You wake up the next morning. You put some water through your hair and tie it back like you've done it a million times. You look down on your Father, who's just stirring. You quietly sneak down the ladder put some Kava over the fire and eat some boiled oats.
Your Dad comes down the ladder a few minutes later, and takes one look at you, He stops.
"What?" you ask as you hand him a cup of Kava. He takes it but his hand is shaking.
"Jack?" he asks.
"Yeah," you say.
"You're a girl."
You take a second and look down at yourself. Of course you're a girl. The witch turned you into a girl last night, and you hardly noticed. Slowly it dawns on you that yeah, you were a boy last night and it starts to dawn on you that as far as your Father's concerned this is not normal.
"Ohhhhhh, the witch turned me into a girl last night so I could help bathe her," you say as if it explains everything. To you, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
"Sh---sh--sh she," your father looks like he's having problems getting words out.
You step forward to help him sit down and he steps back, frightened.
"She turned you into a girl."
"Yeah," you shrug.
"Jack?"
"Yeah," you repeat slowly.
"This can't be happening," he says, clearly agitated. "You can't be a girl."
Intellectually, you get where your Father is coming from. At the same time, you think really hard. You were male yesterday yet you have a hard time thinking of yourself..... as male. It feels like you've always been female. Your expectations, marriage, kids. You realize you know how take care of infants and toddlers, and you sew and flirt with boys. It's like a hundred skills you take for granted and know you can do. But you have no memory of learning them.
"Wow."
"Wow is right," Your father says at last. "We need to go and speak with her right now."
"Are you crazy?" you say.
You and your father debate back and forth. That night---
