year or so. This time he was coming back from some place called Unova...which was far from Kanto. Each time that Ash came back home he would visit his friends Brock and Misty. Misty had wanted Ash to stay in Kanto but Ash was always looking for a new region to explore. The last time she had talked to Ash he had been going on about some region called Kalos or something like that. Before Ash went to Kalos, he decided to go back to Kanto for the spring and summer--perhaps for the rest of the year. That suited Misty just fine. Misty had missed Ash and she was eager to meet up with him again.
"Geodude!" came a sudden cry from the ground. Misty had tripped on a rock that turned out to be a Geodude. Misty tried to save herself from falling over to the hard rock floor of the cave but in vain. Misty hit the ground hard. Geodude huffed off to parts unknown. Misty grumbled as she got herself up from the ground. When she did so she noticed something shiny on the floor just ahead of where she had fallen. Misty took a closer look. The object was clearly a gem that was slightly smaller than a Moon Stone...which she knew because there was a Moon Stone right beside the gem. The gem was green in color...did that mean it was an emerald? Misty picked up the gem.
"This is pretty..." said Misty examining the gem more closely. Mistress...
The voice was faint and came from inside her head!
"Hello?" asked Misty aloud.
There was no reply.
"Did you just talk?" asked Misty nervously looking at the gem.
No reply.
"Must have been my imagination" muttered Misty, pocketing the gem in her jean shorts and continued on her way to meet up with her two friends.
